How bout this scenario

WL on the road to HH, and they win

Guerin Catholic beats Yorktown:

WL would then travel to Guerin for round 2

Chatard on road, beats Brebeuf

North Mont on the road beats Crawfordsville

Chatard would then travel to North Mont for round 2

WL beats Guerin and Chatard beats North Mont......

Both WL and Chatard have equal number of games played on the ROAD, bottom team owns tiebreaker, and there you have it folks, the more unique anomaly, where a team can play and win a sectional title without playing 1 home game.

If that scenario plays out and WL pulls that off, then I say give them the ring and don't worry about playing the rest of the string out.

Of course that is just 1 scenarios and one that may not even come to fruition.

WELL WE ALL KNOW IF THAT HAPPENS THE CHAMPIONSHIP OF SECTIONAL 28 AUTOMATICALLY DEFAULTS TO ROSS-ADE!!!

The proponents of seeding would have us watch a 1 vs 8 opening round game between Chatard and Crawfordsville.

Chatard by 75?

The proponents of seeding AND a qualifying format would likely get to watch a Chatard/Yorktown and Guerin/Brebeuf first round match-up and West Lafayette (and North Mont) would likely be in a completely different bracket and would get to face the winner of this group at the semi-state or state finals where it should rightfully take place. Crawfordsville wouldn't even be in the picture.

Things to ponder....

Im speaking to those who are pushing only for seeding.  Its a bad idea.

Seeding would lead to a qualification system. The IHSAA under the all-in format can justify first round blowouts because of the "luck of the draw". They no longer could if sectionals were seeded appropriately. I've done this exercise the last 3 or 4 years and and you need but 1 or 2 fingers to count the number of upsets that occur where a bottom half rated Sagarin team beats a top half Sagarin team. This theory where every team should be included because "every team starts 0-0 with new life come week 10 has a chance" simply doesn't exist.

But back to the discussion, I think Chatard has the definite advantage in this one. They have a virtual bye round 2 (assuming they beat Brebeuf a second time) while West Lafayette is going to likely face a very solid Guerin team.

I'm hoping the Huskies secret weapon they've been working on in practice pans out, though. A 6'5, 295 lb running back.

Lol, the 1st team defense has some problems tackling him. About 20 yards a pop in practice. I don't know if they're just joking around or actually ever going to try it in a game. May find out tonight in the JV game at Lewis Cass. He's a Freshman.

I think one of the reasons many of the coaches and administrators support the unseeded all-in tournament is the chance you'll draw another weak team in the first round if you are having a bad season. There are a handful of matchups early in the first round where both teams have 2 or fewer wins after 8 weeks. They are ecstatic because now they have a chance for a tournament win. But is that really a great accomplishment? One of them will advance while someone from Brebeuf or Chatard or Cass or Pioneer will be turning in their gear. It's one thing if you get upset in the first round and have to go through that. The format does  ultimately crown a champion, but the means to get there is very flawed in many ways.

You might be hearing from the HC for giving away his top secret inside trick plays.

Not good.

Get better or get used to it (speaking of the 75-0 blowout). The game of life is no different. The football programs that work the hardest win the trophies. The kids with the best grades go to the best schools and get the best jobs. The harder you work in the in the real world, the more likely you will crush your competition. Getting whipped 75-0 is a painful lesson, but it IS a lesson. Don't like it? Feel sorry for the kids? Easy solution. Ten game season. Half the teams make it. Seed the tournament. The regular season should have playoff implications. The undefeated team shouldn't have to travel to winless team..............other states don't understand it, can't believe it, and laugh at it.

Hope Chatard is a victim of home cookin at North Montgomery.  Ultimately, the Trojans will win, but the Chargers will not be intimidated.  50+ pass attempts, some onside kicks, press man coverage, bring 7 every play.  Should be a fun one.  North is the Football version of Loyola Marymount basketball 1988.

You should just be happy your admin kept Tri West out of Chatard and WL sectional so you have a chance at winning one.

Officials are assigned in the tournament. Unless of course the IHSAA is on on the "home cookin" conspiracy.

And have the sectional title game played at a neutral site while you're at it.  Also play the regional and semi-state games at neutral sites as well.  They do in Ohio and it works out well.

Since this is Indiana and the format is locked and loaded for this year...

Sectional 28 will have several great games. Personally, the first game for Chatard should be one of the best opening games in the state next. The first game of the season between these two really doesn't matter as both teams are much more developed and playing at a higher level. Too bad that the top 3A teams who could win state are going to winnow down to just one sole survivor. I believe the sectional 28 winner will win state
