  3. I never lost my love for high school sports and have attended Bloomington/Bloom South games, both football and basketball, ever since my graduation. A stint in the military temporarily disrupted that, but I kept up with things during that period, and started attending games again after I left the military. My nephew had three boys that were into sports at the high school level, but they were into baseball and attended Edgewood where they played varsity baseball, so I attended a lot of their baseball games when it was possible.

  4. When I was in school in Texas, back in the 70s, all the way down into the junior highs, we had split classes, but they actually occurred in the same time periods with the non-athletes. Most athletes were scheduled for PE in one of the last two class periods of the day in junior high, which allowed them to either "warm up" before practices ... usually read as light lifting or conditioning ... or practice started in your PE period if it was the last period of the day, so you had extended practices. In the off-season, the athlete portion of the class did weights and conditioning. The other part of the class was the non-athlete folks. They tended to get to do the fun stuff like bombardment, shooting hoops, etc. When the weather was nice, they got to go outside and do soccer, football, track-like activity, etc. while we either remained inside on the weight circuit or went outside to the obstacle course for conditioning or the track for the really boring conditioning. The weight circuit because it was situated such that you could see what everyone else was doing that weren't lifting. As you made your way back to the front of the circuit, the first 3-4 stations gave you a full view of the gym and all of the fun stuff the other guys were doing while we were stuck lifting and conditioning.

  5. They'd do it if they wanted a really big win margin.

  6. I don’t disagree. It if you play the right defense that offense is dead in the water. A 3-3-5 stack makes that offense impossible to run not many schools in the state run the stack

  7. @ptr @Payne I just want to say it’s really cool having you guys as part of this online community. I unintentionally have this stereotypical assumption of what the ages of people are on this message board and I’ve been way off a lot of the time. My mind thinks 20s, 30s, 40s and maybe early 50s. Both of you being north of 75 is awesome. The stories of high school sports you must have and the knowledge you bring is very valuable. I have a great appreciation of it so thank you for your contributions in these message board discussions.

  8. I still have a South Central Conference handbook from my senior year in high school (1966 - Franklin Community). Among other information it provides, is the conference history up to that point. I remember the conference having nine members until Jeffersonville joined in the late 1950s as the 10th member; then Southport left after the 1963/64 school year and was replaced by Bloomington in 1964/65. I think BHS was chosen over University, Madison and a couple others (New Albany and North Vernon maybe?) A couple of forgotten members of the conference going wayback were Greencastle who was a charter member but withdrew in 1949 and Indianapolis Washington who joined in 1938 and left in 1942.

  11. That’s why they are playing Saturday. And those distances are common come playoff time. Both GS (TW in 2021) and Reitz (Cathedral in 2009) have had Indy trips for semi state and state in back to back weeks.

  12. I didn’t take that from his comments. CGHS has a plethora of options for student activities. Additionally Coach Mills offers strength and conditioning opportunities for both students and the community. Your comment came across to me as today’s media 101, which is less about accurate understanding and more about pushing a personal agenda.

  13. Interesting to know you are against student nutrition during the school day. Good day Sparty.
