The realignment meeting is supposed to happen next Thursday, so you'd think they'd release the enrollment numbers before then...

"The realignment committee will meet on Thursday, March 5 to place schools in their respective sectionals in the three, four and six class sports. Those recommendations will then be presented the Executive Committee for a vote at its May 5 meeting."

From IHSAA Executive Meeting Minutes 1/15/26

Correct:  Years past;   Enrollments 1st:   weeks later sectionals.

I did not pay attention to all the teams moving up potentially and missed valpo. So, my statement is just nonsense into the wind. Sorry about that.

I hate to see Merrillville and Valpo up in 6A. Two very good programs that don't have a realistic chance to win that class. Maybe a chance for Merrillville, but it's less than 10%.

5A North is embarrassingly watered down, especially if North Side drops to 4A. That really just leaves Snider and Warsaw, neither of which were very good last year. Concord?

Don't Sleep on Lafayette Jeff, they will be clear favorites imo to punch ticket in 5a north.

Forgot about Jeff. I'd say they are the frontrunner at this point. Would be good to see them play for a state title. I think it's been awhile for them?

Fact check..............unless I'm hallucinating. Jeff is 0-8 at the region level? Never even a semi-state appearance? That seems hard to believe for a stout program like theirs.

yea that 6a Regional loss to Carroll was a killer, they were up and I want to say were right at the 1 or 2 yard line and maybe had a turnover that let Carroll sneak a way with the W

I mean in 2017, they beat Westfield but lost to Carmel

They have won both sectionals the years they were in 5a, which is the past 2 years, but yes, getting over that Regional hump is next on their agenda I am sure

I thought semi-state was unkind to Merrillville. This takes the cake.

I remember the Carroll/Jeff game. Carroll had a lucky bounce go their way toward the end of the game.

I would love to see Jeff play on Thanksgiving weekend, too.

But I think you're biased because those RCHS coaching ties run deep! 🙂

In what world does North Side dropping down to 4A change anything for 5A North? Losing Merrillville and Valpo hurts for sure, but there is no loss in good teams losing North Side. I'm willing to bet they won't get out of their sectional in 4A.

Without Merrillville and Valpo, I would say there's only 4 real contenders for 4A North now (Warsaw, Lafayette Jeff, Snider, and Concord). So in that case, yes it would be more watered down.

Every year we get told how great North Side is. Yes, they have talented teams. However, they don’t execute. Biggest busts every year. I don’t want to hear about them or see them ranked until they actually do something.

When North Side gets punched, they punch back. They're not a pushover. Ask Concord last year. Ask Snider in 2022. I've long maintained that North Side was one of the best four teams in 5A that season. The northern bracket of 5A is limited to just a few good programs, so losing a formidable team like North Side hurts overall.

Seems like we are going to keep seeing the same faces in regionals. Some combination of these teams making regionals this year in 6A North.

Adding Merrillville and Valpo while make sectional 1 tougher, I think CP is the team to beat, CP has not lost to Merrillville since 2021.

Sectional 1 - CP

Sectional 2 - Carroll or Penn - I left Penn in this consideration because their offense is going to be better than last year.

Sectional 3 - Carmel or Westfield - under Wright, Carmel will win a state title, it is just a matter of time.

Sectional 4 - HSE or Fishers - This sectional will always come down to these two, it will take a generational Noblesville or Homestead team to walk away with this sectional crown.

haven't heard anything really:    Perhaps, they are changing the roll out and will just roll out the classifications with new sectionals all in same roll out??   Doesn't seem likely .... but yea a bit later than normal years

All good here:  I trust our members here who have sliced and diced to pretty good accuracy it seems.

Does this enrollment release usually coincide with Wrestling and GBB State Finals?  That could be a reason for the delay

I believe 2 years ago the enrolments came out in March (about this time 2 years ago) and Sectional assignments came out in May.

From memory the same:   It should have been finalized in the end of month Executive session held in FEB, then roll it out a week or so later.

Funny we talked about this:

Went to IHSAA just now:

Nothing in there on classifications

Based on the numbers provided so far and assuming there won't be any changes when the IHSAA officially releases them(not counting on it), here's an idea of every class and the possible sectionals for each team based off of what I think will happen. I will admit I am most interested in 2A, so didn't put as much thought into the other 5 classes but I tried my best, enjoy.

Please note. My last post was a joke. I know not one of us can do a damn thing about it.  And it’s the off season. I’m full of P and vinegar I guess today.
