Two games tonight

Concord at Merrillville: Concord scoring 47 points last week to win the regional was an eye-opener, but Merrillville has athletes all over the field. No. 5 vs. No. 6. This should be an excellent game. Can Merrillville finally break through and get to Lucas Oil, or will Concord's high-powered offense get the Minutemen back to Indy for the first time in 19 years?

Bloomington South at New Palestine: Looks like rain is in the forecast for much of the game tonight. How will that affect two teams with outstanding QBs - NP's Jacob Davis and BHSS's Duncan Combs? Both teams have powerful running attacks and a Div. I receiver. This game will be won/lost in the trenches, and that's where NP has been very good during the Kyle Ralph era, but South's lines are also very big. Both teams are no stranger to this round - it's the third straight semistate for each. NP is seeking to go downtown for the 6th time in 12 years. South is trying to get there for the first time since 1998.

Not surprised that Merrillville took care of business last night. They have a passionate fan base, it's nice to see them get down to Lucas Oil to support their program. I think this team can give New Pal some fits. Underdog for sure, but this game might be closer than some think.

Started to think the same thing last night as Merrillville looked pretty impressive.

This is no dig towards you. In some aspects I would say Noblesville's previous coaches offensive philosophy was outdated and mundane to the parents not fully the competition faced (the results don't lie for sure). Noblesville was very competitive  in 2023 except for 1 game against Westfield. When you look at the results they had many one score ball games. They were not getting the wins yet but were competitive, they did struggle if they got behind by more than 1 score because they couldn't control the clock. I will say Coach Sharpe is a stand up guy, and he was pretty much ran off by the parents. It has been a rough start for Coach Herbert and things certainly can change, but right now it looks like a careful what you wish for. I get it in this day and age many want the flashy offense, but ball control was working for the Millers.

As just a fan, I hated when Westfield had to play Noblesville during those years. I remember one game where Noblesville had the ball for something like but 6-7 minutes of the first half. Westfield eventually put up a couple of scores, forcing Noblesville to actually throw some passes, but that offense was very tough to defend.

Agree. Last year was Brownsburg's first state title since winning back to back (3A then 4A) in 1984-1985.

Westfield is on the cusp of this. A 5A title and one 5A runner up, then three 6A runners up in the last 12 years. If they could have won that second Center Grove and last year's Brownsburg game, almost pulling both out at the end, then they would be in the conversation for sure.

Now their 6th championship game in the past 12 years.
