Combination of all 3? MD is peaking at the right time. Reitz is beatable. And anything can happen in the Nut Club game.

Heard from more than one MD fan that the defense kept them in that game, and it is true. MD had trouble moving the ball most of the game, and Reitz was moving all over the place until ill advised “penalties” would hurt them. (The discrepancies in penalties from Reitz to MD was amazing).

But, Reitz won, and we move on to Central as this game moves to the rear view mirror.

Week 9 Observations

North takes care of business and shuts down Central the entire game, the Huskies will rest up this weekend. Central goes winless in the conference, as they inch closer to a winless season.

A nice turnaround for Harrison as they end the season 3-6, looks like Harrison has found their future QB. Harrison will play Boonville in an interesting matchup. Bosse gave an solid effort against Harrison, however, the Dawgs will face Memorial in R1.

Jasper is ROLLING right now having won 4 straight games heading into their bye Week and likely matchup with Memorial in the SF. Vincennes has now lost 3 straight games with various mistakes, it gets harder for the Alices, as they face Gibson Southern in the first round.

This was an exciting game, but Memorial prevails over Castle in the “Cake Eater Bowl”, behind a 210+ rushing yard performance by Porter Rode. Memorial has won 6 out of 7 games after starting 0-2 and tied for 2nd place. Castle gave a nice effort, as they had me on edge in the 2H. Bishop to Aigner combo is extremely good. However, mistakes costs the Knights in this one and end the season going 1-3 in their final 4 games. Knights hope to regain their confidence once 5A starts.

Reitz vs Mater Dei. This game was well advertised, as it sounds like this was an exciting matchup. Reitz wins the games 14-7 in a great defensive performance by Oxley and Co. Questions do arise from the passing game, but that running game is deadly against teams with Vera/Oxley(FB)/Burnett. Mater Dei really surprised me as they kept it close with Reitz until the final play. Sounds like MD defense kept them in the game, while the offense did struggle. Overall, this teams are likely built to play games in November!

Agree with this. The real story in this game was the Reitz defense. There were definitely a few questionable penalties/missed calls that kept it close, but once again, in this matchup the records and talent-on-paper can be thrown out. The Reitz passing game is still struggling a bit but we can only guess that maybe Davies is still not at full strength or just rusty. Vera is quite a game-changer though. I do think good teams will be able to adjust to the Vera-led offense like Mater Dei did in the 2nd half, which is why Reitz is probably hoping Davies and the pass game can get going in full stride again. The Reitz defense continues to impress though, which bodes well for a postseason run. Mater Dei is playing much better football now than they were early on. Linton and Triton Central stand in their way but Mater Dei is capable of making a repeat trip.

The game changed when Reitz put Vera at QB.  Their offense was very quiet the first quarter.  Once they pulled Davies, Vera broke off a long TD run to get Reitz on the board.  Their passing offense looked very simple with Vera at QB.  Throw it long to Thomas and hope he makes a play.  Which he did and that led to their second score.  They need their passing game going if they want to make a run in the playoffs.

MD's offense was held in check all game.  there were some missed throws and receivers not getting much separation.  Some bad penalties (especially the personal foul when they were at the Reitz 20 late in the game) and some miscues (INT and bad snap that resulted in a huge loss.  They need to clean that up before regionals or Triton/Scecina will win that game.  Good news is that the sectional isn't that strong so they should have 3 weeks to get things cleaned up.

Scecina is surprisingly small and not as speedy as one would think.  MD should handle them.

Not sure if they can handle LS speed and size this year.

It was a heckuva game against LS last year.  MD has decent speed, but not great.  Just like most years.  There is a lot of speed in the SIAC this year, so the speed of LS will not surprise them.

I think LS' size will be more difficult for us to handle than their speed. I can't imagine they have more speed than we've seen this year, but there is a long way to go before we get to them.

Thanks for doing this all year.

No problem, I thought it would be beneficial for someone who was curious on mainly the defensive stats or offensive stats. Next season, I’m planning having an ESPN style stat log for each team. Ranging from Total stats down to yards per play (S24 Championship Previews will have this).  I might transition this to a interactive Excel sheet too, but we will see how that goes first.

Out of curiosity where do you find the Jasper stats? As far as MaxPreps is concerned they have only played 1 game all year?

Should we organize a GoFundMe to help get Internet to Dubois county?

I mean you could. But we will still have dial up and spend the money on beer.

Even as a non SIAC guy I liked coming to this thread to see the stats being shown.

Honestly the best part of the SIAC now is that since it’s closed off….comparing these stats is completely fair…everyone played everyone
