Wondering if any kids have started moving around a bit??  Will some of the Penn overflow head south to Bremen??   Just seems this would be fitting for kids that live such a distance away from Penn but are in Bremen's back yard!!

I'm sure many around the state are already in the works, or pending if you will, they're just waiting to make it official. Especially in the cities with multiple schools in close proximity. Will it all be overblown and not as common as we think, or will the floodgates be open and flooded? I guess we will have to wait and see.

Just seems as if you are a smaller school next to a big one and your opportunity to play Big school football could be limited to senior year that you would go be a solid player at the smaller school.... as to why I mentioned Penn kids to Bremen as an example as that's a perfect scenario.

Some schools that have had open enrollment have already seen this start to happen.  Now with the new rule, I'd expect to see a lot of potential moving about when large schools are near smaller ones.

Probably happening, but we probably won't see the impact of it for a year or two. The rule I believe was mainly to benefit underclassmen transferring, not necessarily upperclassmen so until those kids start to move into their junior and senior year I doubt we see much of an impact unless you have those Freshman and Sophomore that can make an impact early on teams that they are transferring to.

I'm uncertain why many seem to think that your average underclassman/backup at Large School X will walk into playing time at Small School Y simply by virtue of having been at Large School X.

Because some schools do not value loyalty sadly.

I'm questioning the premise that underlies the speculation of underclassmen transfers from large schools to small schools: why would your average 10th grader at Penn be better than your average 10th grader at Bremen, or your average 10th grader at Westfield be better than your average 10th grader at Sheridan?

Who will offer the most NIL money?  😂

I've got $15,000 in quarters (not really) that I just mailed to the Goldsberry household to try to get them to move up North a ways... 🤣

I got that plus a 1988 Toyota Camry to sweeten the deal.  Gibson Southern has already tried that with a girl.  Still dating the GS girl, but still at HH....for now...

Have seen a few transfers coming in to Elkhart and expecting a few more. Mostly kids from Goshen and South Bend.

Last year we had 2 transfers from Mishawaka that helped greatly.

Are you more likely to be a starter at Carroll or Prairie Heights?

I agree, generally, that the probability of starting for a team with 49 rostered players––according to MaxPreps, for what that's worth––is higher than it would be at a school like Carroll, but that general probability also decreases with each additional transfer––if we assume that roster size will remain relatively stable year over year. Probability doesn't do anything to address the question of why we should assume the underclassmen and backups transferring from large schools will be better or more likely to play than those staying at small schools.

It's a numbers game and also a class football game.  You probably aren't going to start as a 215 lb OL at a 6A school, but you can start as a 215 lb OL at a 2A/3A school.  The undersized kids have better opportunity to play at a smaller school.  Just from a sheer numbers perspective.  If Westfield has 140 kids (9-12) and Sheridan has 50... You would have a better opportunity to play/start at Sheridan.

Not sure I understand this... Are you saying that the coach shouldn't play the best player they have but play the player that grew up in the school district?  If coaches don't win, they get fired.

This isn’t pro ball.  What are you teaching kids if all is equal, you play the new kid?  The bright shiny toy?

Indeed.  A kid that has been playing since 3rd grade flag and doesn't miss a summer practice vs the kid that doesn't show to a single summer workout and has his first full pad practice week 1.  I've seen it happen, it shouldn't but it does.  This is high school.

We'll probably know more after these next couple weeks as the schools on nine weeks quarters enter the last quarter. Good time to transition. Also, I doubt the transfer bill takes effect officially until July 1 as most legislation goes into effect then.

Coach is still paid to perform (which is wins).  I didn't say all things are equal.  If Jimmy from Westfield and Jonny from Sheridan are virtually the same kid, then Jonny probably has the advantage from being in the program.  If Jimmy is the better football player, he will play.

Ultimately, you put your best team on the field.  Do you start the senior or the sophomore?  You start the better player, right?  I'm not a fan of the kids (parents) waiting until last minute to transfer when they realize they aren't starting at Westfield, but it will continue to occur.  I think the kid that is just transferring in has to get up to speed on the formations/calls, but when he does (and let's pretend that he is the better football player) he is going to play.

Is week 1 the first week he could "legally" practice?  Was he skipping before then?  A lot to unwrap when looking at ANY kid that moves/transfers.  All programs have had kids move in going back long before I was born (and I'm old!).

As long as a kid is putting in the work once he can officially start why should he be punished?

Sometimes it takes time. And that is ok.  I want kids that are bought in completely.  That goes into who plays for me.

I agree. No matter how long they have been there, as long as they show up when they can and put in effort, they have an equal opportunity to earn playing time in my opinion. Coaches will have to deal with the challenge of prioritizing and weighing different situations when it comes to new kids coming in and kids that have been there for a long time. But when it comes down to it, the best players are going to play, IF they have earned it. If there's a freak athlete or manchild that should be playing, but barely shows up or has a poor attitude towards others, it has not been earned.
