Good to hear when these young men step up in all aspects of school/life.  He also wrestled for the Panthers.

He's got a fan in me. No question.

What's the analysis of this conference this season? Obviously I know what my community has. I expect Columbus East to be pretty good because it's Columbus East. I've heard some good things about Jeffersonville coming off of a 6-5 season. Having AJ Moye as the AD might be good for them. New Albany seems to be in year 4 of a rebuild. I don't really know anything about the Hwy 50 schools? BNL, SHS, JC. Seymour has been decent recently so I would think they'll be alright.

I anticipate a similar, if not slightly better, year for Jennings County. Lots of new faces and not much depth. The biggest challenge has just been to retain kids from year to year. With the schedule change this year and next year, I anticipate they’ll get more wins as they’ll be playing more small school teams.

Pick ‘em time! Thank God the website’s certificate was fixed so we don’t miss a week or two.

This will be the sixth edition of HHC Pick ‘Em. If you are tagged, let me know if you hope to compete again this year. Others are welcome to join as well. Please note that you have to submit picks every single week before kickoff time if you want to be a part of the main competition. If you don’t, I will still allow you to submit picks and will display your totals in relation to others who failed to pick every game. However, you’ll be tabulated based on percentage and won’t be eligible to win the main competition.

This is probably Floyd Centrals first real opportunity in a while to get an opening win. The KY team they're playing isn't anywhere close to Male or St X as far as quality. I've got us at 7-2 this season, losing AT Whiteland and AT Columbus East, both of which have very strong SR classes. FC will rely heavily on their JR class and they should be some kind of post-season contender next season and maybe this season depending on how good Castle is.

According to my Maps app, it’s an hour and 50 minute drive from Floyd Central to Warren East (located in Bowling Green). Floyd Central had a much further drive when playing Terre Haute South so I can’t imagine drive time being a major factor here.

According to Wikipedia, Warren East had just under 1,000 students during the 2023-2024 schools year. So unless they had a big enrollment jump, Floyd almost doubles them up.

Per MaxPreps, here’s Warren East’s records the last ten years.

2024: 6-5

2023: 6-6

2022: 12-1

2021: 5-6

2020: 4-6

2019: 4-7

2018: 6-5

2017: 6-5

2016: 3-8

2015: 1-9

Based on all this data, if Floyd Central doesn’t win on Friday night then they’ve got problems.

We had I believe Warren South at Gibson Southern a few years back, if that team is indicative of the kind of ball they play in Bowling Greene, I’d expect a game. Or it could be a WC/NC situation, 20 minutes apart and in different universes.

This might be a stupid question but are the rules very similar from state to state? I wasn’t sure if you had to advise out of state teams on any rules differences there will be when they come here.

They have some athletes from what I've read. Graduated one of the best players they've ever had. Leading passer, rusher, tackler, punter, kicker.

I guess FC should be fortunate he's not on the field this season.

I think we are in good shape, but it's hard to tell anything from a scrimmage against Charlestown who has a brand new HC. We definitely look bigger this season. DTs are huge. A couple of guys who didn't play last season, 1 due to transfer and 1 due to injury. Donovan Taylor WR/CB and Luke Jacobi RB. Probably the two fastest guys on the team. They could be fun. I definitely want to see how the team does up at Whiteland next week who has 37 Seniors and 18 returning starters. That team might be tremendous.

Warren South is a county school powerhouse. Warren East is like a toned down version. Bowling Green is also insanely good and has dealt some blows to Indiana schools in the recent past. Lots of talent in the Bowling Green area. Floyd Central should have numbers/size advantage but people in the BG area take their hs sports very seriously so I wouldn't be surprised if Warren East puts up a good fight. I'd pick Warren South and BG to handle FC for what its worth.

I believe currently 47 of the 50 states play by NFHS rules. The other three being NCAA. So yes, for the most part same playing rules. However some nuanced stuff is different. For instance, during COVID, our team box was expanded 20-20. KY kept that and allow coaches down there. We never allowed coaches. Does that make sense?

Yes. Only reason I ask is because, in basketball, I know some states have a shot clock. I figured most rules in football were pretty consistent from state to state aside from minor differences.

Yeah I don't see us beating Bowling Green. Heck, they beat Trinity sometimes.

The last time I checked, and it's been a couple of years, nine states had the shot clock in high school basketball. As it's been pointed out, NFHS rules are followed just about everywhere for football.

I see alot of people picking Providence? I know New Albany is no power but are they that bad? Providence lost alot and will have a first time starter in Soph QB. I dont know a ton about either but hard to fathom Providence will have more speed and that's how they won alot of games I watched previous seasons

There are several oddities, I’ve not had a lot of KY schools, but I’ve had a ton of Ohio schools and they’re all very good about understanding when they come to Indiana they play by our rules. And in talking with some of the coaches that play there, they get it. I had bigger issues with KY schools in JV games as Madison and Switz has added county schools from across the river. One school brought their V to the JV on Monday at Switz, yep the exact same team that play on Friday, less their senior, notice senior was not plural.

Our pick ‘em got interrupted by GID being down for 2 and a half weeks. Curious to know if people think we should start fresh with week 4 since not everyone had time to get their picks in during week 1 or if we should just crown a winner based on percentage this year. Any input would be appreciated.
