I have long railed against ESPN/NCAA for bringing college games to Friday nights, yea I’m looking at you IU. Now the NFL is getting in the act. This exact play occurred in the closing moments of a playoff game several years ago. The crew got it right … and were regularly downvoted by the losing coach for years afterward as a result. Because the foul occurred after the down had ended, and they were short of the line to gain after 4th down, the ball goes over. The 15 yd. penalty against the defense is then enforced from the dead ball spot. 1st & 10 after enforcement for Team B.

Please. Despite Merrillville having 47 D1 players on their roster every year, they are annually the most overrated team in Indiana high school football. Warren has the better win over Snider in comparing to Crown Point beating the paper champion Merrillville. Hell, from now on I will refer to Merrillville as the Notre Dame of Indiana high school football

Moore didn't lose to a directional school. Michigan lost to a legitimate top team.

Dangerfield had an outstanding game, but he didn't get many downs off. It's best to have multiple running backs. Owen Peterson also had an outstanding game. I don't question the FG. The defense should be able to hold 'em for 1:17. Another one of the crazy kickoffs went OOB and gave St. X another 15 yards. What's up with the kickoffs?

At times the D looked really good. Several 3 and outs for the game. Logansport's two offensive scores came on shorter fields and one came after a quick strike pass. With that said, both offensive scores came on fast drives which should be a red flag for a defense. LCC also gave up an early score on a blocked punt returned for a TD. Special teams for LCC were an Achilles heel Friday. Blocked punt for a returned for a TD, extra point bounced off the goal post, and FG blocked. That's a net 11 points worth of pressure taken off of the Logansport offense which help keep them hanging around longer. Yes, the regular punter was out in street clothes for the game, but that blocked punt wasn't on the punter. At least one field goal hold and one extra point hold weren't clean either. Those are going to end up costing a game later in the season if not addressed. Offense was hot and cold. To be fair, LCC was without its top receiver, but in the Ritter game that pitch-catch stat wasn't all that good downfield either. The screens, however, were quite effective ... both in the Ritter game as well as the Logansport game. Running game seemed hit and miss, but more so miss on the guard dives. Off tackle provided more success, but for some reason it wasn't utilized as much. Took LCC a couple of possessions early on in the game to finally settle down. Halftime score was 17 - 7, but likely should have been 24-7 and, but for a blocked punt, 24-0. Logansport did a nice job keeping the Knights to a single score in the second half and that lack of offensive performance put more pressure on LCC's defense. The defense was able to stiffen up and, helped by several Logansport illegal shift calls, kept an upset from happening although Loganport had the ball three different times in the last seven minutes of the game. LCC will be able to ill-afford giving teams like Andrean or Adams Central three possessions in the last 7 minutes of the game with no points to counter those possessions and survive post season. I don't know the possession clock balance, but I would guess that time of possession favored Logansport. In the past that hasn't been an issue for LCC because they've typically used a couple of minutes to score and then let the opponent burn 8 minutes before turning the ball back over to the Knights who would then take another couple of minutes to score again. When the defense spends 8 minutes on the field, the offense has got to make their two minutes on the field count to let the defense have some flexibility before they head back on the field again for another 8-minute stint. In the end, a win is a win and Logansport played a solid game. The Berries could have come out in the second half and laid an egg, but they stayed in it the whole way, even when a late-game interception made it look like the game was done. LCC stiffened up when they had to at the end to preserve the win. I'll chalk LCC's performance up to the fact that they really didn't play a Week 2 game, had their top receiver and punter out, were on the road, and were playing a scrappy 4A team. Former LCC head coach, Kevin O'Shea, and Twin Lakes visits LaRocca next week coming off a 14-7 win over Tipton. O'Shea, even though he's been gone for a while, has seen a variation of this current LCC team before, so hopefully LCC will have tightened up the offense a bit by this weekend.

I thought I would add that South's JV team which went unbeaten last season, has picked up where they left off and are 2-0 on the season after beating THN in Terre Haute, 21-6. They opened the season with a 29-14 win over Col. East, with the Martinsville game being cancelled with the varsity tilt being finished on Saturday after the weather delay. The freshman team which was unbeaten but tied last season, is not off to a good start and they got thrashed by Col East 41-0 and then had their games against Martinsville and THN canceled with no explanation of why the THN game was cancelled which was to be played at South.

Ryan Day went undefeated and won the B10 his first season. Ohio State also had insanely better on-field talent than Sherrone Moore so no I didn’t feel the same way. If Michigan had 5* at every position I probably wouldn’t have the same feelings.

They won’t see an offense like Texas the rest of the year but their lack of playmakers and inept QB play is going to keep almost every game close. Will come down to Moore’s ability to coach. I’m guessing after this season a good portion of the Michigan faithful is going to hope the NCAA comes down hard on Moore in his connection to the Stalions case that forces Michigan’s hand.

Ranking 6A is a challenge. After Brownsburg, 2-6 is a crapshoot, as is 9-13. Snider, Carroll, Fishers, Noblesville, and Lawrence North all worthy of cracking the Top 10, but there can only be two.

So many bad plays......all around today, and the trend continues of embarrassing home upsets by teams that should have been put away. Seeing comments, most of the focus is on the offense. I want to focus on the defense. I have felt as long as he has been there that Golden's defense has had issues. The scheme is flawed. It also looks like they make zero adjustments to address something, or someone who has been beating the defense. They make 2 or 3 good plays every set of 4 downs, but continually give up one play that keeps a drive alive. Way too many open receivers; the QB was able to escape and gain yards. And why Golden continually blitzes a safety who NEVER gets to the QB is beyond me. I almost forgot to add bad tackling and missed tackling was a problem as well.

What about the children?

It’s noteworthy that the study is based on self reports of concussions, not medically-diagnosed concussions.

I once fired a clock operator at halftime … of a playoff game … found out it was a nun.

Many years ago I was working a game at North Judson. As I gave the ready for play signal, a bat landed on the ground about 5 yds. in front of me. Sure enough, they snapped the ball and the QB rolled toward me … and the bat. I kept one eye on the QB and one eye on the bat as the play ran. Somehow, the bat escaped being trampled and flew away before the next play. At that time, the local public TV station, WYIN, broadcast a game each week on tape delay. I was able to get home in time to watch the replay, and the bat showed up great. And no, I did not throw a flag for an “illegal bat.”

Who gets fired first: Sherron Moore or Marcus Freeman? The obvious answer should be Marcus Freeman but something tells me Michigan isn’t going to hang on to a bad investment long. Both are in over their head.
