  2. School system I work in offers an officiating class to high school students where they can get certified to work middle school events. Kids were able to make money calling aau on the weekends and middle school on the week nights. I feel like it would be a great addition to most school systems.

  4. I’ve often felt that recruitment of female athletes could go a long way toward alleviating the officiating shortage. This is an easy path to an untapped resource.

  6. The day we all knew was coming … but it’s still tough. HOF Steve McMichael succumbs to ALS. https://www.nfl.com/news/hall-of-famer-and-bears-legend-steve-mongo-mcmichael-dies-at-67-following-battle-with-als R.I.P. Mongo

  7. It might have been after the Warsaw game. He said it was "more important" to have a guy like Grant playing at a high level at Michigan vs an entire team winning a state championship. Yeah, pretty comical.

  8. And yet, we’ve also had a woman officiate in the Super Bowl. Pretty hard to generalize from a single example.

  9. Needed them for their state title run, I believe. Good for them. They were ahead of the game on this whole transfer thing.

  11. No shame in that! I'm guessing North Spencer wouldn't turn anyone away.

  12. Have seen a lot of work in progress officials of both genders. Just don’t push a lady ahead bc she is a lady.

  13. is what is... but the one female official we had this year was AWFUL do they require the girls to wear a mouthpiece in flag? If not, they should

  14. CI initially was just a parking place for the Indy area schools while they kept their eye on a permanent place in a conference around that area. CI needed those schools since there was not a plethora of schools south of there that were of sufficient size for the conference. Of those that were, they were pretty much locked-in with the HHC.

  15. Could be a path for more women to become officials.

  16. Quite the contrary....but I already know reading comprehension is optional in North Spencer. LOL

  17. Last 2 years have been higher in total, but no where near the history in severity. I'd personally like to see more than 2 years to make a statistical judgment to say we are seeing a true increase, but no doubt in terms of frequency, last 2 years are at the totals of years such as 1965 and 1974. But severity of the tornadoes is not comparable over the past 2 years. Nice archive by the IndyStar https://data.indystar.com/tornado-archive/

  18. I don't want this to sound insensitive because it's not the intent... But are they going there so they can play and they wouldn't play at Penn? It happens around our area some. Kids that will not step on the field at big schools, leave for small(er) schools where they will get an opportunity to get on the field/court.

  19. There’s an awful lot to admire about the Merrillville program. It’s unfortunate that some people can’t see past a single deranged Pirate fan and appreciate all the accomplishments of Coach Seiss and his staff. They’ve done a great job.

  22. I missed this as well Irish. Really enjoyed listing to Al Trautwig. Another favorite play by play icon passed away yesterday. https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/44803930/mike-patrick-espn-play-play-voice-36-years-dies-80

  23. I missed this one from late February. Al was a part of the original coverage of the NHL on USA Network in the early days of cable. Before we had cable, dad and I would go watch games at a friend's house until we had gotten cable ourselves. Voices like Dan Kelly, Sam Rosen, and Al Trautwig were unforgettable. RIP Al https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/44000011/broadcaster-al-trautwig-68-dies-complications-cancer
