  1. Kevin Wright at WC comes to mind.....D 1 talent all around, but ran the option game. Brett Favre was an option QB in HS. Percentages alone do not support the thinking of Coach Askew. Something like 6% of HS players play in college; or something like that. Do what is best for the kids you have.

  2. Successful coaches, who don’t ,or haven’t had the unlimited talent pool of certain programs ,always tweak their schemes to take advantage of the resources (students) that come out to play. In my area,Two very successful coaches come to mind, who no longer coach are, ex Columbus East coach and ex Bloomington south coach.

  3. I do recall someone on here saying it would help get high school players more college football playing opportunities if high schools ran offenses that the state college football teams run. As a former HS coach, I say you run what best fits your players strengths. I agree with you. If you are good enough, colleges find you. And…..who exactly is this Coach Askew? Never heard of him.

  6. I live in the Western Boone Community... Where is this "upscale" that you speak of? Have you been to Jamestown? Thorntown? Dover? Advance?

  7. I’m not sure this is news to anyone. I think the bigger issue is the flawed idea of success factor. I don’t believe it turns have nots into haves. It just ends up making the haves battle it out more often. If the IHSAA reeeeally wanted to put forth the effort to “fix “classifications then they would use socioeconomics in the the formula. That won’t happen, nor do I know that would really actually fix anything. It might just make it more convoluted. I think once upon a time I thought success factor would be this magical thing that helped. I think if anything a 2 year cycle prevents public schools from getting the momentum to be year in year out contenders. DT brings up Hobart… well yes a public school dynasty will never happen again like that for many reasons but success factor I think isn’t helping that. So Hobart makes it to semi- state 2 years ago, last year makes it to state and gets taken to the wood shed by a very good Roncalli team( who gets an amazing Chatatd team now in sectionals for both their efforts). Meanwhile Hobart has some nice teams coming up and I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon. This year they are a probable favorite in the North to make it again. But they are stacking classes now so a deep run the following year can get them a move up to 5A where they can have moderate success and then hopefully 2 years later they can drop back down and be great for 2 more years before maybe moving up again etc. So without the classifications being made with socioeconomic status factoring in along with enrollment, (which I don’t have a model for just thinking out loud could by moot) and without at least a 4 year success factor built in you are just not likely to see another public school dynasty unless it’s a mega . Those calling for pp to have their own state.. save it won’t happen maybe more teams will go Cathedral route and play up but it’s not likely. Just build your program from youth level up and go compete and eliminate or amend success factor complaining about things being unfair doesn’t win championships, just go compete.

  8. How do you explain randomness? There are endless explanations, none of which can be “proved” with any degree of certainty.

  9. I disagree high school football coaches job is to win and build a respectable program not send kids to the next level. If you are good enough you will make on the next level regardless of what offense you run.

  11. This is why some programs never come out of mediocracy. Coaches who can’t adjust. And there are several.

  12. Must be first day on forum, welcome. That’s how these posts go. DT makes an outlandish statement, it’s get disproven, and we move on.

  13. I'm really interested how this happens. How does the IHSAA just allow it? I mean, if they move there...I guess it's ok. But how can this not be for athletic reasons at some level?

  17. There was no health issues when he stepped down in 2017. He was ready for a change and has been looking at different opportunities since then. He also wanted to be able to watch his youngest son play at Manchester. His youngest just graduated. I talked with Reggie yesterday and he is excited about this new challenge. He has hit the ground running with his new program. I for one am excited to see what Reggie does. Good Luck Brother.

  18. Often wrong, but never in doubt. i don’t know the answer. But I know it’s not simple. There are far too many variables involved.

  19. I certainly would assume so…especially this far into the offseason. this is exciting news though. My senior year of high school was Coach Harts 1st season as coach for the football team (2012?) and let me tell you the difference in atmosphere in the school once he arrived immediately changed….for all sports… he brought an energy to the football team and it spread like wildfire in the best way. GS sports really became a pride and joy for the community and many of the kids and it definitely shows still beyond that, I think this shows another level of commitment to the Gibson Southern community….it seems like every year there are a few talking heads that ask if Coach Hart will ever consider leaving GS for reitz or a college program or some other big school gig..and this kinda just makes me think all of that can be put to rest. Taking the position as AD, at least in my opinion, means he is going to be sticking around for a while…and that’s always good news

  27. Adams Central has one of the nicest grass fields regardless of class (do 4a and above have grass anymore??) in the state. We played there in the 2016 1A Semistate and after 14 weeks of games it was still beautiful. I would take a nice grass field over turf any day.

  28. This topic makes me appreciate schools like Bishop Dwenger who predominantly work within their Catholic pipeline. I do credit Cathedral for going out and scheduling the best football programs they can find, but they should be battle testing themselves for the 6A tournament annually. What is the point of playing 5a ball other than stocking their trophy case? Having lots of trophies is fun, but the 6A champion will always be acknowledged as the best team in Indiana.

  29. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2021/05/14/ihsaa-basketball-shot-clock-indiana-future-let-debate-begin-nfhs/5090844001/ (Note: story is behind a paywall) I personally am against the shot clock being used in Indiana High School Basketball, frankly it's not needed. Would like to hear other opinions.....................
