Was really shocked to read that Hendryx resigned from the Warrior Football program especially this late in the new year!!!   Thoughts on who will be interested in this position??

Be careful.  Big brother is always lurking.

I think a lot of folks would be interested, depending on the teaching/day job openings.

Did Coach retire from his day job too?

Seems like a great small school job!  BUT....sometimes those small schools struggle to come up with a teaching or admin job that would "fit" a football coach well.

Dean of Students position is posted too.

WHS also has boys and girls head coaching vacancies at this time.

What exactly does a "Dean of Students" do at a small 1A or 2A school?  Isn't that job a bit redundant?

See for yourself.  Not as glamorous as you may think.  Dean of Students is a truly thankless job.

With attendance being issues all over (don't know if you'd believe it if I told you---not Winamac per se, just in general), that in itself will be extremely tiresome.

From my understanding, it basically takes the place of Asst. or Vice Principle without the need of an admin license.  I know someone that had this job and the duties of being the athletic director as well.  As stated above, I believe it was definitely tiresome and thankless.

Umm, where do you teach?  Maybe kids are different there.

A little bit more to it, too:

  • Assist building principals with disciplinary issues
  • Maintain and track attendance records (6th-12th)
  • Attend truancy and attendance meetings
  • Communicate and with parents regarding academic and behavioral concerns
  • Schedule and oversee after-school detentions and in-school suspensions
  • Support classroom teachers regarding classroom management concerns
  • Assist Building Principals and Athletic Director with extracurricular supervision
  • Mentor at-risk students who are in need of additional support
  • Additional supervision duties assigned by the Principals

Our Dean of Students is also the AD, Wrestling Coach, and Co-Transportation Director while doing most of things you see above.

Does he get a specific stipend for each and every additional role he takes on in addition to his teaching contract salary?

This is what we commonly refer to as "feeding at the public trough."

Sounds like an Asst Principal job description to me.

Fact is, many coaches have had this position created for them as a condition of them taking the job in the first place.  It happens all over the country, but most often you will see the HFC/DOS combination.

Like someone else said, a way to squeeze someone in who may not have an admin license.  I wonder what the pay is...  The public pay was pretty good. Who knows how many hats he really wore.  I get as many extra hours as I can, for sure, so my yearly pay is way over that of my contract.

One HUGE thing you will not see listed is, NO evaluation duties.

***Side note, your niece is doing very nicely this SB season.

I know he does for wrestling. And I believe he does for transportation. But I believe its Dean/AD, so not for AD.

Com’on Gonzos. You know he can’t stay away

He doesn't lurk very well though. If he was on here he would have already posted on this topic by now.
