I think the CAL team was out of reach for us this year. Hunter doesn't get hurt on the second drive and our line stays healthy, maybe we make it closer by a score or two, but I don't see how we could have beat them without something crazy happening. Would really love to see 2023 Chatard vs 2024 CAL. I'd give the edge to 2023 Chatard but not by much. Who knows...

I was at the Ohio St/IU game and all the OSU fans around us started buying tickets towards the end of the 3rd quarter. Meteor wasn't an option.

Sagarin (your favorite), has IU at #11 and Army at #51. I think IU comes within 14 points of Notre Dame. I keep saying I'd rather see a one loss MAC team rather than a three loss SEC team. If you lose three times, you're uninteresting. I guess the only caveat to that would be losing to three Top 15 teams by less than a touchdown each. Sixteen team playoff, no bye weeks. Just seed the best teams 1-16 and don't penalize the independents.

This to me is the big question mark. I was not necessarily surprised by the change, but that breaks up a relatively stable group of "experienced" coaches in the SIAC. 1. Goebel - 28 years 2. Hurt - 19 years 3. Hurley - 17 years 4. Salters - 8 years 5. Paridaen - 7 years 6. Lewis - 6 years (now open) 7. Brunson - 5 years 8. Sutton - 5 years 9. Mullen - 4 years 10. Artis - 2 years I want to say it will be a wide open conference race next year. But I have thought the same the last few years and the winner has been 9-0 every year since 2020.

Interesting proposal....not that my opinion means much, but really struggle with Boise and ASU getting byes. I think the whole concept of conference championship games will need to be evaluated as well. Not only can they end of being disadvantages to the teams playing in them, asking much out of fan bases to travel that much in Dec.

The CAL game is one I'd like to have back. I'm not saying we would necessarily win it, but I think we are more competitive in a rematch. Cathedral and Chatard got nothing on these guys--they have dorms! Indiana Catholics need to step it up! But to your point, it was said long before the playoffs: 1. Sectional 32 is better than the ENTIRE north 2. Whoever wins 32 wins state.

Fair enough. That is why I asked what your criteria is for significance. When it comes to this game between Indiana and Notre Dame. I personally am and always will be a Notre Dame fan, so I will be cheering on the Irish no matter what. Indiana has been fun to watch through the season when I have had the chance to watch them. At the risk of being proved wrong I think Notre Dame will have the upper hand in the trenches both Offensively and Defensively and that is where it will be decided. I will eat my crow if Indiana proves me wrong.

I think it's the right number. Bracket would look a whole lot better going forward if you scrape the 5th highest CC automatic qualifier and eliminated first round byes for the 4 highest rated conference champions. Seed the field based on the final rankings 1-12.

After yesterday's debacle I just don't care anymore. You would think that most of the players wouldn't just lie down like that against the 49'ers, especially when most of them got their way with Eberflus's firing. No, they will end up with a 4-13 record. The only solace I can take is that the Colt's in Manning's first season were 3-13, and then they started to take off from there. Let's hope for the same for young Mr. Williams.

That’s a really big part of it. There was a time when the Gary schools were formidable football programs. Same with Hammond. The decline in the steel industry over the last 50 yrs., with the corresponding negative effect on steel support industries, resulted in huge population declines and population shifts in urban NWI. Changing demographics is also a big part of it. The Hispanic population has increased significantly. But, as @Muda69 has pointed out many times, Hispanic athletes tend to gravitate toward sports other than football. To me, the mystery is whether the population boom south of US 30 is going to translate into athletic success. St. John, Dyer, Crown Point, Cedar Lake, all are experiencing housing booms, many of which are move-ins fleeing the People’s Republic of Chicagoland. Schools like Crown Point, Lake Central, Hanover Central, Lowell, and of course, Andrean, should benefit. Their potential path is similar to places like Center Grove and Westfield. Notice I said “potential.”

Fans from the state of Indiana, especially those who aren't alumni, have the freedom to root for whoever they want to. They were spoiled for years by having the #1 brand in football, and depending on the decade, the #1 brand in basketball. I hate to tell you Temp, but there are fans all over the country who gravitate toward all teams in their respective state. Our fans are no different. Do you think IU and Notre Dame care? Of course not, it's the fans who support the universities more so than the alumni. So the more the merrier.

HH only loss was to a 3Peat private school outta Louisville. I saw this, this morning and thought about this thread. HH absolutely beat the brakes off their Indiana opponents this year. Jett will be the front runner for next years Mr. Football. Yall thought because he wasn’t on the big recruiting boards like some of the FW opponents players were that it was gonna be a dog walk. It was too, for the Patriots. North 3a was not up to par with Sectional 32. I’d take Memorial and Gibson Southern to both beat Luers, heck maybe even Southridge in a close one. Congrats to both schools and the players and staff for making it. But yall Luers fans are something else. Hopefully this humbled you a little and next time you’ll respect your opponent and their fan base. And don’t come in here saying HH fans are being poor winners when yall were talking ALL the smack before kickoff. Give it. Take it.

I heard a comment from someone once about school superintendents that went something like, “When you hire a person who is new(er) to school administration as a school admin, they are so worried about keeping their salary that they’ll do anything a parent wants at the threat of being taken to the school board, instead of doing what’s best for the school/kids”

The kind of administration willing to fire a coach over parents, is the same kind of administration that is afraid to discipline those same kids.. because of their parents.

Yep, most of the Hispanic community is apathetic about two out of the three "traditional" boy's high schools sports, those being basketball and football. They tend to embrace soccer, baseball, and wrestling.
