Just a dad
@Purdue Pete Hard to tell what went on in the Chatard/Guerin game. Credit to the Guerin kids as they made all of the big plays (75 yd wr screen for a TD, ricochet pass off the Chatard WR that was intercepted and returned to the 1 yard line, double ricochet pass that landed in the Guerin WR hands for a 54 yd TD, multiple long KRs). Guerin was certainly far more disciplined as the yellow flags were plentiful against Chatard. Guerin was 1 missed 2 pointer from winning it (maybe that was Chatard’s one big play?). Much respect to the Guerin kids and coaching staff for their performance. After watching it I can't really say if Guerin is better than they played against Brebeuf and Roncalli, if Chatard is worse, if it was a trap game, who knows. I guess that’s why it’s fun that everyone makes the playoffs and gets to compete on the field.

Don't know for sure, but one would assume they do. My comment has more to do with me trying to understand why BJ and where they fit in 4A. Harrison is a pretty solid program (Roncalli played them two years ago) and SW seems to be a pretty strong program in KY. I have mixed opinions about everyone they have taking snaps on the roster and seem to be pretty suspect running the ball.

I would also agree about Guerin being in the conversation unless there's some data that shows that Chatard played their JV to let the varsity heal up, some key Chatard playmaker being out or hampered, or something similar. Just a dad
Just curious: Is there a reason that the IHSAA doesn’t just have all teams play everyone in their Section plus two or three other games then take the regular season winner from each sectional based solely on their record within the sectional? Would’t it allow for rivalry games to still happen but then also let the actual winer off each sectional to be the team with the best head-to-head sectional title? I actually like the current system because it lets even the worst team believe with the right draw they can at least make their sectional final. The only teams that seem to have trouble with it are teams that get a tough first round draw (totally understand that as well). Thanks for the info. Just a dad
@Titan32 Good enough explanation for me. Tradition should be honored and respected.
DumfriesYMCA
Final regular season rankings according to Maxpreps 5 teams are 9-0….but will any actually make it to 15-
Just a dad
Just went over to CalPreps and looked at the State and National SOS for those schools that are still undefeated. Team State National WL. 181. 9087 GS. 103. 4866 OH. 202. 9947 OV. 231. 10910 HC. 260. 11952 Of that group, GS looks like the most likely candidate since it would appear that they have faced the toughest challenges by a wide margin. Very interesting. Although I don't get too caught up in SOS. Edited October 17, 2022 by Titan32
Just a dad
For additional comparison, Guerin is 23 State and 1147 National Chatard is 17 State and 293 National Western Boone is 108 State and 5104 National Lawrenceburg is 122 State and 5906 National Norwell is 133 State and 6185 National Other than the two Catholic school outliers (whose SoS benefits from playing both playing each other, Roncalli and Brebeuf. Chatard also played Cathedral, Cincinnati Elder #4 D1 school in Ohio and Christian Brother’s Academy #2 6A school in MO. Guerin also played East Central) the top 8 seem to be pretty evenly matched in their opponents strength. Chatard certainly plays an incredibly tough schedule…I just don’t know if I really take that much away from it. i mean…in 2015 a Chatard team that won 3A state going 12-3 was nearly beat by Gibson Southern. If not for the ice that caused like 9 turnovers for GS that game, Chatard would have lost to a team who played an SOS that wasn’t even in the top 200 of the state. SoS matters and it doesn’t. GS certainly has spent the last 4 years trying to improve their schedule and it has showed…but at the same time sometimes teams just have the dudes and it doesn’t matter who they played. i think Owen Valley has a chance to be that team. Very balanced very dominant….lots of seniors. They have a tough path of course but they certainly are a team where you can’t just dismiss them because of their SoS

Agree with everything you said. I think higher strength of schedule is definitely a benefit in a vacuum. Playing better competition and having to win tough games will help you when you get in that situation during the playoffs, all else equal. But I think you also run the risk of more injuries and you may come out of it worse than when you started, especially for 3A schools who don't have the same depth as 5/6A schools. I know Chatard has several starters out right now, although not sure for how long, but that could prove to be a negative of playing the schedule they did. But at the end of the day, it's about the dudes, like you said. If you've got the dudes, it doesn't really matter who you've played. 2015 GS team is a perfect example. They had the dudes and Chatard's strength of schedule would have made no difference. The only thing that could have stopped that team from beating Chatard was an act of God, which is why I'm grateful we are a Catholic school (only kidding, tons of respect of GS and know that outcome would have been different). 1

I jokingly think back to then and question how God was on your side when the 2015 team had a QB who was committed to going to seminary school in Rome and the team got in trouble for praying on the field after games lol Father might not play favorites but Mother Nature sure does 😂😉 in all seriousness…I would love to see Chatard and GS schedule each other in the regular season. It’s been 7 years of wanting to get a rematch with Chatard but no dice. Maybe if we are lucky both teams can get 5 more wins in a row over the next month.

Not to mention there are probably more Catholics on GS team (or HH for that matter) than Chatard's.....sorry, couldn't pass on that one, all the Chatard folks don't get too wadded up... Everybody wants Bama, until they get Bama. We have had a bunch of close heartbreakers with Chatard over the years and just one win. Frankly, it doesn't bother me at all when they are in 4A, makes 3A more interesting. Be careful what you wish for. Playing Chatard in the regular season and the postseason are 2 different animals. What is that line I see on here sometimes about ifs and buts being my aunt's candies and nuts and my uncle having a wonderful Christmas? 1
