  2. As originally conceived, the tax system had one purpose: raising operating funds for government-provided services. But then lawmakers realized they could influence behavior by using taxes to incentivize - or disincentivize - economic decision-making. So, we got things like the investment tax credit. Then they went one step further and applied the “incentive” theory of taxation to more social decision-making, e.g., cigarettes, alcohol, etc. Now, taxation policy in this country bears little resemblance to the original system designed to fund government services. Incentivizing decision-making through tax policy is just another way government messes with the free market.

  6. This is a quality Div. 1 program from Ohio. A great measuring stick for CE. Central lost in the state semifinal to Colerain last season. http://www.pctigerfootball.com/history.html. I don’t know what they have coming back, but I’d bet the Olympians will have their hands full.

  9. Author and Grand Master Gene Wolfe, 1931-2019: https://www.tor.com/2019/04/15/gene-wolfe-in-memoriam-1931-2019/ Wolfe went on to write over 30 novels, with his best best-known work, The Book of The New Sun, spanning 1980-1983. The series is a tetralogy set in the Vancian Dying Earth subgenre, and follows the journey of Severian, a member of the Guild of Torturers, after he is exiled for the sin of mercy. Over the course of the series the books won British Science Fiction, World Fantasy, British Fantasy, Locus, Nebula, and Campbell Memorial Awards. In 1998 poll, the readers of Locus magazine considered the series as a single entry and ranked it third in a poll of fantasy novels published before 1990, following only The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Wolfe’s fans include Michael Swanwick, Neil Gaiman, Patrick O’Leary, Ursula K. Le Guin, and many, many more, and he was praised for his exciting prose and depth of character. Asked by editor Damon Knight to name his biggest influences, he replied: “G. K. Chesterton and Marks’ [Standard] Handbook for [Mechanical] Engineers.” In 2015 The New Yorker published this profile of Wolfe by Peter Bebergal, in which the two discussed his decades-long career—it’s well worth a read. Wolfe won the Edward E. Smith Memorial Award in 1989, the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 1996, and was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2012, The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America named him its 29th SFWA Grand Master. Wolfe is survived by his daughters Madeleine (Dan) Fellers, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Teri (Alan) Goulding, Woodridge, Illinois, son, Matthew Wolfe, Atlanta, Georgia and 3 granddaughters, Rebecca (Spizzirri), Elizabeth (Goulding) and Alison (Goulding). He leaves behind an impressive body of work, but nonetheless, he will be dearly missed. The Book of The New Sun is an impressive work, and one of my favorites. Mr. Wolfe was truly an American Icon. He will be missed.

  16. Bernie Sanders Is a Millionaire. That’s Great!: https://reason.com/2019/04/15/bernie-sanders-is-a-millionaire-thats-great/ Congratulations to the capitalist Mr. Sanders on the success of his book and his subsequent millionaire status. Now which of our GID socialists out there will automatically discount Mr. Sanders as a potential POTUS due to his capitalist success?

  17. SF predicted back that when the Mayor started posturing like the VP was a problem for him when as Governor because he came out as gay, that would not be a wise move for the Mayor. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those of us in this area know how the former Governor treated the Mayor, before and after he came out, and how the Mayor was able to work with him and now Governor Holcomb was impressive, more impressive than most of the former Mayors of South Bend. The Mayor to his credit got a lot accomplished, but would have never been able to do that without help from the State level. Him making these moves now to find favor within the DNC and the younger voters (IMHO) will come back to bite him and that is where I think the VP relationship will go. SF thinks his mistake is assuming that any Christian is going to hate him for being gay. Christians like myself who I feel make up the larger christian voting block can easily forgive what we consider sin. I believe it's between him and God, and it's his choice. Him having the line of thinking that God made him that way and advertising that belief will hurt him more in the bible belt than just being gay. I think THAT is where the DNC wants him to be, and he is falling into that position easily.

  19. "But they are doing it as well!!" That is your only comment? What are the current batch of uni-party Democrats, liberals, progressives, and socialists doing to stop this tide of spending the USA into oblivion? Initiatives like the Green New Deal sure don't seem to be it.
