  1. Reitz and Memorial would probably rank somewhere between 5-10 if they were in 5a. I think Snider's a different team on turf in the friendly confines of Lucas Oil than they are in a snow storm blowing toward their sideline. I think Roncalli and New Pal use their size to their advantage in inclement weather conditions and beat Snider by two touchdowns, yes. Not sure I'm buying it though in good weather conditions. Snider has too many weapons in the skill positions to allow themselves to get blown out. North Side has the athletes and perseverance to stay close to any team they play, as evidenced by their 7pt loss to Carroll. None of the forementioned teams in 4a would frighten them in the slightest. When North takes the field, they're ready to punch you in the mouth (in a sportsmanship kind of way.) If they lined up against Center Grove, they'd fully expect to win (not that they would.) Again, you guys look at Valpo's record and see a 3 loss football team. They have the horses in the trenches and a running game to keep it close with the likes of Roncalli and New Pal...........oh, and East Central (keep forgetting about them.) No one is arguing that Roncalli or East Central would be favored in 5a. I would argue that they wouldn't blow out their opponent from the north. I think New Pal fits nicely in that #3 area along with five other teams in 5a. To say that Memorial and Reitz "would" win 5a north is just laughable. I mean, any team has a chance, but VERY improbable with those two. I'll concede that 4a's Top 32 would overmatch 5a's Top 32. But 5a has about 6 or 7 pretty good football teams at the top. Stating otherwise is just stirring up drama. Valpo is your state champion in the state's second largest division. Can't take that away from them no matter how hard you try.

  3. So, if I understand what happened, on 3rd down Team A ran it down very close to, but short of, the line to gain. They then lined up for 4th down, and Team B encroached, resulting in a half the distance penalty, but not a 1st down. The linesman mistakenly told the box man to display 1st down on the box, not 4th down. Team A then ran a play into the line which was stopped for no gain, mistakenly thinking it was 1st down when, in reality, it was 4th down. Since, they were still short of the line to gain, the ball went over to Team B. The question seems to be, should/could the officials have done something to correct the fact that Team A was misled as to the correct down? The only rule that directly addresses errors relating to downs provides: “The referee shall correct the number of the next down prior to the ball becoming live after a new series of downs is awarded and prior to the declaration of the end of any period.” This rule does not seem to address the situation presented here. So, what do you do if you’re the Referee here? If I were wearing the white hat here, my thinking would be that I can’t let Team A be disadvantaged in a way that potentially impacts the outcome of the game due to an officiating error if there is any way I can avoid that result. And there is. Rule 1-1-6 is part of the “God Rule,” and provides: “The referee has authority to rule promptly, and in the spirit of good sportsmanship, on any situation not specifically covered in the rules.” I would then put the ball back at the 2 yd. line and replay 4th down.

  4. So the US traded a convicted Russian arms dealer that supplied terrorist organizations (sworn enemies of the US) like Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Rwanda with Russian weapons that were used to kill American soldiers as well as civilians, who when told by buyers his weapons would be used to kill American pilots, he replied "we have the same enemy" for a person who would not stand for America's national anthem and was proud of that point. Meanwhile a former us serviceman remains in a Russian prison. Anyone else feel like the US (Biden) got the short end of that Russian (Putin) deal? SMH SF wonders if she got her vape pen back......

  5. Congrats to Drayk Bowen on being recognized as the best HS LB in the country. An honor for himself, Andrean, and the whole state of Indiana.

  7. This is just what is on John Harrel's sight. Penn, Elkhart, New Prairie all are not complete. Some SB schools have an open date Fort Wayne schools sure wasted not time getting better quality games too.

  8. Unless you have a personal relationship with Coach Mason or in some way are connected to the situation, I’m not sure how any of us can speculate as to why he made this decision. I’ve heard plenty of things about the situation, but it’s not worth discussing without any first-hand info. From what he said, I can tell you that educators, including coaches, all over feel a split between the admin and them in terms of what they think is best for the kids. If schools want to attract and retain good coaches, they need to provide support for what they’re trying to accomplish on the team and in the school. A good coach won’t be caught dead for long in a school district without support. Eastside may struggle to get a solid replacement for this reason. What I do know is Eastside will greatly miss Mason’s leadership and the football program may struggle in terms of discipline, motivation and all of the other things that Mason did so well. Hopefully they have someone on staff who can continue the type of program that Mason built. He was one of the best in NE IN and won’t be easy to replace. I wish him the best and will miss the annual week 2 showdown between Mason and Mosser!

