Why is it that the ND and SEC crowd have such a hard time grasping on-field results? There were about 2 or 3 SEC fanbases who swore up and down that their 9-3 teams would have been national champions had only the been included in the field.

They're all delusional.

Well, since NIL has been introduced, the playing field has been evened out and the SEC has zero national titles. Matter of fact, the SEC hasn’t even gotten to the championship game. As far as the Irish go, never have seen so much hype around a program that produces nothing year after year. Last title in 1991 I think so 34 years ago. Top 10 recruiting class every year, easy schedule, zero results. Aligns themselves with the worst Power 4 conference so they get 5 easy wins a year along with Purdue, Navy, Northern Illinois, oops they lost that game at home…. Facts!!!

Why is it useless? Just because my opinion doesn’t agree with your opinion? Again, who did the Irish beat? Answer that question honestly and compare that to everyone else’s resume. If you are hanging your hat on USC and Navy as your best wins then you have already lost. If you had beaten A&M or Miami then the Irish are in the CFP easily and there would be no argument about it, but they didn’t.

Because you have a bias against ND that you’ve expressed in prior posts.

It’s how they’ve dismantled everyone in their path since making adjustments after week two. Vegas has them at #4. They must be decent, right. I don’t know about you, but I have a losing record versus Vegas. I’ll just take their word for it.

Like I said, pure arrogance.

You’re knowledgeable too. Which is why deep down you know ND can beat anyone. You’re in denial because you don’t like them.

At least you give them their due credit in 1991.

Lastly, I rarely have sympathy for teams that lose 3 games but are you going to look 9-3 Texas (who has wins over Vandy and A&M) in the eye and tell them that they are not worthy because they challenged themselves in the non-conference traveling to Ohio State, instead of scheduling UTEP?

I hear ya....some anyhow.

Don't lose to Florida (dismal season) by 8 points and don't get blown out by Georgia.  The wins over Vandy (barely) and A&M were at home.  The Longhorns had to go to OT to get wins against Kentucky and Miss State.  (not impressive at all)

BTW, UT did play UTEP at home....only won 27-10.  They also played San Jose State and Sam Houston. (both at home)

Compare ND's losses to any team in the field with two losses. How do they stack up? That being said, ND should EASILY be the highest ranked two loss team. Couple that with blowing out everyone else on their schedule, you're left with the #2 team in the country according to Sagarin. I'll forever consider this year's champion as illegitimate if they don't go through the Irish in the process. No one can deny it the way Notre Dame is playing. Can't say the same for Alabama or Miami.

I just saw this....wow

Now that will keep a FBS college football championship coach awake at nights......😆

Their schedule is plain bad. Look at their wins, just bad. No disputing any of that. Best road win, Pittsburgh. You do realize the Irish have zero wins over anyone in consideration for the CFP, right? Their two opportunities they failed. Of course, you can continue to evade and respond to their schedule or the lack of quality wins. You learned from Temp well, young Jedi…

Nah, just been busy.  I am actually fine if they make it but will not shed any tears if they don't.

Now, if they do and Miami DOESN'T?  That's a huge problem.

Was it a huge problem when ND got stiffed in 1993?

No clue.  I was 11.

Notre Dame and Florida State finished with one loss. Notre Dame wins convincingly in the head to head matchup. Florida State wins the title. Something tells me you knew this.

Side note: Old enough to be a “grandpa.”

ND

BYU

MIAMI

1 has a reach farther than the other 2 and has nothing to do with what happens inside the white lines

Chris Fowler attempted to carry ESPN water today on this.....almost kept a straight face didn't have to look away from camera....almost.......

To be honest, I’m really tired of the endless jibber jabber about who should or shouldn’t be in, and why or why not. It’s exhausting. And however it shakes out, there’s bound to be controversy, and we’ll have to listen to it all over again. And do you think it will be any different when they go to 16? No. Something radical has to be done. And I’ve got the solution. The NCAA’s FBS needs to go to an all-in tournament model.

There are 136 schools in FBS. With 16 first round byes, it would take 8 rounds for a single-elimination tournament. There would be an 8 week regular season, which would mean absolutely nothing in terms of the postseason. Then the tournament would start. And to add to the drama, the byes and matchups would be determined by random drawing, say, using ping pong balls.

The great thing is we know this would work. Indiana is living proof.

I really don’t understand why this hasn’t gotten some traction on the GID. It’s the only fair way, right?

There was a donor at Michigan State that gave $400 million dollars with $290 million earmarked for the athletic program. Just in time for a new coach, Pat Fitzgerald, to try and save the day. Look, any school that wants to compete at the top level is going to need to spend $25-$30 million dollars each year in football. That is the new normal, until it rises to about $50 million a year in 3-5 years.

ESPN is in bed with the SEC. What’s really bad is ESPN is the driver of the CFP. No conflict of interest here…

Watching the B1G Pregame, and all 4 guys on set all say Bama is out and SHOULD be out, including Mark Ingraham.

They are all also saying Notre Dame and Miami are in.

I'm not sure the 'Bama would not make the playoff with 4 or 5 losses.  Same for tOSU.  The 12 best teams, whether conference champions are not, should be chosen to compete for the championship.  This is going to end up with the MAC champion, like basketball, gets an automatic bid.

At this point, doesn't anyone really wanna see Bama in the playoffs losing by 21 points to someone? I personally would like to see Miami have a shot. Of course Notre Dame, which is a no brainer as they might be this year's champion.

What is a bit comical and disingenuous to me is the talk around conference championship games. One year, the talk is, well this team did not play in a conference championship game and should not be rewarded for that. This year we are hearing teams that lose a conference championship should not be punished for playing in that game. Should the conference championship games matter? Absolutely, every game should be taken into consideration. A friend was trying to stir the pot with me last night about the Irish not playing in a conference championship game. I said you know who else is not playing in a conference championship game? Oregon, Miami, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma.
If the goal is to get the best 12 in, the Irish belong. But so does Miami. I will even say that those two are better than at least 3 teams in the 5-8 spots in the rankings.
If those two get in, I am fine saying that Alabama is one of the best 12. Winning at Georgia really is a BFD. But damn, that FSU loss is there too.
No question though is whoever the G5 team(s) is/are, no I do not think they are among the best 12 in the country.
