  1. Let’s see, ND gets good pub. TSU specifically, and HBCUs in general, get exposure on a national stage they wouldn’t otherwise have + money + a recruiting boost (“look who/where we play”), Marcus Freeman & Eddie George manifest their friendship in a very productive way, do I need to go on? Sounds like a “win” all the way around. Why all the cynicism? Life is not always a zero sum game.

  2. Yes, I can explain it. The IHSAA crapped the bed. Here is how Chatard has fared in the last 25 years (22 of 25 years in 3A, except where noted). Chatard has won the 3A state title in 13 of 22 tournaments over the past 25 years. If that doesn't scream MOVED UP DUE TO SUCCESS FACTOR, I do not know what does. 97-State Champ 98-State Champ 99-Lost in Sect (Roncalli-State Champ) 00-Lost in Sect (Heritage Hills-State Champ) 01-State Champ 02-State Champ 03-State Champ 04-Reg Champ (Andrean-State Champ) 05-Reg Champ (NorthWood-State Champ) 06-State Champ 07-State Champ 08-Reg Champ (Bellmont-State Champ) 09-Reg Champ (West Laf-State Champ) 10-State Champ 11-State Champ 12-State Champ 13-moved up to 4A, won Sect (Andrean-3A State Champ) 14-moved up to 4A, lost in Sect (Tri West-3A State Champ) 15-State Champ 16-Lost in Sect (FW Concordia-State Champ) 17-Sect Champ (Ev Memorial-State Champ) 18-Reg Champ (West Laf-State Champ) 19-State Champ 20-State Champ 21-moved up to 4A, lost in Sect (Gibson So-3A State Champ)

  3. A few changes from what we had expected ... Bishop Chatard listed in Class 3A (instead of success bump to 4A). Adjustment in Culver Academies' enrollment pushes them to 4A. River Forest was on the 2A/3A line, they go up to 3A. 9. The interesting ripple effect of that petition is that Seeger was the smallest 2A, so when Scecina was moved up, Seeger moved to 1A..............and went to back to back State title games, winning one and losing one.

  10. Despite the narratives that we sometimes see on GID about the P/Ps, sometimes those enrollments do indeed drop based on demand. Scecina was 2A for a bit, having won titles back-to-back if I recall correctly, but then numbers put them below the 2A cutoff. They petitioned to remain in 2A for a few years, but then finally went back down into 1A before seeing enrollments climb enough to put them in 2A ... albeit after being SF'd out of 1A. Back in the early 1990s, the Bishop had actually announced the closing of LCC due to waning enrollments and support after a bit over 30 years of operation. An 11th-hour appeal convinced him to keep the doors open.

  11. Accuracy is one thing. Completeness is another. I strive to be both. You’re just miffed that Michigan didn’t do it first. Oh wait, isn’t Appalachian State an HBCU …?

  12. You know, the more i think of this, you come across as a power trip kinda guy. my way or the highway. don't like differing opinions. you can get away with telling me to gfy or gtfoh, but see, if i told you to gfy or gtfoh, you would ban me. ✌️

  13. Be careful. Big brother is always lurking. I think a lot of folks would be interested, depending on the teaching/day job openings. Did Coach retire from his day job too?

  14. No one, or I should say no one in Sectional 28, was surprised when Chatard ended up in 4A in Roncalli's sectional. No one from that sectional will be surprised to see Brebeuf end up in there with Roncalli either. And certainly seeing Chatard back with Guerin. The only thing that would somewhat surprise me, but wouldn't put it past the IHSAA, is finding a way to get LCC into Sectional 28 with Chatard, Guerin, West Lafayette. 😃

  21. You’re not very good at this Bob. Notre Dame’s arrogance is well documented and widely known nationally. Their schedule was soft this past season but it is not their fault. Their rivals sucked and they simply out talented everyone. I am not against playing FCS opponents (1 maximum) as I actually think that power five teams that schedule other power fives in the nonconference are dumb. Why in the hell should Notre Dame care what anyone thinks? Due to their brand, if they run the table they are in and 95% of the time or even in with one loss. Let the talking heads debate that nonsense. I will also say that the SEC scheduling them in week 13 is an absolute joke. Back to my actual point though…ND will get positive publicity for this move which is the sole intent. They didn’t just schedule ANY FCS school, they scheduled an HBCU. In 2022, that’s better publicity than scheduling Alabama.

  22. They were good. We played them in sectionals in 84, and only beat them by 2. They had no one who could really kick, so they went for 2 each time they scored.....and missed each time. A couple years later, I was able to spend some time talking football with Coach Springer. What a great experience that was. Long after he retired, he and my uncle were regulars at the OTB in Indy and were good friends going back to their HS days. I always enjoyed chatting with him when I would meet them there.

  25. Here is the spreadsheet I created. I did it on the fly here at work, and copied the numbers from the IHSAA and John Harrells sites. But there could be some mistakes since I had to manually enter a lot of the info. It gives points for each title won, but it's formulated different from the IHSAA success factor points. It gives 1 point for Sectionals won, 2 points for Regionals won, 3 points for a Semi State, and 4 for winning the state. However it totals all the points for the same season, so if you win State, it's actually giving you 10 points. (1+2+3+4) State runner up would be 6 points (1+2+3) etc..... I didn't have the time to go year by year to just award points on the furthest step a team advanced to. FB SUCCESS POINTS.xlsx

  26. I think you'd have to add Pioneer to that mix. LCC and Pioneer have often been the ones to eliminate each other in sectional or regional play, so despite the strength of program, they sometimes never made it out of sections due to the eventual state champ. Since 2009, the last 13 seasons, LCC and Pioneer have met in post season eight times and eliminated each other ... and in four seasons they were in different classes, so they couldn't meet. In four of those eight seasons, they entered post season as #1/#2 and in another two they were both in the Top 3/4. Pioneer's early exits from post season weren't due to a mishap or weak schedule that caught up with them ... in some cases, they played the state championship game in the first or second game of the post season. Pioneer definitely fits in the pound-for-pound group!

  27. Ev. Memorial has never played in 2A. We were in 3A from 1985 through 2018. In 2019 we became the only 3A to win state in 4A after being bumped because of the SF. And we've always bled blue blood. . . IU hasn't been a blue blood since Calbert Cheaney graduated.
