IMO Central can thank the culture Andy Owen developed at Central. Win at all cost, disrespect your opponents, hire unqualified friends, and turn a blind eye to all on and off field problems. Just win baby!!!

They lost back to back HC that could flat out coach but couldn’t straighten out the dumpster fire created by AO.

Now the program will suffer for the foreseeable future.

Totally agree. Most classless program around during his time.

SIAC Round 1 Observations

Mater Dei started slowly but eventually reeled off a solid victory over Perry Central, the Cats move on to face Tell City

Reitz called game after 1.25 Quarters after being up 49-0. Reitz will move on  to face an intriguing matchup against Boonville. Central’s season and has now gone winless for the first time since 1985, the Bears will dread a long offseason.

Memorial took care of business by scoring 45 straight points in the 1H after Bosse went up 8-0. Memorial’s D was all over the place in Bosse’s backfield, as the Tigers advance against Jasper in a rematch. Bosse’s season will end, but on the bright side,  does have some talent returning.

Harrison takes a an early exit loss against a solid Boonville team that exploded offensively. Boonville will host Reitz in the semifinal. Harrison seems to have a good amount of talent returning.

Vincennes gave all they had against the defending State Champions in a shootout game and dropping almost 600 yards of total offense. Gibson Southern will advance to play Owen Valley in the semifinal, which should be one of the best games in Southern Indiana. While Vincennes did lose, they return a lot back and is in my preseason Top 3 in the SIAC next year.

Thanks again for doing the team stats. Cool to see how teams have progressed, regressed, or stayed consistent all season. Do you still have updated player stats/conference leaders as well?

I've decided to stop posting those on here, since they are all available on on MaxPreps (Jasper isn't included):

Thanks! Pretty impressive defensive numbers around the conference. Three guys over 100 tackles. Purdy with 136 tackles and Mueller with 127 tackles is wild. Six players with at least 3 interceptions. Also noticed that the Reitz DL trio  ( Oxley 14, Utley 12, Brantley 8 ) has 34 sacks between them 😱

Thanks! Planning on adding more things like  Defensive Rushing/Passing YPC, Defensive Passing Percentages, Yards per Offensive Play, and much more for next year.

I wish teams would post QB Hurries and etc. for calculating Pass rush scores (this would be fun to do). But just by judging from the individual stats, Reitz is likely #1 pass rush in the SIAC, that defensive Trio is very good and they will return their DL primary starters, except for Head.

Reitz is a 3-5-3 team correct? so do you attribute their coverage guys behind them to their sack totals or is it just that great of a pass rush ?

How good is Evansville North?

All things considered?? Very average.
on paper and in the airport probably one the most impressive looking teams.

Hmm. We’ll see if Floyd Central can give them a good game or not?

I would add they impressive on the eye test walking out of the locker room.

Big in the trenches, very good run game too, some questions on the passing game. Defensively, they defend well against the run, and have some quick players in the backfield

I’d say North wins this Sectional.

Looks like a 3-3 or 3-5 yeah. I think it is a combination of everything. They have speed all over the defense. The secondary and linebackers fly around and don't give up many passes. The DL is big/strong and fast. Teams do not have much time to establish any comfort in the pocket.

Fortunately for Boonville, they have a QB who is fast and athletic enough to get out of the pocket and make plays. Boonville may find success how VL found success. But I just don't think it will be enough to beat this Reitz team for four quarters.

They are not as good as they should be, we'll put it that way. They run the ball a bunch on offense and stop the run pretty well on defense. If you can make them pass, and you mix it up on offense, they are definitely beatable.

Floyd Central has a good defense. Their DTs are 350 and 270. They have a good QB and some solid WRs but their coach prefers to run the ball.

An interesting fact about North, they are 1-4 at Home, with their only win against Memorial, but are 4-0 in away games.

They run the 3-3-5 that Cathedral runs where the two free safeties are hybrid linebackers, but are fast enough to be really good in coverage. They do not really blitz much. Most of the sacks are the defensive linemen beating their blocker at the point of attack and making a play on the QB.
