  1. Absolutely would love to see EC, but realistically probably would never happen. With the big/small split in the EIAC gives EC the chance to play their rivals, Roncalli, GCCL team or two, and Harrison. I think EC is upgrading their athletic program across the board, would be a great fit other than geographically. South Dearborn has been talked about, better fit geographically but a bit of downgrade athletically. I don’t see BHSN adding anything of value to the conference, other than a rival for BNL. For the HHC Bloomington would be our Terre Haute. Columbus North would be the logical choice, but it’ll never happen C’mon man, I’m tryna maintain a facade here.

  3. I worked a lot of games for those two schools. They were my favorite places to work for many reasons. Just two great, classy programs.

  4. Clark wasn’t the QB until second half of the MC game when the previous starter got hurt. Add in the fact Valpo will always be heavy run and his numbers look a lot better. Kid made big time throws throughout their run.

  5. complete homer pick but Marshall Kmiecik of New Prairie has already put together a career that'll be talked about for along time and he still has a year left. Very underrated player as he probably is getting hardly any looks from the next level. Kid is just a gamer and someone that knows who to get the ball too and when to do it. If the game is on the line, he's one that you want on your team 24-5 as a starter 2,395 passing yards with 27 TDs (21 yard average) 2,388 rushing yards with 30 TDs (6.4 yard average) 2 sectionals, 2 regionals, 1 semi-state titles and of course the trip to indy last year

  6. Tanner Boyd Gibson Southern. was 3A Jr all state last year don’t know where on the list he should be but he should be on the list for top QBs in the state. see no reason to think Coach Hart wouldn’t have the QB at GS prepared to perform as a top QB in the state on a yearly basis. 11 years in and he is 5/5 on all state QBs

  7. I don't think that Conference Indiana will fall through anytime soon. One of the positives that has come out of a smaller conference is that the team is able to schedule games against teams like Roncalli, Bishop Chatard, Decatur Central, Gibson Southern (Brady Allen years), and Cathedral. The coaching staff at Columbus North has been trying to schedule tougher competition to prepare the team for post season. It's challenging being one of the smallest 6A schools in the state. Our coaches increased the level of competition to our preseason scrimmage schedule. We faced Whiteland (Runner up), West Lafayette, Peoria High (Illinois Runner Up), Warren Central, Pike, Fishers, Mount Vernon. Again, I believe the coaching staff's focus has been to prepare for the big juggernaut schools/programs that we end up facing in the post season. With Center Grove being in our sectional our kids have to get used to playing that type of program.

  8. The problem with the EIAC is that it’s shrinking in student population size which allows East Central to be head and shoulders above everyone else. That 3A/4A split they had isn’t an accurate split anymore because Franklin County and South Dearborn fell to 3A. Aside from East Central, the only other 4A school is Connersville. If East Central is upgrading athletics across the board then I feel like they’re going to outgrow the EIAC. Unfortunately for them, they don’t really have a big school conference in that part of the state that would allow for respectable travel times. Therefore, due to their proximity to Cincinnati, I could see them going independent at some point. They keep their EIAC rivals on the schedule, as well as Roncalli and Harrison, and then add more Ohio teams if needed.

  9. You need to go dance around Bulleitt Stadium. Why don’t you meet us this fall? At least I had the balls to go talk to FCs coaching staff.

  10. Sometimes your better off being a fan of the game itself instead of putting all your eggs in one basket. I get it though, I can see Penn fans getting restless. It's like Notre Dame, fans expect a certain quality of play after decades of prosperity. Penn always had, and probably still does, have one of the best fan bases in the state. They would bring 2500 fans to Spuller Stadium.

  11. Many years ago, South Bend used to hold a Summer festival in July that included all sorts of athletic events, including an all star game of area football players. I got our crew to officiate one of the games. Figured it’d be a nice, no pressure, way to get in some field time in the Summer. Back then there weren’t the opportunities to work in the Summer like there are now. Well, early in the proceedings one of the players spit on an opponent and there commenced a bench clearing brawl — one of only 3 in which I was involved in 40 seasons.

  12. I’m going to disagree on a couple of points as someone who is heavily involved with “a” high school all star game. I believe they do bring value to the athletes and their families as a nice way experience to end you high school career. I’ve been thru it as a parent, a coach, and now as they doing all the grunt work behind the scenes. I am a firm believer in them and we work very hard to make it a good experience for the players and their families. This has NEVER been about making money. We make enough to cover our expenses, which are sizable, and have enough left over for seed for our winter coaches clinic. Kids are always going opt out for whatever reason and that’s OK, it gives an option to another deserving player. Our game has been around longer than (insert stud name here) and it will be around after they don’t show up. The IFCA will survive this just fine and come back next year with a great game. You had a perfect storm of knuckleheads one year, move on.

  13. I watched all of this last night on video. I think the kids simply emulate what they see on Sat and Sun and on ESPN nightly. Trash talking....all the over the top attitude. It got to be about every play where was someone shoving someone. I thought is was ridiculous... possibly your last game and you wanna turn it into a street brawl. I felt bad for the kids just playin the game..and to win and represent their school. I don't wanna name names or numbers but there were a handful that just seemed wanted to start things. that extra shove...and mouth runnin. I expect some of it.. naturally with motors running... but I'm glad the officials did what they did. Clearly it was going to escalate to the point of a true brawl. Truly.. I think the only way to reel this type of showing is to warn both teams ahead of time... that it isn't gonna be tolerated. A few ejections and 15 yard penalties negating big plays would surely make a point.... wouldn't it? maybe not these days.

  14. I didn't attend in person, but watched the stream and it was sad. It didn't take a behavioral specialist to see what players were instigating much of the issues, and the matter may have been avoided by simply benching them early on. Whether the coaches had 3 days or three years, its pretty easy to take a kid's helmet and tell him to enjoy the rest of the game from the sidelines.

  15. Not sure how they get to 6-3 with an opening stretch of Brownsburg, Big Moe, North, Carroll and Homestead. They could legitimately start the season 0-5.

  17. What would you have the officials do that they didn’t? The way in which officials handle this sort of thing is well established. There is an escalating sequence of responses, which goes like this: Talk to the players. This is something the crew does throughout the game. But it becomes much more focused if things get chippy. Talk to the head coaches. “Coach, your #50 is going to get you in trouble if he keeps up the chirping, shoving, etc.” Hopefully, the coach has a little more influence on the player, and calms him down. Throw the flag. Talk can only get you so far. If talking doesn’t work, the flag usually does. Disqualify the offenders. This is absolutely a last resort. I have some pretty good sources (not anyone on last night’s crew), and understand there was a disqualification for targeting against the North early on — which, by all accounts, was exactly the right call. But it continued, and the coaches didn’t even sit offending players for a series after a personal foul or unsportsmanlike conduct foul. There is only so much the officials can do … and my sources tell me the crew did everything they could, but got little cooperation from the coaching staffs. Was that the targeting foul committed against the South QB? The offender was disqualified, as the Referee judged it to be a flagrant personal foul.
