  1. So we’re comparing “averages” to determine the strength of a class? Not actual championships? Really? So actual championships, as in 4A teams winning 7 out of 10 of the 5A Championships don’t really matter (and 1 of those 3 that wasn’t won by a 4A school was likely won by a Westfield team that was a 6A school by that time)? In 10 years it’s likely only 2 championships in 5A were actually won by a 5A team. I, honestly, can’t see anything more definitive as to how 5A measures up. They were given a “sawed-off” class after complaining about the mega-schools and STILL couldn’t win it 80% of the time. Seems definitive to me. If it’s all about the pulling out your “average” when determining who’s best then why bother? It’s like using Indianapolis Tech if you want to have a conversation about 6A football. Sorry, I’m going to talk about CG, BD, Brownsburg, etc. Maybe, just maybe, THAT mindset is the problem in 5A…to barely be above the “average”. —————————————————————————————————————— As regards East Central, I read somewhere that they were considered the top team in the Cincinnati area at this point. As to whether that was some poll or actually looking at CalPreps, etc. I don’t know. With that, they didn’t just beat Moeller this year, they handled them pretty convincingly. Center Grove barely won on OT. Btw, this East Central team is pretty much the same as last years. Most all their “players” are back. As big a chip on the shoulder as some parts of the state seem to demonstrate by whining about not getting respected, frankly, lightly populated, hillbilly Southeast Indiana gets crapped on by EVERYBODY….especially teams like East Central and Lawrenceburg.

  2. I was in downtown Chicago the weekend of “Crusherfest” in Milwaukee this summer. I damn near made the extra trip just to pay homage to him (and, maybe, hear some tall tales of his years with the “Bruiser) and drink some of Milwaukee’s Finest. https://www.crusherfest.org I also lived in the same apartment complex as Slamming Sammy Menacker (who used to often commentate on Big Time Wrestling”) one summer. The black Speedos were probably a bad call by him at the pool, though. Heck, I did cardiac therapy with Chuck Marlowe.

  3. I believe they are confusing All-Stars and All-State. All-Stars are required to have so many 1A and 2A players on the North/South Teams. There is no minimum on actual region teams. All-State is usually selected based on Sectionals then nominated up from those reps.

  5. For those of you traveling from St Leon, I HIGHLY recommend Ale Emporium after the game. We usually go for the patio after the game. Live music, great food, and ice cold Coca-Colas.

  6. I’m putting together a list of classifications for the scenario of a 32 team 1A and a 32 team 6A. I might just create a new topic thread since it’s not really relevant to the subject of this one. Stay tuned.

  8. What’s your proposal, Donnie? Roll up in a ball and cry? You play the game that is next on the schedule, man… one game at a time! Would Linton be tough if we get the opportunity to play them? Absolutely! Will I be on the track in my short skirt cheering on the team? Absolutely! You know that phrase “Any Given Sunday”? Let’s change that to Friday…Any team has the chance to beat another team…Any Given Friday. If we get to Linton, I’ll take my chances with these boys! Go Cats!

  9. The report also flat out states that approximately 48 extra injuries are caused per year solely because of the use of turf in the NFL. I would say that’s compelling enough reason to not use turf.

  10. “After the ball is ready for play and before the snap begins, no false start shall be made by any A player. It is a false start if: c. Any A player on his line between the snapper and the player on the end of his line, after having placed a hand(s) on or near the ground, moves his hand(s) or makes any quick movement.” So, the TE can pick up. Interior linemen may not.

  11. When did thr conversation even move to this year I'd agree that anyone outside of ec would probably lose to snider this year Hell outside of ec I think 4a is down this year We talking about last year and how the top 4 teams from 4a could snatched a 5a trophy And how in the easiest 5a pool in 50 years snider still managed to choke To add onto this, I could've gone recruiting at the local pilot and found a capable team of taking 5a state last year

  12. I know the feeling, I can't get beyond Carroll shellacking Homestead but then Homestead beat Snider. It's been a wacky season in the SAC.

