Few more Texas games to add to the list that should really be good, and also a nod to a couple smaller schools.... Class 2A, Div. I Crawford (13-0) vs Tolar (13-0) Crawford rank 7 and Tolar 5 in TX coaches poll per Maxpreps. Class 2A, Div. II Mart (13-0) vs. Lovelady (12-0) Mart rank 2 and Lovelady 7 in TX coaches poll per Maxpreps. The school my kids went to played both Crawford and Mart over the years. Mart is the textbook definition of a perennial football powerhouse. Crawford not too far behind. Like CG, they don't rebuild - they reload. Mart spread but can run, balanced offense, insane speed and athleticism year after year. Crawford will punch you in the mouth repeatedly and when you finally commit to defend the run immediately burn you with the long ball. A couple years my kid's teams might have reached the finals if not for one of these two. Class 4A, Div. I China Spring (12-1) vs. Anna (13-0) CS rank 1 and Anna 2 in TX coaches poll per Maxpreps. My youngest played youth football in the China Spring youth system, they got some ballers.

To clarify, the field expands to 12. I wonder if we will see conferences put an end to their championship games? Especially with the coming 12 team playoff. A potential loss in an extra game could put a team in a bind as far as seeding goes, especially with 1st round byes involved.

It’s pretty wild that USC and TCU can and will be punished for losing a bonus game when Ohio State played air. I’m sure we’ll see some wild stuff when the field goes to 8. Especially with seeding.

Not to belittle hoops at Chatard, and hopefully things are improving, but Chatard likely couldn’t have won a 2A sectional during that period. Bumping hoops at Chatard would actually make me consider DT’s call for contraction…at least for hoops.

I would argue that at the lowest levels, (1A-3A) all that has happened is different P/P schools take turns having the advantages. They yo-yo up and down so often there is always a a p/p school there to take up the advantages in population that P/P's afford over smaller public schools. Not the best example of "addressing" the situation. IMHO: There should not be a P/P competing in the 1A tournament. I would argue that a one class "bump" for P/P's, combined with SF for all (public & P/P) with a longer SF adjustment (every 4 instead of every 2) would be a great system.

To me, a kid that carried the ball an average of 34 times a game (excluding the two IPS games where he had a total of 23 carries), lead the state in rushing and his team in TFL and sacks (while only playing 20% of the defensive snaps on the season) was more valuable to his team. The strength of schedule further solidifies that claim. I have nothing bad to say about Bowen, just making my case for my guy.
