There’s some truth to your point but I think you are focusing too much on “Indiana.” The Big Ten’s perception nationally is that it is inferior on the gridiron. This is for a variety of reasons… As much as it pains me to say this, even the Big Ten’s flagship program (Ohio State) has fallen flat on the big stage and often against programs from the southeast. Bowl game results (long before they became meaningless as they are today) are played in the southeast, giving a home field advantage to SEC teams and though I don’t have the data in front of me, I’d imagine the results are tipped in the SEC’s favor. The SEC is flashy and rarely is weather a factor in their contests, whereas the Big Ten’s “perception” is a slow, ground and pound league. Michigan broke through last year but until Midwest programs so do more often, this will be viewed as an anomaly.

Once again, I am not necessarily disagreeing. I am stating clearly that one of the reasons IU is being raked over the coals is that their arrogant head coach spoke out of his ass all season and even did so hours before the playoff game. You can’t puff your chest out, flex and then whine and play the victim when you lose and get exposed.

I’m not as negative on Jackson. The young man is tall, can run, and throws a beautiful ball. Hope he lands where he can get on the field. Was watching Connor Baselak last night for Bowling Green. His IU experience wasn’t great, but he looked like he enjoyed slinging the ball around for the Falcons. Last night for 390 yds and 3 TD’s. Sometimes one just has to find their fit.

Some do. Not all private schools are the same, just as not all public schools are. The recent Mt Vernon/Cathedral drama points to that.

Not a fan of talking about guys taking over a team when they have a head coach in place, but I have seen and heard this a few times now.

The only problem I have with the Open Division is that some very good football teams are going to have their season ended after one week. I'm not a big fan of that. When you have a really good team, you earn your right to advance and play more football. That being said, I do think that being picked as one of the best eight is an achievement in itself. If you're a good team in the current format and bow out early, no one will remember you. If you're picked as one of the top eight, like the College Fooball Playoff, you'll always be remembered for reaching that elite level. And let's be honest, if you're one of the eight best teams in the state of Indiana, you deserve to be remembered. Let's pick on Heritage Hills for a minute. No one outside their community will remember what they did this year. However, if they made the Top 8, then that team will never be forgotten by a large portion of the football community.

I'm 81 years old and I remember many players of color not receiving their just do just because of their skin color. It's history! The first player of color to win the Heisman, for example, was the great Ernie Davis from Syracuse in 1961. I lived through the era of racial divide. I know all about it. BTW, I was blest to have seen Ernie Davis play for the Orangemen at Notre Dame in 1961, and I can attest that he deserved the award! He was dynamite, and it's a shame that he died soon after from cancer.

You must be a young person. It was common in the 1950's to bypass players of color for major awards. Just a sign of the times.