  9. No, I didn't think I should be talking about this sort of thing on here. I can talk more about the Catholic church if you are interested.

  10. All the names I put on here were Catholic and played or coached at public schools, mostly at Lafayette Jeff. The only one that got a blue ring and medal was the Jeff baseball coach when Jeff won state in 1969 and 1973. Many Catholics don't go to LCC, they go to Jeff. Jeff must have really had an advantage before 1958 when all the Catholic boys in Lafayette had to go to Jeff.

  11. Lol. To say Memorial and Reitz would beat Snider, Valpo, Whiteland, Merrillville, and North Side is an absolute stretch. I have my doubts about New Pal as well. I think East Central and Roncalli would have been favored however. Not saying they'd win, just saying they'd be favored. It's all speculation. Unfortunately those in Central and South will just have to deal with the fact that Valpo is the best time in the second biggest division. Hard pill to swallow, I know. Northern football is good. See the Carroll/HSE score.

  12. It can but after enforcement they would have had to reach the line to gain. This was a goal to go situation so there was no way for A to get a first down on a penalty enforcement for encroachment. We also don't know for sure on this video if the box was at 1 before the 4th down play. If you look at the previous play the line to gain chains are lying on the ground. But when the box is shown with 1 during the discussion, the line to gain chains are now in place for Ballard's drive. They could have already switched it getting ready for the next series. It's possible it was 1 on the 4th down play, but this video doesn't prove it. The coach's argument based on lip reading was only that the ball had broke the plane. It definitely looks possible the ball was across, but if the H was on the goal line this would be an easy one to see. If the H did tell the box to update to 1st down and the teams both assumed it was 1st down (defense is reacting like they knew it was fourth down), I agree with Bob's use of the God rule to replay the 4th down. I would need to be absolutely positive the box was 1 before the play and the coach believed that to be correct down. Tough situation for the crew and a potentially huge mistake on their part.

  13. I should have said last year as opposed to last season. Technically they are leaving in June, but like you said, they are on the schedules of some of the NCC teams for football. Harrison, along with the other Lafayette NCC schools, has Tech on its 2023 schedule and Harrell's shows it as a conference game, but I think, like you said, it's actually due to scheduling/contracts already in place. To my knowledge, the Tech departure was amicable and mutual, so it's not like the conference is turning their back on them and shunning them like you see in some cases when a conference boots a team or a team leaves under less-than-cordial circumstances.

  14. The Packers should fire Joe Barry--their defense has become a dumpster fire. The word on the street in Northern Indiana and Illinois is Jim Leonhard may be hired as Purdue's coach. Interesting move. I never wanted Urban Meyer, just being facetious with that one...

  15. Blazing Saddles - One of the best comedy movies ever made. SF doesn't align with Miss Whoopie on much of anything, (except her former humor) but we are together on this one. https://nypost.com/2022/12/07/whoopi-goldberg-defends-blazing-saddles-against-cancel-culture/ Whoopi Goldberg got fired up Wednesday defending the satirical western “Blazing Saddles” against internet trolls trying to cancel it with claims it takes jokes about racism too far. The hosts of “The View” launched into a debate about how classic comedies are aging in 2022 — a topic inspired by Mindy Kaling’s recent comment that “The Office” is “so inappropriate now” and could never be made today. Goldberg argued the 1974 Mel Brooks flick “Blazing Saddles” “deals with racism by coming at it right, straight, out front, making you think and laugh about it — because, listen, it’s not just racism, it’s all the ‘-isms.’ He hits all the ‘-isms.'” The story, which takes place in 1874, follows a corrupt politician who hires a black sheriff to keep a frontier village from being destroyed. “‘Blazing Saddles,’ because it’s a great comedy, would still go over today — there are a lot of comedies that are not good, OK? We’re just going to say that — that’s not one of them. ‘Blazing Saddles’ is one of the greatest because it hits everybody,” Goldberg insisted.

