Bud’s old superintendent from North Miami, (who stood a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier) told him he didn’t have what it took to be a head varsity football coach back in the mid 60’s.

He kicked that guy’s keister, as well as most of Sheridan’s opponents the last 60 years.

I have a great memory of going to Sheridan when Linton went up in 2013.  I went up ridiculously early.. they were still in classes when I got there. So I just strolled around the field...took in the sites of Sheridan. .the bell.   Finally just went up to pressbox, set up gear,  computer, and sat.

The door opened and in walked Bud. I had never met him.  He opened up saying he liked my Grid posts "Miner Pride"...and proceeded to talk football for maybe an hour...

We had been decimated in 1998 semistate by Sheridan.  We won both this meeting in 2013 and in Linton 2014.  I felt it was an honor to meet him.

Coach Wright never wanted to leave the Hoosier Conference either but was out voted by other members of the athletic dept back in the day , he wanted to continue to compete against LCC

He also never wanted to old Range Line Conference to end when it did after the 1999 season. Westfield and Zionsville were leaving for the new HCC. Wright was really PO'd at Westfield, because Westfield and Sheridan at the time had I believe the second longest continual rivalry going in Indiana. He really took it out on Westfield when they played for the last time in a non conference game in 2004, 53-7 at Westfield.

That was my freshman year.  The whole school wanted to completely embarrass Westfield for dropping us from their schedule. LOL

I hated it when Heights stopped playing them. I knew it was time, but I still got goosebumps just being at the same game where Bud was coaching. And I saw several games on the old field with the cinder track around it. My dad used to take us back in the 60's.

I've been subbing a lot this school year and I picked up a couple of gigs at Sheridan. I won't be back. The school was highly dysfunctional, poorly run, unorganized, and some of the students were completely out of control. It was the worst rural school I've subbed at, by far.

The football field and facilities were the nicest I've ever seen at a small school, but I'm not sure if they'll even be put to good use in the future.

So they’re just gonna give up on football?

Really?? You would have thought based on the Bud firing (yes, that's what I'm calling it) - that the Admin seem to be "sticklers" for discipline??? Your description seems to describe the opposite?

Maybe you just had a bad day or 2 ....

The kind of administration willing to fire a coach over parents, is the same kind of administration that is afraid to discipline those same kids.. because of their parents.

Nailed it. Your assessment sums up why this job looks like career poison for the next Sheridan coach.

The assessment by Mr. Dolts also sums up about 27 out of 32 member schools and their communities in the 219 (Region 1). I planned to include this, and other things, in another thread that specifically references Region 1 but the door was opened for me here... Lol the catering to parents who don't believe in respect and accountability based on their child's lack of respect and accountability is one of if not THE biggest problem in education today.

No doubt that it sounds like the Administration has, shall we say, not covered themselves in glory, but would this have not been true for whoever the next coach is going to be?  Even if it were a long time Sheridan assistant or a former player, wasn't the transition to whoever is to be next going to be difficult for anyone even under the best of circumstances?  Nobody ever wants to be the guy to follow "the guy" right?

Yes, I agree.

I would not relish a fight against Jon Jones. That being said, I would feel even worse about the situation if I were to crap in his mailbox and kick him in the testicles the day before the fight. Some things are challenging enough without making them even more difficult.

I heard a comment from someone once about school superintendents that went something like, “When you hire a person who is new(er) to school administration as a school admin, they are so worried about keeping their salary that they’ll do anything a parent wants at the threat of being taken to the school board, instead of doing what’s best for the school/kids”

This is one reason I was hoping that Kevin Wright would stick around for a season or two.  A coach like Kevin could take the heat and cushion the blow to the "next" guy.  Unfortunately for Sheridan, he is at Carmel now, and honestly, after seeing how this has all unfolded, I don't blame him.  The Wright family has been a staple in the Sheridan community, but it wouldn't shock me to see all of them fade away after all of this.

This is a job that I think no one wants after this.  It would be hard to fill after Coach Wright left anyway, but now.....I just don't know who we're going to get to take this job.  I wouldn't be shocked to see the AD try to find someone from outside of Indiana, tbh.

That won't do them any favors. The community is mad at the school for this, and now the School Board will likely take just as much blame.

The community is sad, mad, livid, every emotion in the world. He deserved better than this.

Why no "Head Coach Emeritus?"

Dolts, again, connects from long range! Lol this mindset in school administrations is prevalent throughout NWI (and I'm sure the state and nation as a whole) and continues to result in decisions that are not in the best interest of the school(s) and kids in the schools.

Definitely not. On the first day a class was tipping over decks for fun and climbing on them, and on the second day, a student yelled expletives at the principal and I as school let out and the principal did nothing about the situation.

Of course not, but I don't foresee them winning a lot of championships, either, with all of the current disfunction in that school corporation.
