As a coach, you have a responsibility to support your student athletes if you as a coach feel that you have a player who is deserving for an opportunity to represent their respective regions. I can only speak for Region 4, you have no shot to make the team if you nominate a player and then no show the meeting. Even if you send an assistant, that will be received well. Another PET PEEVE, SHOW UP to meetings, even when you do NOT have a kid you want to nominate, thats the responsibility of the IFCA member representing the school you work for. Just don't show up when you think you have a kid worthy. cringe worthy stuff there imo

Regardless of the story, don’t you think this is all way over done? I mean at some point think about how ridiculous this all is. Over high school sports. Kids make mistakes, adults make mistakes. Does that mean every personal associated with that school or community is that particular way? This is idiotic. I used to love the MIC and travel to many games each season. I am saddened by the events from the past couple years to the dismantling of it. I cannot believe the biggest and best football schools in Indy are choosing to stray away from one particular school. This is a disaster for indianapolis football and it is dangerous for the IHSAA. I really hope things can get solved in the near future. Very sad days for Indy metro football right now.

An old professor used the saying often, don't kill a fly with a cannon. Deal with whatever incident that brought this on and move on. Keep the games scheduled. Canceling EVERY contest is too much. If every school canceled games for issues they have had to deal with froma school, there would be a lot of open dates for a lot of programs. One school near CG comes to mind, rhymes with Bart n Bill 😄 I hope there is a better resolution to this than the current one.

Carmel doesn’t want to travel to the south side. This was the first best excuse to drop CG. Unfortunate since this is one of the top match ups in almost every sport.

That may be the case, but often the mom's of priests are often a strong contributing factor to their following in that vocation. It's one of the reasons that the current bishop fully supports girls being altar servers. As a youth coach, we realized that, typically, the most important aspect to getting a kid into football and keeping them there was engaging and convincing the moms. I think the gender shortcoming argument tends to one on shaky ground. Standard argument that I've heard against girls playing the sport is the physicality of the game. There's may be some merit to that as you get high up in the gameplay, although I think there are some guys on teams that would get their clocks cleaned by some girls that might play the game. At the youth level; however, I think the differences are less defined and might just provide fertile ground for setting the hook for folks that might eventually be ripe for candidacy for officiating.

So is Carmel now attempting to distance itself from CG, prompting a move back to the MIC? (Worth thinking about...) Also, are they (and others) attempting to paint a picture that CG has a culture problem or are these isolated incidents that are coincidental?

I will say in my travels with my kid during the recruiting process, Miami of Ohio was my favorite school. I loved the two, facilities were really nice, just a neat place.

Region 5 showed up big this year like usual. Voting also goes a lot faster now that we've done it on a google form electronically the last few years. It's always one of my favorite region meetings of the year as we usually have 4 mini clinics as well. Always great to see so much representation.

The Munster football community is mourning the passing this morning of Tom Largus. A great player for the Mustangs in the 70s, Tom was an assistant coach at Munster for decades. A member of the IFCA Region 1 Hall of Fame, Tom was the type of guy that everyone liked. Never heard anyone say a bad word about him. Godspeed, Coach.

Answering questions regarding the VL roster from the other thread.... Lincoln actually graduated 2 seniors from their secondary...and pass defense was without a doubt the weakness of the '22 squad, especially late in the season. That's something they are going to have to shore up if they hope to reach the upper tier of the conference. They do return the entire front seven including guys like Keller, Hambrick, and Patton. Offensively they return 6, and you could even say 7 depending on the formation. The O-line graduated a couple good seniors but returns Daniel Nash who was arguably the best of the group. McCrary returns at RB (Jackson Johnson was the listed starter in '22 but split carries). Receiver is where Lincoln will have to develop some younger guys at all 3 spots.

For the 20 years I have been in Region 4 and IFCA, our meetings have been on Pro Bowl Sunday, starts at at 11 normal folk time, 12pm must really suck to live on time, and wrapped up easily by mid afternoon.

Most of them would probably answer "yes." Half those guys would be working a job that pays 60k per year versus the millions that they earned.

Either way, this study isn't be judged in a court of law, rather the court of public opinion. And it's not a good look for the NFL or football in general.

First of all, recognize that the gigantic selection bias makes this study scientifically invalid as “proof” of many of the sweeping conclusions attributed to it. If someone concludes that a large percentage of NFL players have or will develop CTE on the basis of this study, well, I’d like to have a crack at them on the witness stand. My guess is that whatever $$ the League has to spend on healthcare for these players will be a minuscule percentage of what those retired veterans earned for the League and its current players.

There is another way to look at this. There are very few occupations/avocations that do not have long term physical effects. Know any old carpenters or bricklayers who don’t have chronic back issues or arthritis? It’s an occupational hazard, now well-documented. As to whether it’s worth the risk, that’s an individual choice.
