Ok...This topic has been through the wringer folks...posts are all over the place. Pretty sure it was not @psaboy's intent when starting it. All the what if matchups are fun to talk about, but they ain't happenin; and no chance they will. If you want to continue in the what if matchups or the wishful thinking ones, feel free to start a new topic. Now back to our regularly scheduled discussion 🙂 This might work out well for Snider; Homestead has a LOT of weapons, and having some extra time to prepare could help.

Why would they play a team that would be one of if not the best team they play all year? Probably because it would make them better and be a great measurement to where they are as a whole. Why did they pick up Penn last year when Leo was the next week? East Noble would be a better game than South Side for Snider and Snider would be a better game than Dekalb. Both teams would get better and it would be competitive. This is definitely not a ridiculous fantasy matchup.

Washington Post? Zilch. Nothing comes up on The New York Times site either, although if you make it to the 15th paragraph of a story titled “The Vice President pushed back against the effort to recall Newsom in the Bay Area,” you will find a bland passing reference to Wednesday’s disgusting incident. According to our nation’s media leaders, it’s not a story that a white person wearing a gorilla mask attacked Larry Elder, a black man seeking to become the first non-white governor of California, by hurling an egg that touched his head. If Elder were a Democrat, the attack would have been instantly and with good reason dubbed racist. It would not only be front-page news, it would be just about the only news you were hearing about today on CNN and MSNBC. Charles Blow, Perry Bacon and Jamelle Bouie would each be writing the first in a series of angry columns about it. So would Gail Collins, Jonathan Capehart, Jennifer Rubin, Michelle Goldberg, Paul Krugman, Maureen Dowd, Dana Milbank and Ezra Klein. We would be treated to multiple news analyses about the history of the usage of gorilla tropes against blacks. Joy-Ann Reid, Rachel Maddow and Don Lemon would be doing hour-long broadcasts on the attack, convening panels discussing just how the attack pulls the scab off racism in America, and proves we have so much work left to do in dealing with the problem. Vox would commission a series about California’s grim history of racism dating back to the Chinese Exclusion Act, and Asian-American and Latino writers would hasten to explain that California’s historic hostility to all sorts of persons of color is as traditional as its Tournament of Roses parade. Three-thousand-word essays about the brutal, unknown history of lynchings in the Golden State would be published in The Atlantic and/or The New Yorker. Al Sharpton, exhibiting a combination of exhaustion and despondency, would be a guest on half a dozen cable TV shows. The woman who threw the egg at Elder would find her picture, her name, and everything she’d ever said on social media scrutinized at great length and on the home pages of the leading news sites. Her appearance would be mocked by late-night comedians. Dozens of reporters would be sent out to learn this woman’s story, to check out where she lived, where she worked, and where she went to school. Remember what happened when a white woman in Central Park told a black man she would mention his race in the course of reporting his threat to her dog on a 911 call? That was a huge nationwide news story, despite having happened the same day as the murder of George Floyd, and even though the people involved were just ordinary New Yorkers — neither of them an ­important candidate a step away from one of the highest offices in the country. If Elder were a Democrat, we’d be told there is a vast and wide-ranging racist plot to stop California from electing its first black governor. The stakes are a bit higher than “white dog lady calls cops on black bird-watcher.” Isn’t our democracy itself imperiled when a white person in a gorilla mask tries to leverage racism against a popular black candidate? To its credit, the Los Angeles Times did mention the attack on Elder, although its headline eluded the nastiness of what occurred in what smacked of victim-blaming: “Larry Elder cuts short Venice homeless encampment tour after hostile confrontation.” If Elder had been a Democrat, I suspect the headline would have been “Racist attacker in gorilla mask lobs egg at Larry Elder.” After burying the lede — the California paper mentioned the attack in the second graf, the race and costume of the person attacking him in the fourth — the report did say “ape characterizations have been used as a racist trope for centuries.” But that was it, the sole reference to racism in the story. The LA Times didn’t bother to investigate Elder’s attacker, nor even provide her name. Please do not insult me by pretending that you do not understand the context and history of black folks being subjected to gorilla references. Please do not tell me that a person wearing a gorilla mask who targeted a Democrat would not be tagged as guilty of the most vicious variety of racism. Please do not tell me that progressives can’t be racist. Pause for a second, just a second, and consider what might have happened in this country if a white person wearing a gorilla mask had nearly hit Barack Obama with an egg during his 2008 campaign. (And then punched a member of his security detail who intervened, as the California woman did.) Do you think perhaps that CNN might have been able to squeeze in a mention or two? Is there any possibility at all that some New York Times columnists might have weighed in on the matter? Do you think The Washington Post might have noticed? SF can't think of a better example of political media bias than this. A black man has an egg thrown at him by a white lady (wearing a gorilla mask) who then literally attacks a black member of his security detail. But there is no mention of this incident ANYWHERE.

