I blame Under Armour. As they have woo’d schools away from Adidas, Adidas has really cut their stock program, particularly when it comes to purple. When I was coaching, our school colors are Northwestern Purple and White. Northwestern U makes the move to UA, and our main vendor is an Adidas distributor. Adidas cut purple drastically from their stock program. Last set of uni’s we bought, we had to go with black and use purple accents. I understand there are other distributors out there, but me being a loyal guy, I wanted to stick with my guy who’d taken care of me thru the years.

Just heard on the Chicago news break at halftime of the TB/NO game that the crowd was around 8,400. Good call Irish. Thank you again. Heard KC had around 16,000. The most of any team left in the playoffs. Wonder what will be allowed in Tampa for the Super Bowl? And please.......do NOT sell the tickets at a ransom. Donate them to the military, police, first responders and front line workers.

No special insight other than simply looking at names on rosters. It strikes me that a few family names that permeated Ritter rosters (and were involved with coaching at various levels) during some of Ritter’s most productive recent periods can now be found at other archdiocesan schools (and possibly Cathedral). My guess is that the answer as to why that took place might provide some better insight as to what has happened and is happening at Ritter. Just a guess, though. I don’t think Covenant Christian (at least, over the most recent years) figures too prominently in that....at least not yet. Add that I thought I had heard that Ritter had declined an early invite into the CIrcle City Conference and also somewhat abruptly cancelled their series with Chatard a few years back (a series that had taken some years to reinstate in the first place).

Said it forever and still stand by it. Reaching the ball towards the goal line while not a last ditch effort to win, is not a smart choice. The risk far outweighs the reward and Higgins just proved that.

For many years Badger was Adidas largest supplier. Adidas made the move to the Southeast Asia. That was about the time you started seeing a lot of Badger branded apparel. My guess on your color is Adidas fights the same battles Nike has, constantly switching vendors leads to color/material inconsistencies. Nike makes some decent apparel, but I never bought two pieces of apparel that fit the same. We never used Nike apparel when I was coaching, but when my kid was at MU, they were a LIDS school, so the fan gear was all Nike and of course all of the team’s apparel. Being out of coaching and out of parenting, not my problem anymore. My only bitch now is the IHSAA forcing officials to use their suppliers for shirts that are 20 bucks higher than what we were paying for the same shirts before the move.

Not to derail anything, but to piggy back on flopping. I had a JV hoops game the other night. Both teams tried to take charges, early in the game. Neither myself or my partner called it. At the next dead ball, we told both teams, do not flop, you will not get the call and you risk injury. BAM, not one more flop.

I know Lamar is the defending MVP and all, but I’ve never been sold on him for just this reason. He’s a fantastic athlete. But his athleticism cannot trump physics. The defensive players are too big and too fast. Eventually, he’s going to get hit and knocked out of the game. And here the Ravens sit, in the 2nd half of a close playoff game, and their star is on the bench with concussion protocol. It was inevitable. And as entertaining as he is, you can’t place your franchise in the hands of a guy who is going to get hurt, almost certainly. In the NFL, where everyone is good, the most important ability is “availability.”

I am in agreement with both of these points; things are worse in Nevada, where I teach and live. I would argue having 3/4 classes in baseball, basketball, etc is optimal in Indiana because those sports have roster limits and a wider set of State champions. I think 6 classes (I would disperse the classes a bit differently) is optimal for football in Indiana because of the smaller pool of tournament champions and the ability to roster an unlimited number of kids.
