  1. Nope. Don’t like this at all. I would never want a coach to be forced to put his starting D back in the game to preserve a point spread. I could see some sort of exception - down 35 at half and receiving the second half kickoff - you get one possession of normal time. Then if still 35 it runs. I also don’t like seeing a team up 27 score a TD and feel like they have to go for 2. 33 points (5 scores) should be enough if reached in the 3rd or 4th.
  2. Home field advantage on grass? I will have to dig up the picture of the field for the Memorial / Brownstown regional game in 2016. A farmer would have been embarrassed with a cow pasture that bad. 😀 (BTW I think the OL/DL decided that game, not the horrible field conditions.)
  3. The biggest ‘mud game’ that comes to mind is 2006 Jasper @ Ev Central in the sectional. Best team Central had in school history (at the time) ended up losing to the Power Pitch of the Wildcats in standing mud. 8-7 final score. I would guess Central wins by 2-3 TD’s on a dry field. It’s the main reason all EVSC schools got turf a year later.
  4. Wouldn't be the first time, amiright?
  5. Rather than rehash the same tired recruiting arguments... The original post asked about Success factor. I think Providence will also move up to 2A based on enrollment. Any idea when new sectionals will come out? At the next IHSAA meeting?
  6. Thanks for posting all these. Hart and Paridaen were both external (although Head Coaches elsewhere). The other five are long-time assistants who were internal candidates earning promotions. I wonder if that is the norm or just the case in SW Indiana this year?
  7. I agree. For example, I just looked at one of the recent posts: This seems tame compared to some of the other stuff. But this still falls into the category of things a site administrator shouldn't post under the username. Just unnecessary, IMO.
  8. Congratulations to Coach Nero. Best of luck in his future *ahem* roles.
  9. Imagine if South Gibson could not do anything until the East Gibson and North Gibson schools could afford it as well. And there's no doubt a certain EVSC is favored over all others when it comes to athletics. It will be even more difficult with transfers.
  10. I've seen plenty claims of "other coaches actively recruiting" immediately, but did not see any actual ones myself. I'm not naive enough to think it hasn't happened in DM's, but that has been going on for years. I just haven't seen any public displays.
  11. Just a guess by me. But Coach Ward has a daughter graduating this May. I think she is going to play volleyball in college. In his statement, he mentioned thanking his daughters for sharing his time with football players. Nothing more than that IMO. https://x.com/BoonvilleSports/status/1899162549439897753
  12. Missed it by that much. Anyone want to subscribe to my newsletter? Follow me for great stock market tips, too! 🙂
  13. About the same level of dumb to think the best pool of HS Football Coach candidates are searching for jobs on Facebook. 🙂
  14. https://www.ihsa.org/Sports-Activities/Football/State-Series-Information-Results?url=/data/fb/enrolln.htm Here is the numeric enrollment. If you go up, there is a way to sort school by alphabet if you would rather look that way.
  15. Two matchups I would love to see: Vincennes Lincoln vs Centralia in girls basketball would put the Alices vs the Orphan Annies. Pekin (IL) vs Eastern (Pekin) - a small school tilt that could be billed WWE style as a ‘loser gives up their town name’ flair.
  16. I think the vast majority of those schools would fall in the lower three classes in Indiana. Mt. Carmel - the town not the Chicago version - was very competitive in the Big 8 and would play in the 3A/4A (out of 8 ) class. Depending on which counties would be annexed, I’m sure Breese Mater Dei and Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin would be schools to deal with, because they’re cheating Catholics too.
  17. If it is week 1, it cannot be an Illinois school. Their ‘week 1’ is Indiana’s week 2.
  18. Isn’t that two straight coaches? Szabo and now Paridaen? Does Warrick county pay better than EVSC?
  19. Welcome to senior night… here’s a student who just started in here in August. Let’s give him a hand for attending 3 schools in 4 years…. Sounds riveting.
  20. They may have great steaks and chops, but no way are they #1 on the list for shrimp cocktails.
  21. As if you needed a reason to be obsessed with the SIAC. 😀
  22. I have no definite insights, but I would guess the decision makers think they need to spread things out. Ahrens was starting to do that towards the end of his coaching tenure there before Lewis was hired. I'm sure seeing HH just down the road have success moving from their traditional wishbone to a spread was a big factor too. They probably think there are athletes in the hallways who don't come out for football because of their style of play.
  23. I would think a HS crew would catch this, but alas it doesn't always happen.
  24. I don't think the conference would entertain a school east of US 231 and north of US 50. I have heard some rumors about the TH's North and South, but I just don't see that happening. When Jasper and VL joined, I think the hope was to quickly add two more of GS, Boonville, Heritage Hills, and Mt Vernon. That never happened. I'm pretty sure the conference was gung-ho on an even number. Either 10 or 12. Not sure if the odd number 9 will be changed.
  25. As with most things, blame the Illinois legislature. Spooked Mt Carmel and they bolted. Could the remaining 5 have survived? Princeton, Washington, Lincoln, Mt Vernon, and Boonville? Or would losing Jasper's gate (aka ticket $$) be too much?
