Griffith 56 Highland 0

Highland beat Griffith last year 27-23.

2a Indy Ritter 36 6a Indy Tech 0

I know Tech is bad but Ritter hasn't been very good the last few years.  LCC plays Ritter this week.  Is Ritter that good or is Tech that bad.  "Oh MY"

If you have an "OH MY" score, post it.

This was the first game for Highland’s Ben Geffen as head coach. He was a former head coach and All State player … at Griffith. Wonder if that had anything to do with the score.

While it's not what you would call an "Oh My" score, I would like to congratulate Brown County on their season opening win at Owen Valley, 30-21. Owen Valley had blasted the Eagles the past two seasons, 60-0 and 77-7, and BC had lost by some totally out of control scores in those two seasons despite the mercy rule, like 84-0 to Greencastle last season.

They have a first-year coach in Tony Bell who seems to have turned around the attitude surrounding the program. The program had been a real mess for a few seasons.

North Judson 42 Knox 21

Knox had a lot of hype. Wasn't expecting them to come out as flat as they did on top of being unprepared. Knox was a top 5 3A.

Triton 27 LaVille 6

Laville was favored 38-7 and ranked over Triton.

Penn v Valpo 49-42. Penn wins on a last second sack. ZERO defense was played in the 3rd quarter. Penn scored 21 points and I think Valpo matched it.

Over 1100 yards of total offense between the schools. Valpo is big (per usual) all over the field and their QB looks like he will be able to handle the pressure of the DAC.

Plymouth 53 Twin Lake 20: Signs of life out of the once respectable Plymouth program

I think we will know for sure after the next two weeks. They have Columbia City and Northridge coming up. Win one of two or both, look out...Drop both games I think this is business as usual for Plymouth.

Looking forward to this one.  Been over a quarter century since these two last met.  LCC won the last time 19-8 back in 1998.

I think that we have our best collection of skill players since before the pandemic.  We play tough teams but I feel we will be in more games than people believe we will be in.  Can we make enough plays to win?  That is the big question.

I wish you guys the best, but pasting Twin Lakes should be expected.   Although I love matchups from outside the league, take on Tipton, West Lafayette, or even Central Catholic if you want a more accurate measuring stick.

Plymouth had 2 wins last year coming off of back to back Zero win seasons. Not sure it's fair to say pasting anyone should be expected for Plymouth.

Cathedral was a completed TD pass from going up 31-0 on Ben Davis. Mark Zackery took that pass 100 yards the other way to the house, but that's my OH MY score, 24-6 Irish. I knew Cathedral was tough, but I didn't think the Giants would struggle like that to start out.

Yeah, Its been awhile since we played Ritter.  We beat them in 1997, 30-8.  Ritter spoiled LCC's Homecoming 42-6 in 1983 and Ritter beat LCC 27-0 in 1984.  But those were bad years for LCC.  I think LCC could be unbeaten when they play WL this year.

That probably had a lot to do with it.  It's going to be a long year for Highland.

Northeastern 80 Union County 0.

Low roster numbers, lots of 2-way players (especially on O-line and D-line) and poor fundamentals are what immediately sticks out when you watch this Union County team. They've got a long rebuild ahead of them. I wish them success.

We don't need to use non-conference games as measuring sticks.  The NLC is a tough enough test for us.  But learning to win is what we have lacked the last couple of seasons so getting into a winning mindset is what will help us achieve in NLC and state tournament play.