  13. IFCA All State players are selected by region regardless of class size. The coaches in a specific region get together and nominate their players and give a spiel on why the player is deserving and then all of the coaches vote. When fans wonder why player xyz did not make the team, sometimes it is as simple as the coach didn't show up to represent. Other times it is due to better players at the specific position. Can't speak on the AP process.

  14. I have to say after reading through this, I would have to agree that some type of sectional seeding would be a good idea, for fans. I don't really think that players or coaches care. You just line up and play whoever is next in line. As a former player on a 9-1 team that didn't 'qualify' for the tournament, I like the all-in format. The point system put a lot of 10-0 and 9-1 teams on the sideline without a chance to play in the tourney. A lot of you will also remember the 'cluster' system from the 80s that was an attempt to have teams play each other in a district format to determine who made the tourney. It didn't really work out well and helped lead to the all-in format. I do like the idea of a 32-team 6A and 1A. I would add that the 32 in 1A include the 32 smallest public schools. This is probably not popular, but comparing a rural 1A school to a private school in a metro area is certainly not apples to apples. Of course I would also like to see 8-man football as an option for not just new schools, but for schools that struggle to put 20+ players on the field. That's my $.02. I am willing to step in as the czar as of January of 2024, if the position becomes available.

  16. I’m curious as to how many people on here actually know who Wilbur Snyder is. The young folks have probably never heard of him. Heck, most don’t even know Dick the Bruiser which feels like a crime if you’re a Hoosier.

  18. Here's a link to a study that shows in the NFL shoulder injuries are 9% more likely to occur on turf than grass. https://www.sportsinfosolutions.com/2022/11/08/the-effect-of-turf-on-injuries-in-the-nfl/ Also relevant to this, this study actually shows that contact with ground injuries happen more on turf than natural grass: https://www.the33rdteam.com/category/analysis/analyzing-nfl-injury-frequency-on-grass-vs-turf-fields/ I will also say that many studies have come out saying that mobile QBs actually get hurt at similar rates than 'statue' QBs (with some even saying they get hurt less), this being just one of them: https://www.bruinsportsanalytics.com/post/qb-mobility

  19. Lol this argument is so tiresome. No one is arguing that injuries don't happen on grass. They just happen at lower rates than artificial turf, which has been proven over and over again in studies.

  20. To be honest, Kevin Wright has been dreadful. Not sure what he actually does? Certainly hasn't been very involved in recruiting Central Indiana given his ties. TE room has been bad the last two years after he was hand-gifted Peyton Hendershot. Wright's predecessor put two TE's in the NFL.

  22. In a way both. I'll start with 1A and say LCC and Lutheran are very strong in 1A consistently. If you move both teams up to 2A, I think they make the class stronger. Same can be said about Andrean and Luers for 2A. I think both are strong in the class, but then when they move up they make 3A stronger, not necessarily strong in 3A. In 3A you have Chatard and Memorial(although Memorial is already in 4A), when in 3A very strong, in 4A make the class stronger. The problem in 4A is everything gets log jammed with the privates because they are all in the same sectional so they just beat each other and nobody moves up to 5A to make the class as a whole stronger. So i guess in some cases p/p is the sword, but with success factor eventually find their place to sharpen the sword. You aren't getting that sword sharpening in 5A because Cathedral just ran through it in 2 years and went to 6A and none of the 4A's can make it there.

  23. Lafayette Jeff knew the HCC would be the best conference in the state in 2004. It has taken a few years, but that year is here. Lafayette Jeff couldn't take the heat and had to get out of the HCC.

  24. I think you really have to read the room in this situation. Can you fudge things to kill some time, sure. But not at the expense of making a mockery of the game. It’s not that hard to find a kid who’s shoestrings need tightening up or the odd helmet snap that the kid is having difficulty with…..you can get a fresh 25 if need be.
