I’ll take portage in a good fought game 28-24 game of week: crown point @ merrillville- My non bias breakdown: crown point: has a big offense line and a good QB/RB combo. They rolled Lowell and beat Andrean by 10 after a late rally by Andrean. Coach buzz has them on the right path. But Andrean did exploit crown point DBs when it came to pass they showed that crown point can’t play man to man because the DBs arent quick enough to keep up with a really athletic athlete. This needs to be a 3 yards and a cloud of dust control the clock game against a fast athletic defense that crown point hasn’t seen yet. And they haven’t been able to live ball against in 3 years. merrillville: Justin Marshall has proven this year and last year to be a game changer. Senior QB Jaylen Thomas is getting more comfortable each game running the offense. Merrillville has to get the pass game going because there not gonna win a run bs run game with crown point. Merrillville has to much talent! And is to athletic to not control this game after the 1st qtr. prediction: merrillville gets the pass game going and a good balanced rush attack. They also have there defense show up if everyone is healthy and they shut crown point down for most the game. merrillville gets 2 turnovers and that’s the difference in the game merrillville 35-21

I doubt many - if any - Catholics are attending Covenant. It's an Independent Christian Church-affiliated school connected to Chapel Rock Christian Church. But the families who aren't as concerned about the religious part and simply want their kids to go to a private/smaller school - especially Protestants - might be more likely to choose Covenant than Ritter (but would have chosen Ritter if it were the only private-school option on the westside with a football team, as it once was). Catholics will go to Catholic schools - and I can see a lot of Westside Catholics possibly moving over to Chatard or Cathedral, but for non-Catholic families, Covenant now has emerged as an option. Ritter canceled due to a lack of available players.

I'm not there yet with CP. Let's see how they do in the DAC vs other 6A and 5A squads. Are they better than last year...possibly. They have always had big kids but not elite level talent at skill positions. What I saw Friday night has not changed my opinion in that regard. CP will beat similar DAC opponents to them but vs more athletic teams like Merrillville and MC it will be a challenge. Time will tell.

I'm a PLAC guy, so I don't have any dog in the fight. But I've seen both Tell City and Forest Park play, so I'll say I'm going with TC over FP. TC is a very physical team. I was very impressed with their D-Line. They're not as talented as they have been in the past few years, but they are still a respectable team. Forest Park is a well-coached team, but I just don't think they have the physicality to hang with TC over 4 quarters. To me their QB was their top athlete, but he went down with an injury last week. If he is back for this one, it may be an interesting match up as he has an ability to extend plays that may give TC trouble.

Carroll could potentially play Homestead at semi-state. Highly doubtful though. Homestead has to go through Fishers, HSE, Westfield, and Carmel. Temptation said he'd buy me a pizza every week for a year if that comes to fruition.

I know nothing about this situation. But, I hate the “you have to be specifically committed to one sport” mindset. It's best for kids to play as many sports as they want and not be forced to choose one during off seasons. If I'm a football coach and a kid is going to miss some summer work to go to wrestling camp, I'm glad he is doing something. It's still going to help his football.

I'm reminded of the interview from 50 years ago: Reporter: Coach, in your wildest dreams did you ever think you'd win this game? Coach: Son, my wildest dreams have nothing to do with football. Similarly my greatest weekend ever has nothing to do with football. 😁

College is expensive. It makes sense for a parent to shop around their OMG! Athlete child to a school/program that will give them the most exposure, and a chance at an athletic scholarship.

If that’s what the kid wants to do, why shouldn’t he be able to do that? And it’s only “tampering” if you define it as such. If my kid is a math whiz, why shouldn’t he be able to go to high school A, which has a great math teacher? And if that math teacher switches to another school, why shouldn’t my kid be able to follow him/her? One of the rationales for open enrollment was that schools would end up competing with one another for students. As a result, they would have to step up their game to compete successfully, and the students would benefit. Why do we always think athletics should be immune to that type of reasoning?

The downfall at Ritter is self-inflicted. The previous head coach thought Ritter was winning championships because of him and not the players. The principal now President enabled him for years. The school took for granted that families would continue to send their kids to Ritter. I could go and on. Ritter had a chance once Coach Hunt resigned to hire a former player and coach who might of been able to turn it around. It still would of been a challenge. The president of Ritter chose otherwise. I feel for Coach Purcell as none of this is his doing. The Ritter administration has gotten just what it wanted. Ritter will not have a football team in the near future.
