Irishman Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Nice road win…..way too many penalties and missed tackles on defense, but made some huge plays when needed. Offense was out of sync most of the night, but a young o line will get better. 1 Quote
PHJIrish Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Yeah, A&M ain't an easy place to play and most of the "experts" on Game Day picked the Aggies. 1 Quote
Coach Nowlin Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 if only that Lacrosse player worked out 🙂 Serious question for our Domer friends, how do you feel about the back to back Portal QB cycle ? helpful or hurtful overall? Quote
Irishman Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 So many bad plays......all around today, and the trend continues of embarrassing home upsets by teams that should have been put away. Seeing comments, most of the focus is on the offense. I want to focus on the defense. I have felt as long as he has been there that Golden's defense has had issues. The scheme is flawed. It also looks like they make zero adjustments to address something, or someone who has been beating the defense. They make 2 or 3 good plays every set of 4 downs, but continually give up one play that keeps a drive alive. Way too many open receivers; the QB was able to escape and gain yards. And why Golden continually blitzes a safety who NEVER gets to the QB is beyond me. I almost forgot to add bad tackling and missed tackling was a problem as well. 1 Quote

Failed fishing trips.......they now run the risk of losing guys. What's the message to them after putting in so much effort to get them in the program? That said, 63% of the 68 power conference starting QB's are transfers, so it's a more common practice. Nothing to lose at this point though, so try one of the other guys. Quote
BTF Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Just when I started to giggle at Michigan's embarrassing loss (I do like their coach though), Notre Dame turns around and gets embarrassed as well much to the delight of Michigan fans knowing that we are sharing in their turmoil. Bad day for the nations two winningest programs. Quote
PHJIrish Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 IMO, Riley Leonard is not a very good choice at QB. I didn't understand why Marcus didn't make a change, when it was apparent he wasn't getting the job done. There are other options at the position. It was a well deserved loss! I loved the emotion of the NIU coach after the game. They'll never forget this game! I see no way to the playoffs now for the Irish. You can't lose to a directional school at home and deserve a spot. Bad day for the nations two winningest programs. Felt pretty pessimistic around 3:45pm yesterday before remembering my Wolverines don’t have to relinquish the crown until mid January of 2025. Felt MUCH better last night around 6:45pm. Honest question…is there a path to the playoff for ND with 10 games to go or was yesterday a death sentence to their season? Footballking16 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Who gets fired first: Sherron Moore or Marcus Freeman? The obvious answer should be Marcus Freeman but something tells me Michigan isn’t going to hang on to a bad investment long. Both are in over their head. 1 Quote

They aren’t going to give Moore 4-5 years like Notre Dame is seemingly going to do with Freeman. It was a give up hire from the start. A team coming off a national title should have produced plenty of quality candidates, almost all more qualified than Moore. Just an opinion but Michigan not bringing in a QB from the portal was strike 1 and will reflect this season accordingly. Quote

I am not disagreeing that they perhaps should’ve had a more in-depth search, but the guy led them to two top 10 wins last season and called a masterful drive in the Rose Bowl. Had Michigan not won the title last year, I might tend to agree with you but we are pretty content so he will get a decent leash. No shame in losing to Texas who is a bona fide national championship contender and after replacing 10 offensive starters. What really sucks is the inability to get playmakers on offense in the portal because all of the good guys were gone before all of Michigan’s underclassmen declared because the Wolverines were playing into January last year. Almost punished for winning. Quote

Will come down to Moore’s ability to coach. I’m guessing after this season a good portion of the Michigan faithful is going to hope the NCAA comes down hard on Moore in his connection to the Stalions case that forces Michigan’s hand. 1 Quote

LOL, just stop. Your hatred and dislike for Michigan is well documented and has been on this forum for years. You’re blinded by it. Let’s get back to Notre Dame. Quote

Ohio State also had insanely better on-field talent than Sherrone Moore so no I didn’t feel the same way. If Michigan had 5* at every position I probably wouldn’t have the same feelings. 1 Quote

It’s even more alarming that a defensive minded coach with two supposed top 10 talents weren’t competitive at home in his first real test. It’s only going to be a matter of time before we start talking about when to pull the band-aid, not if. Edited September 8, 2024 by Footballking16 Quote

Sigh…we really doing this? ”Sherrone chose to ride with…” As stated, McCarthy made his decision in mid-January last year, a week after Michigan’s last game. There were zero legit names left in the transfer portal. Next… Day took over for Meyer with a talented roster but what’s your point? They weren’t coming off of a title like Michigan is. You ask any Michigan fan if they will trade four seasons of 8-4 (the basement of predictions) for a title and they’ll give you a unanimous yes. Sark/Ewers carved up the Michigan coaching staff yesterday and their third down conversion rate kept Michigan on the field and allowed them to exhaust those two top ten talents. Look, I’m mildly concerned but nowhere near panic. Hell, if James Franklin can last as long as he has at Penn State with three top ten wins (Sherrone already has two) Sherrone (an offensive line guru, not a defensive minded coach as you stated) is safe. Texas will be comfortably in the CFP and possibly a top 4 seed. Now, back to Northern Illinois… Edited September 8, 2024 by temptation Quote
Irishman Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 I figured 20th would be the highest they should have been ranked. Quote
Irishman Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Based on previous college football seasons, enough teams in the teens will have a loss that drops them. There are a lot of teams from the SEC in the top 10. Once they start playing each other, those rankings will shake up. The B1G has 4 teams in the top 12. ND SHOULD not have another loss. Being at 18, it's not unrealistic that they are flirting with a 12th place ranking. I am not saying they deserve to, even 10 -12 weeks from now, this loss will keep me from saying they should be in no matter how well they play the rest of the way. Quote

Ehh on one hand they should be decided underdogs on the road at the Coliseum but on the other hand it speaks volumes as to how weak ND’s schedule is this year. They win out and go 11-1 they should probably be in the top 12. Lose to USC and go 10-2, no chance they should be in with that schedule. Quote
