  1. City of Hammond is named after George Hammond. He was the man who invented refrigerated railroad cars. They should be called the Hammond Ice Trains.

  2. I agree....my apologies to coach...seriously.

  3. Is this petty slow time discussion? Uh, what does this do to the school as far as their performance in any of the sports? Explain.

  4. Good luck with that in today’s PC climate ... something I know is a particular sore spot with you.

  5. Just read in the IHSAA Minutes, that they are thinking about passing a rule that will allow sub varsity games to be shorten in all sports. I guess that means that if both teams agree, your JV and Freshman games could be 1 half instead of 4 quarters. Could help teams that have smaller rosters, or whose opponents do not field sub varsity teams.

  6. Officially? No. But that’s kind of what I’ve heard from their fans.

  7. WORST thing they could of done was take away 5 SUB VARSITY quarters a week and made it 4. Really has put us in a bind some weeks

  8. Morton has been a big fish in a small pond ever since Roy Richards and Hammond’s open enrollment policy combined to attract some really fine athletes to that program. It’ll be great to see if they can take it to the next level.

  9. Anyone know much about what Bloomington South is bringing back? I would think they could make some noise with the McCullough brothers joining their roster (2 top 100 players in the nation for the respective classes) if they have any sort of talent surrounding them.

  10. I don't know what any of the teams in that sectional have coming back or coming in, LCC included. So if you do, you certainly know more than me. Not a high bar to clear on that front and really not anything that's going to have anyone on the edge of their seat going into next season so the allusion to some sort of big secret is kind of funny. Tell me. Don't tell me. No big deal to me either way. I will say that for anyone in that sectional to end up at Lucas Oil in 2021, they will have to be much improved from last season but stranger things happen every single year.

  11. When Elston and Rogers consolidated in 1995 the students were given a list of nicknames to vote on and Wolves was the winner. For years Michigan City was known as the Coho Fishing Capital of the Midwest. I thought the Michigan City Steelheads would have been perfect. I am constantly asked, “Why is it called Michigan City even though it is in Indiana?” It is named after the Historic Michigan Road which was a pioneering lumber supply route that crossed the state from Kentucky to the Lake Michigan Shipping port that developed the cities along the Lake Michigan basin.

  12. It’s not going to change. Too bad they don’t care about the history. Wolves is terribly generic. They used a “student survey” from a Denver marketing firm last year that doesn’t know Hammond from Carmel, so there is zero community relevance to wolves. A few 16 year olds who were e-learning thought it sounded cool. Just as much a tragedy getting rid of the George Rogers Clark identity. It is really odd that they decided to change the name. The new school is built directly adjacent to Hammond High on the school’s parking lot and football field. They can’t be more than 20 yards apart. FWIW, the Michigan City change still has some people upset and I’ve seen good arguments. I know I’ve read it before from MC people on Harrell boards that losing the Elston name really hurt community support/unity/excitement/whatever for MC. Rogers was barely around 20 years and Elston was around for 90, but they decided to go neutral. I’m disappointed in Hammond, but more concerned now that they get their own football facility ASAP. They’re going to have to share with Morton for at least a year, which stinks and won’t help the program hit the ground running. Hiring a good coach like Adam Hudak will help though.

  13. Probably more likely to find a cougar roaming Fort Wayne than a Panther. But then the all black uniforms wouldn't make any sense. Nah, I'll pass.

  14. I did go interview. Thank you. I have interviewed for several head coaching positions over the years. 8 football and 2 basketball actually and they're all different. Sometimes I leave and am super excited and really want the job and sometimes I just want to leave!

  15. Ha. So True. And I can't escape them in Central Indiana. They're everywhere. The candy stripe guys were a disgrace during Romeo's tenure at New Albany and when they followed the self described "Movement" around the AAU circuit.

  16. I have a certain level of confidence in the offensive line based both on past performance, as well as the glowing reports coming out of Spring ball on the two soon-to-be sophomores Rocco Spindler and Blake Fisher. Coan will almost certainly be the QB starter in Game 1. But he is just a bridge to the Chosen One — Tyler Buchner — who was impressive in the Blue-Gold Game. Here’s one account of his play: Early enrollee freshman quarterback Tyler Buchner played the second half — free of a red no-contact jersey and fully unleashed — and captured the imaginations of Irish fans across the country. He was 6-for-9 for 140 yards with a rushing touchdown. He led both touchdown drives in a 17-3 Blue victory. Look for Buchner to get some snaps early, and if the Irish falter out of the gate, anything is possible.
