NFHS has changed the rule, you may now spike it from the Shotgun formation to kill the clock https://www.nfhs.org/articles/additional-timing-changes-on-play-clock-approved-in-high-school-football-rules/ Two changes to Rule 7 – Snapping, Handling and Passing the Ball – were approved by the committee. The exception in Rule 7-5-2 regarding an illegal forward pass being a foul was expanded. Previously, it was legal to conserve time only by intentionally throwing the ball forward to the ground immediately after receiving a direct hand-to-hand snap. The committee expanded the exception to permit a player positioned directly behind the center (shotgun formation) to intentionally ground the ball.3 points

To be honest, I’m getting sick to death of kids transferring or thinking and talking about transferring. Just play at the school you were supposed to play at growing up. If your family does actually happen to move for a good reason then play at the new school. This AAU basketball mentality of getting to choose where you want to play or who you want to play with makes me sick and is not how high school football should be.2 points

I can promise you, none of those scholarships had anything to do with being an athlete. Once I went back there and coached for three years, this confirmed it because I can't tell you how many times I'd call up a person in our Financial Aid office and ask them if there was anything extra available for them to apply for, etc. and be told that was all that was available. But I'll submit to your statement that I am sure it varies student to student, school to school. My main point was, do not let sticker prices of D3 schools in the state of Indiana scare ANYONE away from possibly attending. Many of those schools have a number of financial aid possibilities/offerings that can make the overall cost very competitive against the public state schools within the state. Also - while I am on my soap box - to any current seniors and/or their parents reading this - PLEASE check in with your local county's community foundation and apply to as many/all of those scholarships you can. Even if you don't fit the exact criteria, it's possible there are NO other qualified candidates as well! I'll never forget my parents making me fill out no less than 25 different scholarship applications (I was so tired or writing most of the same things over and over again), but I probably received an extra $5,000 or so in various scholarships (ranging from $100 - $1,500 each). For example, the Kosciusko County Community Foundation has over 100 scholarships avaiable and $500,000 to award to students in Kosciusko County every year!2 points

this is the best post in this thread Turning down an FBS offer to walk on is probably not a great move. But if money is not an issue (and with some families, sometimes that is the case!) it's not unheard of. The thing most don't know is the scholarship offer percentage to each athlete. It is likely to be very good at an FCS school. Maybe even a full ride. But it may only be 50%. Walking on at IU may actually be cheaper than playing d2, d3, or NAIA. Making a blanket statement that it's a bad idea is just uneducated.2 points

No impact at smaller schools will be seen. Fake news !!1 point

So then, why are you afraid of typing your own opinion instead of hiding behind a meme that isn't factual. Not smart enough to articulate your own thoughts?1 point

For the life of me, I cannot understand why so many people are so eager to post before school makes announcements. It is so baffling.1 point

Now, if we could just get them to allow the QB to throw the ball away when scrambling, I think we would be on to something!1 point

I disagree, however only time will tell. Allen never said anything about tackling dummies. He is trying to build a program which has never experienced a five year period of sustained success. He is taking a grassroots approach and, even as a black and gold bleeding Purdue fan, I appreciate his efforts. FCS, DII, NAIA, and DIII football in Indiana are fine and will remain so! But I guess we will find out.1 point

It is easy to say in retrospect that it should have been done then. However, the school has given it quite an adequate amount of time and data by waiting until now to justify the move. I agree with you that it is a bold move and one that could absolutely pay off well for the school and its athletic programs. The article mentioned both of them as a possibility. But it said only if a spot opens up. It is hard to see that happening with either conference any time soon. Both Madison and Jennings County were recently in discussions to make a move to the EIAC, but JC declined to make a move, leaving Madison out as well because the EIAC wanted both. They are currently an 8 team league, with a 3a/4a split of four teams each. EIAC makes a lot of sense as far as enrollment is concerned. The MSC makes sense geographically, but are nearly at max capacity in football and I can't see teams wanting no out of conference opponent. In the mean time, they will operate as an independent, which gives them a lot of freedom and perhaps friendly scheduling will allow them to bolster participation rates with some success. As we have seen with this move and with others in the past several years, conference affiliations must change as demographics surrounding schools do. Competitive balance is an issue, but it makes no sense for a school to remain in a conference in which they are not competitive in any sport, boys or girls. I think football has driven many of the changes recently, but Madison made this decision as a whole, which was wise on their part to not be short sighted in regard to one sport.1 point

Nothing in your reply addresses the point I made. You rip them regularly for fake news, yet have no interest in fact checking yourself. Agreeing with the quote is one thing. But your repeated posting of it with it being attributed to Patton makes you no different than anyone you are critical of regrading fake news. What is also hypocritical is that in one post, you make fun of people for posting fake news without checking facts, then make fun of them for taking the time to fact check something. Make fun of liberals all you want, but the reality is you are not very effective at promoting conservative views. The one sided blindness you accuse the left of is the same lens you use when posting about Trump and conservative views.1 point

Trump has definitely created a boom in Fact Checker jobs. I'm worried about the crash if he doesn't get re-elected. Thousands of jobs lost.1 point

This is the same model that Coach Frost is using at Nebraska and that Nebraska used in the 80s & 90s. The idea is to build a strong walk-on program, and get a few quality players out of it, but more importantly build excitement and a mindset in Indiana High School athletes that they WANT TO stay home and DREAM of playing for IU growing up.1 point

As long as conferences are based primarily on scheduling convenience and geographic proximity, rather than competitive reasons, I think conferences in general - and especially 10 school conferences — are bad for football. The inability to schedule out of conference games that might be more competitive detracts from the quality of football generally, a cause that I thought you were championing.1 point

Seymour, East, BNL, JC, Madison would have been gone six years ago if they could have found a sixth. One of the main components of Seymour leaving the conference is no longer a factor. I don't think the athletic administration ever had any serious interest in leaving anyway. The problem is not what most think, it's not really a competitive balance issue, the river schools are notoriously bad travelers, except when they have a decent basketball team. And before everyone starts in on SC or Charlestown, SC was approached six years ago and had no interest. I realize a new AD, but I don't see any reason for them to leave their situation. My guess is in the short term the HHC will continue on as a seven school conference, Bloomington North is a possible replacement, but those Tuesday night trips from the river to the north side of Bloomington are going to be a killer. In Madison's situation I think leaving the conference with no exit strategy is a bad idea. The idea of being an independent in football is a recipe for a lot of travel and worse ass whoopins. I think in strictly football terms, Madison leaving is a plus for the HHC schools, it gives them another non-conference game and allows teams to get a quality opponent or a win, which ever their situation dictates.-1 points

Those who suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome choose to believe confirmed liars such as James Clapper, John Brennan and Fake News outlets like New York Times, USA Today, NBC and Time. Those with common sense are more inclined to believe an outlet with a 100% accuracy rate who has never been proven wrong.-1 points
