  1. YEARLY DISCLAIMER: 1. You must make your indiviual region teams 2. D1 and even most D1aa, or FCS will not allow the players to participate 3. Its a REPRESATATIVE ALL STAR GAME: Each team has to be made up of certain number of players from 1a, 2a, and each region must be represented by the quota established 4. Always Really Good HS players get left off each year, but its truly a puzzle the coaches have to put together. There might be an overall better player at a position group, but that player was a 5a player and you need to still fill a 1a spot, so it goes to the 1a player. Just an example, it has been that way since its inception. 2. Agree....there are always kids who for no other reason than attending one of these camps gets a shot at "next level" football. I have volunteered my time at a few of these and it's pretty rewarding personally.

  3. Keep it up Coach. Thank you for offering choices for the kids to get better.

  4. There have been a lot of factors mentioned above. Here are a few other reasons that may be a factor: 1) Parent buy in-Not only do kids have to buy in to the coach and program but the parents must as well. Parents have to shuttle the kids back and forth to practice, workouts, and such until a time that the kid can drive them self. And parents themselves have to want their kids to do well.(you might be shocked to here parents say "my kid won't get in further in life than me" 2) Teacher support-Teachers can have a lot of influence on kids as well. They are speaking to them maybe more that the parents. If a teacher can say to a student try something new like XYZ sport or ABC club they might try it. 3) Opponents attitude towards Pioneer- May teams are beat before they take the field due to their attitude "We can't beat them, why even try!" This could be said by the actual opponent or the opponents parents, or the opponents classmates, etc. You hear it enough and you start to feel it within you.

  5. I'm with you that enrollment figure for this year will be inaccurate, in some cases wildly so, but what would be the solution to the problem? Using old enrollment numbers would in a number of cases be just as inaccurate right? (Given the rapid growth in some areas of the state and the rapid decline in other areas). Just putting it out there as a topic for discussion and generation of ideas.

  8. Congratulations to all players selected. I would add disclaimer 1b. At the regional level, each coach is allowed to nominate 4 (I think) players. Combine that with your other points, and yes there are always deserving players who may not be named.

  11. Agreed. If you are concerned about a money making racket selling false hope, I suggest you head west from Westfield HS and check out Grand Park on a weekend. Plenty of empty promises at a travel soccer or baseball tournament.

  13. What it really means is, the next Indiana Basketball coach, probably sooner than later, will have the largest contract in IU sports history.

  14. The statute hardly “dictates” how states draw Congressional districts. States are now — and should be — free to draw districts in any fashion they want, provided they do not unconstitutionally infringe the principle of “one man, one vote,” i.e., all votes count equally.

  15. Thanks for sharing! Loved going to Bishop Dullaghan camp in high school, and then coached a few years as a college coach and then player at his camps. Great man

  19. Speaking specifically on football.....It was either the spring of 2016 or 2017 (I can't remember) Coach Mike Johnson came down and did a mini clinic for our region. He had moved on to Logansport but he used clips from his athletes at Pioneer. It was excellent. He was very nice, and he answered every question with no hesitance to who might be listening. It was evident that the athletic culture at Pioneer was BOOMING. Fast forward to the fall of '17 we met Pioneer in the semi state game....One of the best teams we put on the field in our time at MC got handled. We had a definite size advantage and even took an early lead before the dam broke. To this day our staff frequently talks about HOW FREAKING HARD that team played, and still use it as a measuring stick. The WHOLE team played so dang hard and fast all night...it was overwhelming. And to top it all off, they were genuinely good kids. Kind between plays, sportsmanlike and tough between the whistles. SO, whats the point?.......Culture keeps you relevant even in years you may not be as talented. Athlete development is part of culture. Years and years of excellence and doing things the right way all ties back to culture. Add a cycle of a great athletic classes and you get what they have. Pioneer has 25 straight winning football seasons....and as long as they fight to maintain that culture, I don't think they'll really ever have a bad year.
