Upgraded lunch at the school, steak or prime rib daily

Back in the day, we were just happy on pepperoni pizza day to get a square that had a sliver of pepperoni on it instead of one that was just all cheese.

Ok, out with it!  How much are they paying through their NIL deals!?

We joke.......but it will be here soon, not under the table like it could possibly be happening right now, but public and out in the open.

I am just wondering so I can keep up with the times. $100 handshake has turned into $300? Always wondered what the scale would be..player A runs under 4.5 and weighs X should be paid Z. What formula do they use for NIL and how can I become a scout and get "properly" compensated for saying someone's kid is a 4 star? I'll rate your kid high, help him get 3m deal and i am only asking 100k...what a time to be alive..

Used to run down the hallway to be the first in line to get, what we'd consider nasty today, that square nasty pizza in the tin container.

And given the chance today, we would all likely still eat it.

Lol, more than likely. Come to find out it's referred to as Detroit style pizza. Personally, I'll take good ol' Fort Wayne Riverbend or Lexi's pizza every time.

I think it's all perspective.  I'm probably a lot older than most on the site, but I remember when pizza first showed up in the lunch line and it was like someone made a mistake and allowed forbidden food into the cafeteria.  @23andCounting you are correct that it certainly wasn't quality pizza, but given that it was so different from the "porcupines" ... any one old enough to remember those? ... that we marked it on the monthly lunch calendar when it was sent out at the start of the month and awaited that glorious day.  As @Irishman said, for those of us where pizza was a novelty item on the menu, I bet we'd probably still eat it today. Just nostalgic! 😃

Two categories of pizza for Temp.

Good pizza and GREAT pizza.

@Justasportsfan But, for the sake of discussion, this is also not a new development. Coaches were at lunches during the season at Grissom begging kids to come out twenty years or more ago.

So back in the early 00's like 01 or 02 Grissom's team was not large like ours (Schmucker), however they had enough for a two deep I believe. But, they were good. Some of Penn's best players consistently came out of Grissom.

Has anyone outside of the Michiana area had Barnaby's, Bruno's or Saylor's Pizza?

Porcupines? There may be an age gap between us @foxbat!

I have tried Saylor's Pizza, similar to Jim K's

@Sparty

I'll take Rutgers/Maryland/Purdue/Indiana in the Big10.  Kentucky/Vandy/Mississippi State AND (sadly my birthplace) Missouri  in the SEC.

I'm here for the Pizza.

Pizza King here in Indiana is the clear winner!  But I have to mortgage my home each time I get it,  to afford that damned Royal Feast. It reminds me so much of Talylana's back in Saint Louis.

Same as with the double crust deep dish pizza here in FW at Oley's on US 24....  Gonna get this ABSOLUTELY, this week then look at my bank account,  the next day.  😗

1.   This thread got majorly hijacked.

2.  Oley's is pretty much the bomb, would rival any Chicago pizza joint.

3.  I'll take the everything at Riverbend over you're beloved Pizza King.........but good nonetheless.

4.  That guy inside the Electric Works makes a pretty tasty pizza. Go support him.

@23andCounting  I absolutely NEED to get my ass to Electric Works.  I've posted and told him that I would.

Then as usual, haven't gone.  There's NO excuse for that on my part.

Same here

Yeah, lots of great players from Grissom and plenty of good teams through the years. Still, participation started to fall off out there about twenty years ago, and it sounds like nothing has changed. I have wondered how many of the Madison Township families end up going to Wa-Nee or Bremen schools since open enrollment began.

Did many families of those who were affiliated with deep playoff runs move away? I am just wondering what happened and also how it could have been avoided, if possible. Community attendance at the games on friday nights?

I’d guess the number of relocations is about the average for a school that isn’t in an economically distressed area, but I could be off. I haven’t been able to get back for a game in three years, but I always felt like there was a notable drop off in Friday night’s importance to the community fifteen years ago give or take a few. The community’s relationship to the program went from “we used to suck but now we’re great,” to “we’ve always been great,” to “we used to be great but maybe we’re not so good.” For those of us who were connected in some way to the first group it might be, “oh no, (do) we suck again.”

Gr8 feedback. What, if any, advice would you give other programs so that they may continue to have community involvement on friday nights? Free tickets to feeder programs or at least maybe a discounted season pass? Any adults over 60 get in free? Heck adults over 50?
