Lemme first start by saying I’m not a huge fan of court storming. It’s not a mountain or hill I’m willing to die on but it’s a slippery slope when you mix fans, players and coaches. That being said, this looks calculated. Osborn has the wherewithal to guide his players and keep them out of harms way yet then charges right through the crowd students immediately thereafter. It’s almost like he was looking for trouble. Both parties share some of the blame but we should hold a leader of young people/adult to a higher standard. Just my opinion… (Oh, and one more…) This decision comes across as weak as hell from Carmel.

Schools choosing to isolate a specific school in particular sports. What does that say about our society and adults? This can only set a precedent for other schools to do the same. You don’t see the HHC kicking new pal out and then schools choosing to not play them when they have gone through their dominant years. CG is a public school that is a huge contributor for the Ihsaa. They need to step in. It is dangerous for what could continue to happen or what potentially could happen in the future for the state of athletics in Indiana high school sports.

If it wasn’t a big deal, then you wouldn’t be on here posting and reading about it, there wouldn’t be articles in Indystar about it, and there wouldn’t be news stations running it as a top headline.

So... how are THOUSANDS of student athletes being penalized? It's just one game per year per sport. They could still play in the playoffs. Imagine the hype for those games!!

Yes, and Carmel's vague defense of pulling out of all contracts doesn't help the matter. Its a gross overreaction and I'd actually rather them come out and SAY that isn't the reason or else folks are going to speculate and not give them the benefit of the doubt, nor should they. If you are penalizing thousands of student athletes due to a knee jerk reaction (of an event that is a 50/50 split in terms of responsibility at WORST) that is awful leadership. But hey, the Carmel AD has an outstanding relationship with the remaining MIC members, which is what's really important, right @BDGiant93? This smells rotten.

I didn't know if that was the exact reason. That he is. I'd hardly call IMG a downgrade from Center Grove. I can't speak to Warren's schedule. I do know in both cases that the coaches have been vocal about keeping the schools on the schedule. BD had an opportunity to schedule IMG on a one-year deal and took it, but the 2024 schedule has Center Grove on it. That could obviously change though. BD picks up Cathedral once Moeller drops off and Carmel doesn't drop off, so I'd hardly call it a weak schedule.

I agree. Something is a-miss, and unjustfully so. CG community schools is as classy as they come!! Just doesn't make sense. I don't think it can be shouted loud enough though... that a student in the video was suspended from school as CG took responsibility for their part in the rushing of the court, but nothing.... I repeat nothing has been done to the moronically unstable coach leading the Carmel boys hoops team. Amazing! Carmel was hoping this video would never come out I guess.

No, and we will likely never know but this is the most recent “incident” and is cited in Kyle’s article. FWIW, CG swept Carmel at all three levels in boys basketball this year for the first time in school history. Just bad timing and looks weak on Carmel’s part. It’s insinuating that CG somehow has a culture problem which is sketchy at best. The conspiracy theorist in me says this is Carmel virtue signaling in order to appease the MIC 6 and pad their application.

I’d agree with everything you said, except do we actually know that this is the reason Carmel is dropping CG? I would say no. In my personal opinion, it says more about Center Grove that all MIC schools and now Carmel have alienated them.

No. I thought government high school athletic departments were funded by gate receipts, sponsorship deals (aka. ads in venues), and donations (aka "booster clubs"). Is that no longer the case?

That may be the case, but often the mom's of priests are often a strong contributing factor to their following in that vocation. It's one of the reasons that the current bishop fully supports girls being altar servers. As a youth coach, we realized that, typically, the most important aspect to getting a kid into football and keeping them there was engaging and convincing the moms. I think the gender shortcoming argument tends to one on shaky ground. Standard argument that I've heard against girls playing the sport is the physicality of the game. There's may be some merit to that as you get high up in the gameplay, although I think there are some guys on teams that would get their clocks cleaned by some girls that might play the game. At the youth level; however, I think the differences are less defined and might just provide fertile ground for setting the hook for folks that might eventually be ripe for candidacy for officiating.

So its ok to use tax funds to pay to break said contracts?

What's your opinion when a school no shows the region all star voting. Meaning a player from that team has zero chance of being on the region all star team and therefore zero chance at the North South game.

Reading these and a lot of these are spot on. Some people just don't go, they don't care, whatever. I've been when I've nominated a kid and been when I haven't. Did I go this year, no. I coach basketball during the winter and we had a game that day. That's the only chance we can vote and if an IFCA member can't make it, they're out of luck. I feel like in this age where we can vote using platforms other than in-person, why can't we when voting for a Region team? Also, some Regions hold their meetings on Sundays assuming that would avoid conflicts that happen during the week. Why can't all Regions hold their meeting on Sunday?

I agree, this is a great match up. Unlike the 50 burger that IMG is going to beat Ben Davis by. I respect Ben Davis for playing IMG but it’s going to be over by the end of the 1st quarter.

As a coach, you have a responsibility to support your student athletes if you as a coach feel that you have a player who is deserving for an opportunity to represent their respective regions. I can only speak for Region 4, you have no shot to make the team if you nominate a player and then no show the meeting. Even if you send an assistant, that will be received well. Another PET PEEVE, SHOW UP to meetings, even when you do NOT have a kid you want to nominate, thats the responsibility of the IFCA member representing the school you work for. Just don't show up when you think you have a kid worthy. cringe worthy stuff there imo
