  1. Parents should focus on parenting and leave the coaching to coaches. Maybe, juusssttt maybe, some young good coaches would stay around these small schools if politics and agendas of parents and school boards would stay out of it..... just my thoughts on the situation....

  4. Between stuff like this, cutting polling stations in some states, etc., I wouldn't be surprised if they start charging you for parking your car in the lot where you vote. You'd think for something that is considered a cornerstone of American society, we'd find ways to get a lot more folks involved in it from all angles.

  8. This is not a knock on the Allen kid at all, but from just following things on social media, I don't see how he would have time to play basketball. It seems like he is doing something every weekend (combine, visit, etc.) and more power to him. Take the scholarship from the school that is the best fit and hopefully won't treat him like a piece of meat, get the degree and see what doors open after that.

  9. Kind of reminds me of that unawareness vibe that Tommy gave off when he was being taken to be made. Completely unaware ... right up until he realized that he wasn't getting made. Hopefully, these guys aren't visiting with folks like Jong-un, al-Assad, Putin, Bin Salman, Xi, etc. with that unawareness.

  10. Yeah, when it happened, it was news for one day ... it didn't get new legs until folks started trying to discredit the story. It could certainly be a guy trying to give his character new life on a show where the character was likely to be cut, but like I said, I look at that sentencing of that guy who killed a person with a sword because he wanted to start a race war and I figure it's better off giving a wide berth on the story until more details become available. If he's manufacturing a story, then he should be held accountable with charges. At the same time, given that this kind of thing happens far to frequently, I'm reticent to write it off quickly as fictitious without more details from investigating officials. Incidentally, did you see the line in the article where the killer's lawyer addresses, indirectly, one of the memes posted on GID? Recall the one about Trump not being a racist aka "worst racist ever" because of all of the things he'd apparently done for minorities? Of course it didn't address his birther stuff or his Central Park Five activity or his housing discrimination suits, etc. In that article I posted above, Jackson's lawyer says that his client had marched with family members to protest racial injustice, had served honorably alongside Blacks in the military, and had never committed a crime before. Kind of makes that, "I can't be a racist because I have Black friends thing" fly by the wayside.

  12. JQWL, Knowing some of the challenges you have faced over the last few years, thanks for persevering and continuing to offer the opportunity to the young men of CCHS. My own son, though never a starter, is still applying life skills that he learned at WW. If just one young man learns the value of teamwork and that he has the ability to overcome challenges, you have performed you assignment well. Coaches coach, players play, fans cheer!

  15. Trump Wants To Raid an Asset Forfeiture Black-Box Fund To Build His Border Wall: http://reason.com/blog/2019/02/15/the-asset-forfeiture-fund-trump-wants-to In response to public outrage, the IRS announced in 2014 it was changing its asset forfeiture policies to only pursue cases where there is other evidence of criminal activity. The IRS has previously released some limited data on structuring cases to the Institute for Justice, which leads them to believe the Treasury Department is intentionally stonewalling them. "We know that they have this information, and we know that they can give it up, but they don't want to give us the entire database," says Jennifer McDonald, a senior research analyst at the Institute for Justice, "which leads us to believe that there is something they don't want us to know about these funds." Mr. Trump stealing money from a fund of stolen money/assets. Beautiful.

  16. Most coaches don't like talking about their teams but I'll do it for all the fans we have on here. Last season we finished with 23 kids. 12 of those were seniors so we initially had 11 coming back. Of those 11, one moved away before we had our banquet so I was looking at 10 kids that had finished last season. I've been recruiting pretty hard and as of now, I've had 50 kids tell me they plan to play next year. Which, in reality I'll probably get 35 of those to actually play when the season starts. And of those 35, 25 will have never played or not since youth but I'll take it. It's a much better situation than last season to start with. So when someone asks me what my goal is, my goal is to play an entire JV season. No one seems to know for sure when the last time that happened here and if we could win a handful of games on Friday night to go along with that I'd be tickled. We have to find a QB, a FB, and a RB we can count on. Keith Brooks might end up being QB. He will be a sophomore. Right now he's 6-5 and 175. Really good athlete, just needs to develop some quickness. Nolan Barker played RB a lot last year but will needs to be more consistent. He's got good size at 6-2, 195 and he's decently strong but not going to run away from anyone right now. Preston Coleman is our top returning rusher and receiver. Last year he split time between football and tennis so I never felt he got consistent practice and would be much better if he didn't play tennis. But kids like tennis I suppose. Preston has decent size at 6-0, 155 and is a good athlete. We bring back 2 OL with experience. Garrett Stout 5-9, 190 started at center all year for us and T.J. Donnelly started every game at tackle minus the ones he was out with an injury. TJ is 6-2, 215 down about 25 pounds from last year. Outside of those 2, we are going to have to find some linemen. Defensively, we graduated all of our defensive backs and linebackers. Keith Brooks started at the end of the year at OLB and probably will again this season. We bring back several defensive linemen. Zach Carlisle started at NT until he tore his ACL and MCL and meniscus week 7. He should be ready to go. He's got some size at 6-4, 410. Nolan Barker, TJ Donnelly, and Garrett Stout all started at times last year. Stout will probably move back to LB and Barker may too depending on who we will have. Other than them, we will have to find some guys that want to play and are willing to learn. It's hard to project other spots because you never truly know what a kid will look like until they get out there.

  17. Just saw this article on what the Bishop Dwenger players did for their state final opponents after learning of some hardships on the Evansville Central team. https://www.courierpress.com/story/sports/high-school/2019/02/12/central-players-get-donation-fort-wayne-team-lost-state/2847410002/ Nicely done.

  18. I plan on contending more in the pick 'em this coming year than I did last year. And if I find myself at the bottom again, I'll just fudge the scores since I normally tally them up!
