Recall one New Year's eve as a kid in New Orleans when we were at a friend's house ringing in the new year. We were out in front the house shooting off fireworks and my dad had a glass of whiskey. Looked down in his glass and there was a pellet from a shotgun shell at the bottom of the glass My cousins lived around the corner and I wouldn't be surprised if we were "related" to that pellet.

They’re off this week. This team has a good shot to win the SIAC and to make a good tourney run. But, no, they aren’t going to be better than the 2018 team — which, IMO, was up there with the McIntosh-era Panthers and Schiff/Mallory Wildcats as far as recent SIAC teams go. Still amazed they lost in the state finals. I have to think that a healthy Turnbaugh would’ve changed the outcome of that game. WL went deep twice on his backup for early TDs. And MHS still almost came back to win.

Is this a "no practice" week or something? I haven't seen anyone at school in the mornings. It's going to take one heckuva season to convince me they are better than the 2018 Tigers.

Memorial's defense was fast and physical last year. I would expect nothing less of them this year with 10 starters returning. Finding a place to attack them will be difficult for anyone in the SIAC

That's the unintended consequences of NIL. With State and potentially Federal Law stating that the NCAA can't regulate players profiting off their image and likeness, what purpose does the NCAA stand to serve anymore? As you proposed, you'll likely see anywhere from 3-5 super conferences all collude and then collectively form their own league in basketball and football and negotiate their own TV deals and cutting off the heads of the rest of the remaining NCAA member schools. The NCAA as it stands today makes billions of dollars off TV deals for March Madness and the CFB Playoff that they redistribute back to the member schools to fund scholarship programs. Unless you're in one of those super conferences I don't know how you survive? I think you'll start to see many schools go the club model route. In general its bad if you ask me.

@DT - has this been released yet? Just want to make sure I didn't miss it. This is the biggest reason why I could never see Warsaw legitimately leaving the NLC for the SAC. Outside of football, the NLC is a fantastic conference in terms of competition across all sports. I know we all like to talk specifically about football here (obviously), but a conference shift affects all sports in a high school's athletic department. That being said - while I do not believe Warsaw would ever leave the NLC for another existing conference... if (big IF here) schools like Penn, Elkhart, Carroll, Homestead, and Snider came to Warsaw asking to create a new large school conference in Indiana (with the additions of maybe Dwenger, North Side and Northrop or some combination of those 3)... THEN I could MAYBE see Warsaw moving, but even then I am not entirely convinced. Also - another point directly to the title of this thread "... if it intends to be a player in 6A" - who is to say that Warsaw will be in 6A in 5-10 years? While I do not think the Warsaw are is necessarily shrinking, other areas of the state are definitely growing at a faster rate. Based on the previous enrollements, Warsaw was in the bottom 7 of 6A enrollment (#26 in the state at 2,103 students) and about 70 students separate them from where class 5A enrollment starts (#33 FW Northrop at 2,032 students). Pretty soon the NLC could be a conference of 5A/4A only.

Steve Cooley took a Harding program that could barely win a game and had them going toe to toe with the SAC's best.........mid 90's I believe. He really jumpstarted that program before Sherwood Haydock took over. At the time, I viewed him as a state championship caliber coach. I'm not sure how his career went after he left Harding.

Agree. If you're a competitor, don't you want to play someone closer to your level rather than running roughshod over lesser opponents year after year? Once you master one level, time to move up and attempt to master the next. Frankly, I think it shows winning has been emphasized too much when programs would rather run through a tournament trouncing teams not at your level than even risk a loss against a team that can compete with you. That said, I don't think being in 3A has cost Southridge much. Maybe a 2A sectional in 2019. But they got a 3A regional in 2020 rather than a 2A regional.

Warsaw would be a great addition to the SAC. May have to invite Huntington North or Leo to have an even number of teams. At the end of the day though, if the SAC were ever to expand, I could see Leo first, New Haven second, HN third, and Warsaw fourth as priority schools...........mainly for distance reasons.