Lol not even a conversation. On the hot seat a season after back-to-back state championships with a team that lost 9 starters on offense and 8 starters on defense? Come on IWG, give me something better than that if you're going to stir pot! Obviously 0-4 is not the start any Chatard fan wants to see, but they've been competitive through one of the harder schedules in the state. Roncalli and Cathedral should beat Chatard by 50 this year with the massive difference in size and talent. Better question, is Peebles on the hot seat if Cathedral doesn't cover the -35 spread with his 10 D1 players vs. Chatard's 0? I'm obviously joking, I know Peebles is a great coach, but get outta here with that. Rob Doyle is an awesome coach and Chatard has zero plans of a new head football coach, regardless of how this season turns out. I do agree with your other assessment. Cathedral's front 7 is nasty, and that O'Neil kid is going to be a defensive nightmare for the next 3 years.

Many of the long term posters here, especially those from the old MWC and HNAC, remember MightyJones, real name Kreigh Hook, and his on again off again status on this website. Kreigh hasn't been on here much lately but is still active on the John Harrell forum. We can all attest to the fact that he is Winamac's biggest fan and has been a member of the Warrior basketball program as a statistician for the past decade. Kreigh has had a very rough year. In the past few months he not only lost his mother to cancer, but he also lost his house to a fire on the night of August 27th, which he, coincidentally, found out about after Winamac had defeated Pioneer to hand the Panthers their first HNAC loss. His house had been in his family for roughly 175 years and he lost everything but his mom's ashes in it. Mr. Hook needs your help and has set up a GoFundMe page. It's just a hypothetical situation lol. A NE8 title means nothing if you can have a chance to improve your team and win a state championship. If you don't think the situation would improve both Snider and EN you're crazy.

They wouldn't do something as ridiculous as THROWING away a chance to win the NE8 (forfeit to DeKalb), play Snider and face the chance to get injuries then play Leo (ranked as they are in the top 5 of 4A), and potentially lose any opportunity to win the NE8... All because YOU think it would benefit Snider? SMDH....

They've actually had 2 or 3 state games like that. You can be one of the Top 5 teams in the state and still lose by 3 touchdowns by whoever comes out on top in Indy. I'm just saying it takes a pretty good team to get by Carmel, who beat a very good Snider team, and make it to state. I would say there is a decline in "something" at Penn. I'm just not sure what it is.

Why would East Noble do that, when Leo is next week? I understand the "hope", but sometimes these "fantasy matchups" are totally ridiculous.

I saw this coming. I can't say for sure, but I seriously doubt Tippmann said that. It appears that it's a quote from a sports writer with Outside the Huddle. The comment surprised me a bit as well. I can't imagine a team is more willing to sit out a week versus playing a team of high caliber. And quite frankly, even if Snider did play a small school, they would have done everything they could to keep the score low. They used to have a "no pass" rule against Elmhurst and were very good about pulling starters after halftime against any team they played if the game was getting out of hand.

See if St. X will take a detour on their way to Mishawaka tonight. Snider will give them a much better game than Penn...

I've said since before the start of the season that Chatard is going to be a player in 4A THIS year and their game against Roncalli last week only reinforces that opinion. Extremely young and inexperienced teams like Chatard tend to get better as the year progresses especially playing better teams. Schedule softens considerably after this week and if Chatard can rattle off 4-5 wins heading into the postseason and build some confidence, they are definitely a team I wouldn't want to see.

Concord (2-1) @ Wawasee (0-3) - I was shocked at how small the Warriors team that showed up in Middlebury last week was. I'll be surprised if they put any points on the board again this week and have no reason to believe Concords offense won't have its way tonight. Concord by 35 Goshen (2-1) @ Northwood (1-2) - Goshen may win 1 or 2 more games this season when they play Plymouth and Wawasee, but not this week. I look for the Panthers to win convincingly after their tough fought loss last week in overtime when they went for 2 against Concord and didn't convert. Northwood by 18 Northridge (3-0) @ Plymouth (0-3) - This isn't a Plymouth of old team. It sounds like they're experimenting with a new offense, but it won't matter this week against one of the best defenses in the area. Northridge got some tough injury news this week, but that won't stop them from rolling easily tonight. Northridge by 28 Warsaw (2-1) @ Mishawaka (3-0) - By far the NLC game of the week and my preseason top 2 teams to beat this year. Look for Warsaw to continue getting back on track and battle tonight. Mishawaka may or may not be without their starting senior QB who is arguably the best at what he does in that system in our area, but if he can't go his sophomore brother showed he can step right in and not miss a beat. Should be a battle and give one of these teams a legitimate shot of at least sharing the conference title. I've got to take the Cavemen at home, but wouldn't be shocked to see the Tigers really fight in this one, especially if the older Fisher isn't playing tonight. Mishawaka by 10

Back to topic at hand, anyone hear of possible game for Snider, or will they start prep for Sparty for next week??

Side topic: Texas and Oklahoma are gonna be in a world of hurt for a few years once they join the SEC…with a 16 team conference, you better hope Vandy is one of your annual crossovers/contests. I’ll rarely criticize a person/program for bettering their situation but I think their Swiss cheese defenses are going to take some lumps.

I’ve been involved in HS football for over 1/2 century, and I have been firmly convinced all that time that coaches do not put enough emphasis on special teams. It is hard for kids to be disciplined enough to consistently drive the ball the length of the field to score, without making mistakes. Special teams generate field position advantage that can give the offense short fields, and even big play scores. And special teams is a place where you can offset physical and athletic disadvantages with scheme and ingenuity. If I were a coach, I’d spend a lot of time blocking kicks and running tricks.
