Irishman Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I kept seeing posts about IU swimmers, so I looked it up. IU has 12 people on the Olympic Swimming and Diving teams. That is impressive. They are also racking up quite a few medals. https://www.idsnews.com/article/2021/06/iu-athletes-2021-olympics-tokyo-indiana 1 Quote

There is that, along with the covid restrictions of no spectators. Make the competition seem kind of dead. Quote

Irishman Posted July 31, 2021 Author Posted July 31, 2021 Still love seeing young people on this stage in sports that RARELY gets any attention, if any. 1 Quote

Or, there’s another way of looking at it. What makes America different - and great - is on display. The right of our citizens to love their country, but hate the injustices that occur in it. The right to show the very best of American democracy: freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom from political oppression, the right to dissent. We should revel in it, even if we don’t agree. 1 2 1 1 Quote

But even you have to admit, doing so while REPRESENTING the very country you are stating your hatred for with “USA” plastered across your chest is just a tad bit ironic/hypocritical no? 1 Quote

You start with a false premise: that athletes engaging in this kind of protest are “stating … hatred” for the USA. You totally miss the point. To be honest, I expected more than such a knee jerk reaction from you. 1 Quote

Irishman Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 Really did not want to see this devolve like this….pretty sad Not in the least bit interested in knowing who was not watching or why….it was simply a post to highlight something cool about the Olympics. Also not interested in the childish jabs back and forth……but the fact is that anyone from this country who is competing for this country….does not hate this country. It’s a ridiculous and childish notion to say otherwise. Quote
Irishman Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 Back on the topic…..there does seem to be a lot of firsts for athletes competing for the US https://www.kaaltv.com/minnesota-news/walz-proclaims-friday-sunisa-lee-day-in-minnesota/6188930/?cat=10151&fbclid=IwAR2-aCnQk8MZxqu7Q784xfXdRLZCfJfb7KqrmcOCxRPUtUw1qe7PDw6Nxas Other firsts….not just from the US https://www.nbcolympics.com/news/first-not-last-list-firsts-tokyo-olympic-games Quote
