For the second consecutive year, the Lady Miners of Linton take home a state championship. Last year the final score was 70 - 28. The 28 points was a tournament record in a state final as was the 43 point win in a state final. This year (defensively) they were even better by the score of 63 - 25. I said last year I was impressed with the Miners defense but this year I think it was even better. They had 18 steals in the game tonight. They only lost 1 game all year to 4A Bedford North Lawrence so they set a school record for wins and losses. These past 2 years have been a great ride with these ladies. I wish them the best in their futures and thank them for the pleasure it's been to watch them play. I think this is the best team defense I've ever seen at any level, men or women. They were a machine.

Roughly 1350 students at the 3 Adams County high schools. That would be in the upper half of 4A football, but not enough to be 5A. Also, Blackford is another school that has students from the entire county, and they are the only high school serving that county.

I think more SIAC/PAC schools should use "C" teams. In a perfect world, it would be freshmen only. But there's always a few sophomores that really shouldn't play JV because of size or perhaps it's their first year ever playing. In my experience, it's especially true of OL/DL. I would rather see a sophomore who hasn't hit puberty yet get some reps in a C game than sit the bench on Monday nights. That's another thing. Why not play JV/Frosh on Saturday mornings? It's common in other parts of the state but doesn't seem to be popular in SW Indiana.

It may just be up here (NWI). Some schools will do "C-Teams" to ensure all their players are getting playing time. I think it is a great idea. I teach at KV and they had a freshman team last year. IMSC, about 13 players or so. Lowell had a freshman team last year. I do not recall their total #'s. Lake Central had a freshman team, as did Chesterton and Munster. I am going off the teams I officiated for.

We play a full freshman schedule. Sometimes teams will ask if they can have a couple sophomores...but that doesn't happen often. I NEVER hear the word "C team" in Southwest Indiana.

Tri-West (Northwest Hendricks school Corp) is putting in a big facilities upgrade with includes field turf.

The 6A championship game this year was played between 2 teams that would be from your proposed 6A Division 2. Center Grove has been a regular in the state finals and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Westfield make more appearances in the 6A finals. The 5A championship this year was played between a 4A parochial school and a public school with a 6A enrollment. I just don’t think further division of classes is needed. Unless we are talking about adding 8-man football.

The IHSAA exists to conduct athletic competition based on the desire of the consensus of schools. If a preponderance of schools desire a relegations system....it'll happen. You're issue isn't with the IHSAA but school admin and school boards.

Might be an incentive to play a tough schedule, truthfully. That would make you better for the tournament. Maybe teams might sandbag? I don't know. Just spitballing.

As long as the status quo remains, Cathedral will likely be bouncing between 5A and 6A depending on which part of the success factor cycle it's in. All of that undeveloped and rapidly-developing land near Hamilton Town Center feels like Noblesville, but is in the HSE district. HSE has shown a willingness to cap its high schools at a certain enrollment and build new when they grow large. It's likely Carmel won't ever split the high school no matter how big it gets. Gotta keep the swimming title streak alive.

PH FB has been in the sectional championship 2 consecutive years(How they didn't win at leas tone of them blws my mind). PH BB is a statistical favorite to repeat as sectional champion. What other reason was there to consolidate schools? There is absolutely no way it was to save money, because they still operate both buildings, TR as the MS, and Rox as the HS. Additionally they have to bus all of the TR HS students to Rox and the Rox MS students to TR. On top of all that they had to re-brand TWO campuses as well as supply new uniforms for EVERY. SINGLE. SPORT. This has got to be a million dollar consolidation... for what???? The clear advantage was to be absolutely relevant in every sport. This data reflects BB and FB but their VB team has been good, GB, Tennis, etc. In relation to this thread though... the NSF would not have prevented this as both Turkey Run and Rockville competed in 1A in all classes.

Didn't some Parke County schools consolidate to be relevant in Athletics? Is that what the NSF would prevent?

DT back when we put the SF together I brought up the concept of bumping teams down who had not won a playoff game in the four years span, down one level. It garnered virtually zero support in the committee, and died on the spot. There is no appetite from schools to accept such a label, and I doubt the IHSAA has any interest in forcing it upon anyone.
