Indiana Football Today Week #2 Top 25 Countdown

63 posts in this topic

Jwik......Gibson Southern has and continues to build a very strong program and will no doubt be a very tough opponent should Chatard be fortunate enough to make semi-state. To set the record straight, Heritage Hills and Evansville Memorial have either played Chatard very tough or beaten them on several occasions as I believe Memorial did two years in a row. Gibson Southern has only played Chatard once and that game wasn't close. It was 59-7....and if you were there.....it wasn't that close. Gibson Southern was still one of the coolest environments to watch a semi-state game I've attended. The folks there were awesome.

We never expected to make it that far in Coach Harts first year....it was an amazing experience!

Yes, I was talking about this thread poll.

Well then.... that says all I need to know about your site and poll.

We hope you'll visit and see all of the exciting info we'll have on your Cathedral Irish. They're very much a top tier team in 6A.

We never expected to make it that far in Coach Harts first year....it was an amazing experience!

I hope to make it down to Fort Branch this year, would live to experience a game from that stadium and the new turf.

I really just laugh at your comments, because clearly you didn't read the entire post or better yet, any of the posts I've made.

Reitz is #12, Mater Dei was on the poll last week but fell off this week. Gibson Southern and Jasper almost made it in as they are on the list for honorable mention. I'm sorry that you feel that southern Indiana didn't get the respect it deserves, but truth be told, history speaks for itself:

Last state appearance in 1A, 2001 Perry Central, and 1A makes up a large portion of southern IN. There have been 0 1A champs from southern IN.

2A was last year, but besides Mater Dei in 11 and 14, you have to go back to 06 to find Southridge. 2000 was the last time a southern IN team won 2A.

3A, you have to go back 6 years to get to Memorial. 2000 was the last time a southern IN team won 3A.

Go back 6 years in 4A to find the last champion in Reitz. Prior to Reitz, go back to 01 and you'll find Jasper.

5A/6A, go back to 1995!

For 1/3 of the state, the track record certainly hasn't been very strong. One of the guys on our team played at North, he knows all about southern IN and SIAC football.

Even as good as Mater Dei was last year in 2A, they were 42nd in Sagarin. Either those teams will prove themselves or they won't.

...and it's not that we believe southern IN is bad, because I firmly believe Gibson Southern could find their way to LOS this season.

The South has to play through Indianapolis teams in most classes. The "North" is almost always guaranteed to put a team in the state championship game every year because of the way the IHSAA draws lines and refuses to randomize the semistate games.

Also, check Tri-West's semistate and state scores from last season. Who played them closer? Many years, the 3A southern semistate had been much closer than the state championship game.

I'll give you that the North is typically deeper than the South, but the tops of Classes A-4A are pretty similar.

Titan, I understand and you were coming off a huge comeback the week before. Coach Hart has GS primed for another run. I imagine if Chatard makes it that far GS won't just be satisfied with getting there. Would love to road trip down south again. Hope we're both that fortunate.

I hope so too.  Just food for thought...as it is very early, but here is how Calpreps thinks the 2012 Titans compare with the 2015 ones after only 1 game in 2015.

neutral field

[2015] Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, IN) 42, [2012] Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, IN) 28

How does 1A make up a large portion of southern IN? Less than a quarter of the 1A teams are south of Marion County

I would definitely agree with that statement. I think each year we all know who the strongest teams in southern Indiana are, and quite honestly, the completion of I-69 cutting an hour from Indy to Eville off drive team will help as it will allow teams easier access to Indy and to the south as well. Then anyone who wants to "flex their muscle" won't have to spend a load in gas to do so.

Guessing after the backlash received in this thread, and the fact it's Wed. Afternoon and nothing is up, rankings won't be posted this week, led alone this season again?

You lost me as a reader with your 1A southern comment.  1A drives this website.  Maybe next time do some research and you'll be taken more seriously?
