Does anyone know what year each team started playing football?   That would be cool to see the year with the number of wins.

Week 6 observations

Reitz wins the SIAC outright and has a big matchup against MD. Bosse just seems all over the place right now.

Castle took care of business over Central, Castle vs Memorial is going to be fun! Central appears to have packed it up

Mater Dei had no problems against Harrison, the Wildcats prepare for a showdown with their Rivals. Harrison might be a little bit more interesting in the later years, got some young players

Memorial overcomes 1H woes to beat a solid Vincennes team. The Tigers earn win #600 in Program history. Vincennes played pretty well in the 1H, but had lots of mistakes in the 2H. I wouldn’t play them during  payoff time.

Jasper is playing some very good ball right now and should be tough in the sectional. Put nearly 200 rushing yards against the #1 SIAC rushing defense. Sounds like North had a lot of problems in the 2H , I did think they were going to keep it competitive

Initial sectional look

2A:

Probably Mater Dei vs North Posey in the Final

3A:

Tough draw for Vincennes getting the defending Champs in the first round. Gibson Southern has been playing great ball all year long. However, should be an exciting matchup too!

4A:

Arguably one of the best balanced draws in the tournament. As Jasper and Memorial are on top of the bracket and will face in the semi-finals. And Reitz will likely face Boonville in the Semi-Finals. Seems like Reitz will either face Memorial or Jasper in the Final, unless Boonville upsets the Panthers. Bosse, Harrison, Central all get tough draws.

5A:

Looks like this one is setting up for a North/Castle rematch in the Final, if they both beat their respective opponents

For those concerned about Sagarin, the first two weeks should give us plenty of connections.

Lower third SIAC Harrison plays a top tier PAC school.

A middle third Lincoln squad faces the Greatest Show on Turf.

Mater Dei will face a sectional opponent with a better record in the first round.

And week 2 features Castle playing New Albany and North playing Floyd Central.

So I get conflicting opinions.  Is Vincennes a middle third team just because of record?  Are they three plays away from being a top third team....or doesn't their record accurately tell the story of who they are?

Reitz, Mater Dei, and the Castle/Memorial winner will all finish with better records than the Alices.  North is heavily favored to finish 5-4 as well.  It's tough to finish 4th/tied for 4th in a 10 team league and claim to be top 1/3.

In a band contest 60-70% of teams can claim to be top tier, but this is football.

They have a number of playmakers on both sides of the ball.  Especially QB Hunt, who is a very athletic dual-threat.  But they mix it up offensively and have several very able RBs and WRs.

In our game they just had a cascade of costly 2H mistakes after a controversial goal line play where Hunt reached for (and hit) the pylon but was called out of bounds.

That play took a lot of wind out of their sails.

Class 3A honorable mention Lincoln and 4A honorable mention Evansville Memorial seemed poised to give fans at Inman Field on Friday another exciting finish. But the Alices didn’t hold up their end of the deal.

I think they have a Defense and a few athletes on Offense to potentially beat anyone in the SIAC. I hate that they have you all first round. This team is much better than a first-round sectional loss but thats what they are going to end with.

While the 2022 season is slowing getting closer to over. A little sneak peak for the 2023 season for what I have in store….

SIAC returning production (finally)

More in-depth break down on weekly games

New Offensive/Defensive stats

And more stuff throughout the offseason

But until then, let’s enjoy the season while it lasts!
