dangers of the 1 and done culture: Painter hit it on the head in post game presser after IU game Why should some of the mid tier guys bust hump when they roll out red carpet for Romeo and knowing he is gone in 2 months, is he worth fighting for? That culture worth fighting for? I say yes, but their play says otherwise as it just seems when adversity has set in, the fight as flown away.2 points

Still hope for us as a country ... and as decent people: https://abcnews.go.com/US/1000-mourners-attend-funeral-unaccompanied-veteran/story?id=60675971 FTA: The funeral of an unaccompanied veteran in Killeen, Texas, was attended by more than 1,000 people -- including hundreds of bikers -- after a cemetery put out a call on social media asking strangers to come pay their respects. The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery asked the public to attend Air Force Veteran Joseph Walker’s funeral on Facebook after failing to reach any of his family members or friends.2 points

Go to the facebook page Teabonics to find this one. There are some great comments to go with this. I just scanned the actual tweet from the President. The replies there.....wow An FYI, the President based this tweet on a bill that has been proposed in this session of the General Assembly here in Indiana. It passed out of committee.2 points

I will comment as a coach that was at the meeting. The Cass athlete was nominated by his coaches. There are a healthy amount of good players in our region. The particular player did not necessarily stack up in the measurables as well as the other players. He was a kid that got better all season. He was an average player at the beginning of the season and made himself into a better than average player by the end. He received IFCA All State, AP All State, Kokomo Tribune, and All Logan Land. He was also Academic All State and Team Captain. Not a bad senior year. Region All Star would have put the cherry on top for his season. There were some teams with lesser records that got kids on. It does not mean that they were any less deserving. I cannot try to reason how a 6-4 team gets 3 guys on and a 7-5 none. It sometimes comes down to the number of kids nominated in a position group. I will also add that this is the first year in 2 years that any Cass coaches went to the meeting. There have been conflicts and miss communication at times that have prevented in coaches attending. This may not sit well with some coaches. I don't know. But there is a responsibility that comes with coaching, and representing your team when you have kids to nominate and when you don't is one of those. I will say it was disappointing, but it does not define this kid. I talked with him last night, and he was good with it. Like I said, it was going to be the cherry on top. Nothing more. Other mainstays have returned to the OOB Forum, so it is time for this one as well. This is awesome. https://metro.co.uk/2019/01/17/headteacher-laid-to-rest-in-coffin-covered-by-drawings-by-her-pupils-8356704/1 point

As if coaches and AD's don't already have enough on their plate, this may be the dumbest idea yet with regards to attracting and retaining officials. https://coachad.com/news/new-jersey-legislator-sensitivity-training-coaches-athletic-directors/1 point

I'm good with the testing but it sucks that its limited to athletes or those who participate in extra-curricular activities. I'm guessing the need is higher (pun intended) with those who participate in nothing.1 point

Surprised this didn't get a whole lot of coverage in the media nor here ... then again, the shutdown, national emergencies, Roger Stone, etc. kind of pushed what would normally be a front-page item back a page or two: https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/trump-national-golf-club-fires-194934788.html FTA: Dozens of undocumented immigrants employed by Donald Trump’s ‘Trump National Golf Club’ in Westchester County, NY were fired earlier this month, as Trump waged a war in Washington to keep others like them from entering the country using a border wall. The immigrants in question were longtime employees of the golf course. Many of them had earned employee-of-the-month awards and had received glowing letters of recommendation for other employment. A few even had the keys to Eric Trump’s weekend home, The Washington Post reports.1 point

Couldn't agree more. It's another CYA policy for the administrators, allows them to say the coach or coaches involved were "trained" not to do this. It makes sense for them but probably will do little to prevent these situations in the future.1 point

I'm definitely not condoning profane vm's to players or the other stuff mentioned, but I would think these kinds of things are outliers. If you have a coach with self control/anger issues, making them sit through some training won't accomplish much, seeing how most of these things happen in the heat of the moment into the season. Maybe someone that's not smart enough to know where to draw the line would benefit, but then they probably shouldn't be working with impressionable kids anyway. Let's all sing "Kumbaya" together.1 point

Whiting has been to this the past two years and it's an excellent event. Very-well run, organized, and a ton of fun. Our kids look forward to it and we will be there this upcoming summer. Our S&C guy, Coach Davenport, does an excellent job of getting our kids ready for this. Last year we brought some large humans and finished second. Hoping for another good showing this year.1 point

Last year was our first year attending and we had a blast! It was a first class event...very organized, affordable, great competition! Can't wait to go back again this summer!1 point

Do you happen to know the name and number of this Indiana bill? I would like to read it's wording. I wonder if it allows for classes in Quran literacy? Torah literacy?1 point

You listed Logansport, Twin Lakes, and North Judson. None of these teams had a player selected over yours at his position. So what is the point of mentioning them? I think in the fact All-State teams are selected by class, and the Region has No Class. It is all encompassing. So I do understand what your saying, I do not think that argument holds much water. I have been going to this meeting for longer than these kids we are voting on have been alive. I have had some very deserving kids and managers who did not make this team. It does not take away from their success and accomplishments. He is a heck of a football player I am sure. You do not get those type of accolades if you are not.1 point

I only saw a handful of these kids play on film, but it looks like OL and DE were two of the toughest positions to get nominated for in this region... Not saying the Cass kid was not deserving, but my goodness there are some studs listed on the team!1 point

I wonder if young Mr. Phinisee is rethinking his decision to attend I.U. instead of the hometown Boilermakers. Honestly it seems like half the current I.U. squad is just biding time, thinking they can be "one and done" and then head to untold riches in the NBA.1 point

Here is the gem of the article" Judge Bernard M. Jones was sympathetic, agreeing with the plaintiffs that the way the game ended was a tragedy. “More tragic, however,” he wrote, “would be for this Court to assert itself in this matter.” To order a replay would be in its own way unfair to the participants in the game: There is simply no way to fully and completely replicate the events and conditions of the disputed quarterfinal in such a way that would alleviate any and all anxiety or question of fairness. Unfortunately, whether in terms of the weather or field conditions, player fatigue, the actions of the coaches or referees, etc., on the day of the quarterfinal, there is no best way to right this wrong without creating even greater uncertainty or inviting further error.1 point
