Coach (Checking For Concussion): "Smith, what day is it?" Smith: "Gameday!" Coach: "He's OK to play." 😀4 points

Ok, so I donated and was looking forward to getting rid of those pesky advertisements. But, I have to tell ya, Jen from "meet Christian singles" is definitely smoking hot!3 points

I'm not okay with the All Lives Matter "movement" because it's not an actual movement. It was a knee jerk reaction to the BLM movement. Part of it was a misunderstanding, part of it was intentional to deliberately discredit the BLM movement. It has roots in racism and ignorance.2 points

Heard on the radio this morning that 32 non-football playing schools have expressed interest.2 points

Sorry coach, I have to disagree with that. As far as dues to the association, the law pre dates rtw as far as teachers associations collecting from everyone whether they are a member or not. I want to say that somewhere in the mid to late 80’s, Indiana had a law that did not allow that. Choose to join or not is a personal choice, but there are a LOT of people across the state that take a lot of their own time to advocate for all the teachers in their districts. Having been in your spot and having served in multiple roles, I know full well how difficult the work is.2 points

Preposterous. If small school football is that far beneath you, disregard it and move on. No one is forcing you to watch/comment on us small town folks who support kids in an attempt to give them an opportunity to compete and become better, more well rounded young men (and women, I've seen a few girls play here in recent years). If a community wants to and is able to support a program, let them, if not, that is fine, but we "neanderthals" do not appreciate or need you descending from on high telling us how to best support our kids and our communities. High school football is not about producing "more talent" than our neighboring states or for "the next level." As a coach, that is the furthest thing from my mind. If a student-athlete has the capacity to compete at the next level, I/we support that pursuit, but my focus is typically on the student-athlete who needs football because he doesn't have much else to motivate him. But sure, go ahead and let's tell a community that our state's overall "product" trumps their willingness and desire to provide opportunity for their student-athletes that they see fit. Rant over.1 point

Dead on the money. Also, Munster has 2 Hall of Famers- John Friend and Leroy Marsh - and since there have only been 3 coaches in program history, the Mustangs hold the distinction of having the highest percentage of head coaches in the HOF.1 point

It would be nice to see if Blackhawk Christian, Canterbury, Hamilton, some of the Lake... Christians stick with their soccer winners or pick up 8 man if it comes to fruition... Smith Academy in FW, and any other schools that I'm forgetting. Remote locations? In Indiana? Come on. Obviously that didn't quote correctly. OOPS!1 point

BLM means that they matter just as much as other lives, not MORE. All lives matter is just a racist spin on BLM.1 point

Interesting and great news, IMO. I wonder if the sticking point with many non-football playing schools have been numbers or $$? I've never priced it, but I would think cost to outfit 20-30 players could be prohibitive, but I think I read somewhere they might (or already have) a grant? That would go a long way.1 point

Nor is science a popularity contest. And the idea that Dr. Fauci is a spokesperson for the vaccine industry is, of course, ludicrous. Of course, he is pro-vaccine. Show me a highly regarded immunologist who isn’t. But he’s been the Director of NIAID since Reagan was President. None of us knew his name until 6 months ago. That’s a pretty lousy industry spokesperson. As far as a vaccine for SARS-CoV-2, Dr. Fauci has been frequently misquoted and misrepresented on that subject by those with a political agenda. See, e.g., https://www.factcheck.org/2020/06/meme-misrepresents-faucis-position-on-vaccine-trials/.1 point

Unfortunately, the response will be “knee-jerk” just as every response has been to literally EVERYTHING these last few months. It will take only one school to have those “”25” positive cases” and it will begin the cascade and ultimately the avalanche of school shutdowns. I think we have societally lost the ability to accept (or understand) the measured risk of everyday life in general.....and that isn’t to say that COVID doesn’t constitute an unacceptable risk....just that societally, we tend not to accept any risk from something new to our experience anymore. If, in fact, we do have football with fans in the stands, it’s likely I will be there but I will be damned uncomfortable about it (but my wife will be going regardless so I might as well get sick “with her” rather than “from her”). All that said, I’m not sure there will be fans in the stands but rather there will be video feeds. To be honest, I’d be down with paying the HS for an in-house broadcast to offset ticket and concession sales losses....although I’d prefer a free webcast. Just as a note, unlike many high schools, Chatard does not have an internal webcast of their games....or traditional radio coverage like Cathedral and Roncalli in Indy. This might push every HS in the direction of live internet broadcasts....which I would find appealing.1 point

I too am politically agnostic in terms of this virus. If "cases" shut downs schools and or sports in Indiana, that is just a sad state of affairs. We had an "outbreak" in our area after some Memorial day graduation parties. Folks who suspected they might have been exposed got tested (I estimate about 200), 6 kids (give or take) came out positive. Coincidentally, those 6 kids had prolonged face to face contact with a known positive. Those kids quarantined at home and to my knowledge no one in their immediate or extended families became sick. All 6 kids have had colds that were harder on them than COVID-19. If we can't manage these types of "cases" in HS sports we might as well just hang up the prospect of doing anything and shut it all down now. My fear is the knee jerk reactions that are going to take place when some school "X" with 800-1000 kids has 25 positive "cases" in one week at some point. There will be nutjobs in that community, no matter where it is, calling for the shutdown of sports, the school or both. We have to be able to manage a situation like that and it should be technically manageable. Large factories are getting through it all over the state.....but profits are at stake. Our kids will be safe. Those at risk should take extraordinary steps to manage their personal risk. I am a 49 year old fat guy with an autoimmune disease...I will take care of me. Get the kids back to life. I have to side with the American Academy of Pediatrics on this one, kids need to be in school. We can do football in Indiana as long as people don't panic when the "cases" come, because they will. Big College programs are managing the "cases" just fine. The real question is the FANS right?....how is attendance going to work, and how do we protect those at risk? This is the key question IMHO at every level Pro, College and HS. What protocols will be put into place? At the end of the day the NFL and College (FBS) will play because the of folks we can call "those willing to take the risk" will attend these events and in fact they will attend them in numbers that will keep profits at "near normal" levels. Will the attendance of these events cause a spike in "cases"? Probably to some degree yes. What will death and ICU rates do? I don't know but aren't those those really the key statistical factors we should be looking at? Every news cycle we see, X number of players tested positive in this or that pro or college sport. Did we really expect not to see that? Was playing sports at any level really going to be if there were zero "cases"? That is the impression I get from the media and some folks here on GID.1 point

Dann, it is no sin to be ignorant. That simply means uninformed on a particular topic. There are a lot of subjects on which I am ignorant, because I simply don’t have the knowledge. Ignorant does not mean stupid. ”Willful“ ignorance, on the other hand, is something else.1 point
