Indiansreloaded Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 Very durable and good. Any RB that can average 12 yards a carry and close to 50 carries a game without getting injured is conditioned well and durable. His size reminds me of Brett Law from Sheridan back in the late 80's. Brett had similar stats and size. Everybody thought that Brett would be a star at IU and rarely saw the field under Coach Bill Mallory. A couple of other RB's also come to mind that were similar in size and stats are from Elwood. Chris Noone and Sammy Mireles, Elwood's current coach. Chris went on to Indiana State where he didn't see much field time. Sammy was Gatorade Player of the Year but not Mr. Football, led the State in Rushing yards his Senior year and was one of the top rushers in the nation as well, yet I don't think he even played a the collegiate level and had very few offers. Have to wonder if the fact that every play that Knox runs is a direct snap to Myles be a factor why he isn't committed yet? Defenses know that he is going to carry the ball 95% of snaps, yet not one defense has been able to stop him. That says the OL is blocking very well and not missing their assignments. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. Could he end up at the NAIA level such as Indiana Wesleyan, St. Francis, Marian, Taylor, or at DIII with Anderson, Depauw, or Wabash? He has the talent to play at Ball State, Indiana State, and other small D1 programs. It will be interesting where he ends up at and I think the tournament will be the deciding factor in his commitment as the deeper Knox goes in the tournament the better the defenses he will face. Sparty Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 Or. The young man just wants to finish his playing days at the HS level. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. 2 Quote

Myles McMaughlin has to be good enough to play at a place like Ball State. I don't care how good the defenses are that he played, 11,000 yards is 11,000 yards. It's crazy that he's not listed among the top 44 recruits in Indiana on 247sports.com. https://247sports.com/season/2026-football/RecruitRankings/?InstitutionGroup=highschool&State=IN I think Myles McMaughlin has to be the favorite to win Mr. Football. 1 Quote

Have to wonder if he was playing in a 5A or 6A program if he would be in the top 44? I know of some others over the years that went on to play at the D1 level whether it be Ball State, Air Force, Purdue, or other programs that didn't commit until after the College Bowl games were over so they could see what school would give the best possibility of getting playing time as a true Freshman and/or which school has the quickest way to the field for them. He'd likely be ranked higher, but you also have to wonder if he'd have the success that he has had. Not very many teams in 5A and 6A would likely do very well running a direct snap offense. I'm not taking anything away from Myles, but his career would likely look different if at a bigger program. This is why it's so hard to compare athletes across different classes. 2 Quote

Sad that this young man has been not given his flowers per se....... But I guess they said the same thing about Charlie Spegal too..... 2 Quote

There will coaches will not vote for him because 1. He does not play at 5a or 6a school... or 4a for that matter 2. They have an axe to grind with his head coach with over 400 wins to his name Charlie Spegal won it in 2019 after breaking the State record. He will first need to make Top 50, then he will need to make it at RB position award winner, then he will be one of the 9 players to be up for Mr. Football that will be casted by every member of IFCA Quote

If he wants to play and has the grades, there is absolutely ZERO excuse for Ball State, Kent State, Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, UMass, and FCS division 1's of the world to not offer this young man. Unless his 40 time starts with a 5, or starts with a 4 and has an 8 or 9 after the decimal point, HE CAN PLAY AT ANY OF THOSE PLACES I NAMED. Hell, I helped sell Iowa their 3rd leading rusher for this season when NOBODY knew how fast he was and that guy only ran for about 3300 yards over 4 years... Lol I know ole Russ can convince somebody that the young man is good (fast) enough. Charlie Spiegal is an odd one because coach Ralph's work in getting his player's recruited is common knowledge if you follow their social media(s), although he DID appear to be slower than Myles, on film. I don't know if that's fact or not though because.... no one knows how fast he is... Lol Quote

SIR IRISH Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 I have seen first hand with my son how hard it is to get recruited by a FBS D1 school, especially now with the transfer portal. This kid is a great RB and athlete but he would be best served going to a D3, NAIA school maybe a Dayton or Butler to be on the field and play early and be a difference maker. I am sure y'all know but D3 schools have studs (from highschool) that never see the field....It is really competitive. Just my opinion....I could be wrong. 3 Quote
Coach Nowlin Posted November 4, 2025 Author Posted November 4, 2025 we had an DL who played at Wabash and played really well....was going to be an aboslute dog for the Wabash this Fall, up and transferred in January and took literally the last spot on Purdue Roster that Coach Simmons was thrying to fill. https://purduesports.com/sports/football/roster/player/jordan-cree I believe he has seen action in last 3 games based on stats.....not sure what special team he is on 1 Quote

If this is true he is faster than the current 3rd leading rusher for the Iowa Hawkeyes was as a Senior in High School (4.55). Between his speed, balance, vision, strength, and size there is, again, ZERO reason he is not a division 1 recruit at 1 of the 358 NCAA Division 1 University's in the country. No, I do not think Myles should be in the Big Ten, ACC, or SEC (although at some places in the Big Ten/ ACC it wouldn't hurt them to have him). I know character matters but I have not heard a single opponent, official, coach, teammate, or otherwise speak poorly about Myles in any capacity so I'll assume that is not an issue. I would bet that he's a great kid and teammate, it appears so on the film, so what's their deal? Him not being good enough is fake news so we can skip that one. LOL And yes Sir Irish, Division 2, 3, and NAIA programs are awesome and great players play there, but Myles has earned the opportunity to be recruited at the highest level not due to his stats (which of course help) but if he's done everything coach Nowlin has said on this post AND he's been performing on the field AND has measurables that fit the level, then he's earned it whether college coaches have pulled the trigger yet or not is probably entirely due to what you mentioned to start your post. It is not easy to get recruited with the changing landscape of college football recruiting/ the portal. Quote

Lol no issues here with Russ. Played against him a few times and coached against him twice. If he is in fact a true 4.49 runner you are correct, he should be getting D1 offers. The offense that Knox runs is not going to help his chances and, I dont think he looks like he is an absolute lightening bolt of a runner (just my opinion). My son is a college running back so I know what I am looking at. I just hope he goes somewhere where he can see the field! 1 Quote
Justasportsfan Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 I watched the film, imo that that 40 time may have been a generous click from coach. At the high school level anything under a 4.5 "pops" as track guys who run under 11.0 seconds cant run under 4.5's. If he had legit run a 4.49 he would be getting the calls, matched with those stats it would be a no brainer.. Quote
coachkj Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 Transfer portal may have changed this a bit but is my old guy opinion that D-I guys go D-I. They don't miss much and if they do its usually the other way, signing a player who isn't as good as they thought. Quote