  17. Yes! RebelDad is a great man with a great family! I had been out of the loop for a little bit, just saw the role KB has at Roncalli extremely happy for him and now ole RebelDad should be changed to RebelGranddad (a role I know he is proud to carry). I am telling you TW some of these O-line guys are really making big splashes with their football minds. It is evident at many levels! Just an example I remember watching Kyle Ralph play in his HS days at St. X (fortunately that St. X was playing some Indiana teams then). Like New Pal or hate them listening to Coach Ralph talk Offense is impressive and he isn't the only one!

  18. I’m a big fan of RebelDad and his sons (whole family for that matter!). I actually returned to Roncalli as the offensive line coach in 2020. However, after meeting with Sam Otley for about twenty minutes, it became very apparent that he should be the guy and I should serve as his assistant. It’s hard to argue with the results. I can’t see him ever leaving Roncalli, but Sam is one of the sharpest football minds I have been around. He will make a great head coach when given the opportunity.

  19. Ok White Goodman move along. Just antiquated that's what happens as you and I get older!🤣 Bet you could still diagram the several blocking schemes on the Power Toss though! #HurricaneScifres (just throwing it back a little) Honestly though glad all is well TW. Now if I can just get RebelDad to make an appearance! He and I have had some great person to person talks!

  20. The packers will fire Joe Barry and hire Jim Leonard. Leonard is in line to go to the nfl as a DC not so much a HC….and the people of Wisconsin like myself have been begging for Leonard to be the packers DC for years also I hope Purdue stays as far away from Urban as possible. The man continually has shown he will sacrifice anything to win and he will overlook a lot of things to keep winning.

  21. Every time you brag about Cathedral........."4A enrollment schools running away with state titles (New Pal and Cathedral)".................I'm going to kindly remind you that they have zero boundaries. You're blind as a bat if you think they don't have an advantage over their 4a counterparts (and pretty much all of 5a).

  22. Early in the season, a much beloved friend who was a mentor to many men passed on. He had sold his business 25 years prior and devoted his life to helping other men in business and life. Afterwards, one man in devotion stated that most men don't "finish well" in life, but that our friend had indeed finished well and that was such a great testament of who he was. My uncle, a major basketball fan, always enjoyed hearing Jerry Baker, and I did as well. Here is hoping that Jerry finishes well.

  23. I think New Pal and Roncalli could make a pretty good case that they may have won 5A. Chatard not so much. I'm not sure the Trojans could have finished better than 4th in the SAC let alone win all of 5A. That won't settle well with those in Indy, I'm just telling it like I see it. The rest of the state never even got a chance to see North Side, as the Redskins ran into 5A's #1 ranked team in the sectionals. They actually had the Panthers down 9 late in the third. If I'm a North Side fan, I'm making a case for them being 5A's second best team. I'm also making a case that they could beat any team in 5A on any given night. The state didn't get to see Snider either, whom I still believe was 5A's best team this year. Valpo is being judged by by their three losses and not so much how good they were when they got #9 back. That kid is a beast and truly made a difference in Valpo's run to the state title. Merrillville could also make a claim that they could beat anyone in 5A on any given night. That being said, let's matchup 4A's top 5 with Snider, Valpo, Whiteland, North Side, and Merrillville. This should keep us busy for the next few days during this off season. I know posters are getting bored. Justasportsfan..........to answer your question, 5A is considered weak since Cathedral and New Pal aren't involved. No one made any claims of it being weak when Snider, Valpo, and Merrillville were in 6A and Cathedral and New Pal were winning championships. It's an Indy thing. Since their representation in that class was slim, that's why they foolishly think it's weak.

  26. Brag? I'm stating facts. 4A enrollment schools have dominated 5A. There's literally no argument to be made otherwise. Cathedral has the same boundaries as every other public school in Central Indiana. How many times and from how many posters do you need to be told that open enrollment absolutely kills any argument to the contrary? Cathedral has plenty of advantages over their 4A and 5A counterparts and none of them have to do with "zero boundaries". And by the way, they're still technically a 4A enrollment school.
