  1. Ahh, SEL. Government's attempt to mandate what students should think and feel. https://nancyebailey.com/2018/03/19/social-emotional-learning-the-dark-side/ https://www.theadvocates.org/2019/03/social-emotional-learning-is-bad-news-for-educators-and-families/ https://pioneerinstitute.org/featured/new-study-finds-multiple-problems-with-push-for-social-emotional-learning-in-k-12-education/ https://www.frc.org/events/programming-our-children-the-social-engineering-agenda-of-social-emotional-learning https://www.theepochtimes.com/trading-academics-for-far-left-social-emotional-learning_3466722.html https://www.heartland.org/news-opinion/news/emotional-learning-will-be-the-downfall-of-society

  2. I guess its the university's perogative if they choose to change their nickname....first I have heard of a connection to the Crusades being so negative that nicknames must be scrapped, but so be it. But a logo with a lighthouse in a landlocked city? This long time Lutheran is stuggling a little with the university's ability to brand. Irishman...your post about Univ of Tulsa led me to look it up their nickname origin. Interesting.....I guess Golden Tornadoes were taken at the time by Georgia Tech. https://tulsaworld.com/origins-of-the-golden-hurricane-nickname/article_9bab7080-630a-573e-9643-c7a8717f1564.html

  3. As a Hatchet alum/fan, I'd welcome the opportunity to have Vincennes Lincoln back on the schedule each year. Losing them and Jasper to the SIAC effectively cut out our two biggest rivals (although, we are 3-63 all-time against Jasper with no wins since 1979...to be honest not much of a rivalry now that I've typed that out) We've got a trophy game with North Daviess HS (1A) and they're trying to push a new trophy rivalry with Pike Central, with whom we own a 36-4 record against with no losses since 2004. Just my opinion, but we should be able to beat a 1A school year in and year out (13-7 all-time against them so obviously we don't, but that should be the expectation) and PC is...well PC. Nothing against them at all and I'd love to see our former Coach build something over there, but for the time being I believe the record speaks for itself. While our record vs Vincennes wasn't the greatest (20-61-4 all-time), it was still a game that the community really took a lot of pride in. Easy travel right across Hwy 50, two historic stadiums that were WPA projects; many times families lined up against each other on these fields. A win over Lincoln could really inject some pride and positivity, regardless of our final season record. If there was any way we could schedule that game again, I'd love to see it happen.

  4. So make 6A a class of four schools because you won't be happy until then.

  5. Technically you would still have a huge gap between the smallest in 6A to the largest. Is it really the same weight class then? Again, there will always be cut offs that will make others say it’s not fair. It’s just how it is.

  6. Substance only please. Dumbest contribution to this thread yet.

  7. There is always going to be a reason to change or people to feel frustrated. It is never going to fully make everyone happy. 2,200 or 2,000 students does not make a difference in my opinion. I get your reasoning, but I just don’t think this will affect things all that much. No point to do this in my opinion. If this actually goes through, then you will have schools who argue and complain that they are in the bottom of 6A when Carmel, BD, Warren, and North Central all have massive enrollments. Should we just make a class of the top 8 schools because their enrollments are that much more? Absolutely not. You can’t make accommodations for everyone.

  8. So being critical of an educational theory based on "feelings" makes one a fundamentalist Christian. Got it. Better that than an avowed socialist. https://www.libertarianism.org/columns/compulsory-education-social-control

  9. Beacons, just like Guardians, won't really instill fear in any opponents. But Valpo is a private school and they can do what they want, I just wonder if this move will have any effect on alumni donations.

  10. The purple for parents group is a group of fundamentalist christians who want to drastically alter what is taught in public schools, and make the claim that SEL is a way to teach CRT....which both equate to teaching marxism. The parents have a facebook page where they post a lot of stuff. Rokita appeared with them in Kosciusko County, as this article states. He was at their meeting in Wabash as well. There is video of him being there on their page. He was scheduled to be at the meeting held in New Haven....not sure if he showed up there. I believe he was at a meeting in Brownsburg with them as well. He seems to have avoided them in Fishers and Carmel. http://www.inkfreenews.com/2021/07/09/rokita-claims-critical-race-theory-part-of-social-emotional-learning-draft/

  11. They were coordinators with Dinan being the offensive guru n Tippman being the firey defensive leader. When Isaacs(sp) left the decision came down to these two outstanding gentlemen..both brought their own spin on how to approach the sidelines and both had HC capabilities...imo they had mutual respect for one another just stunk to lose one yet I can respect his decision on wanting to lead his own program.

  12. I would characterize AG Rokita as a politician looking for a cause. His tenure as AG has been highlighted by: Getting slapped from pillar to post by every federal judge who looks at these unconstitutional abortion laws the General Assembly keeps passing. Unsuccessfully went to court to try and keep the Governor from filing a lawsuit on his own. Now investigating whether Valparaiso University — which was so incompetent they had to close their law school because no one would go to it — is in league with Chinese Communists in order to influence the minds of Hoosiers. He’s either a whack job, or desperately seeking a springboard to higher office — or both.

  15. Basketball is an embarrassment and I’m not just talking about the team on the floor. We probably have the worst gym in the state. I wish we could tear it down and start again. I hate watching games there.

  16. Good luck to everyone’s teams this weekend if they’re in a scrimmage. Hope everyone stays healthy.

  18. I don't see my old *original HS changing anytime soon: Lutheran HS North Crusaders (MO) .... Now where I graduated from, Warren Central DRAGONS (KY)... that has a LOT more implied history behind the reason for the >nickname> 🤬

  19. There are two formats approved and the coaches much choose one of them. One involves kicking plays and the other doesn't. Both have sets for "reserves". It doesn't say varsity #2, JV, or freshmen. I'm sure that varies. It's not something the officials worry or care about. It seems like the coaches have always talked through this before the scrimmage. I've sensed they usually have JV in one segment and freshmen on the other. The varsity sets may mix 1s and 2s.

  20. This is just the humble option of a fan not associated with Gibson Southern High School, but I think that our Coach and Admin enjoy the flexibility that some might consider more of a burden.

  21. Move Vincennes to the PAC problem solved. SIAC would then have 1 non-conference game to work with and the PAC teams would only have to deal with two. From a football perspective moving to the PAC might be a better fit for the Alices.

  22. Personally I think it also depends on the makeup of your team. If you have a ton of returning starters, you may play them for a series and then use it to develop your #2s. On the other hand, if you have a whole new team, then you might be more likely to use your starters for a larger portion since they often need every rep that they can get.

  23. I don't know. I support the same one I did when I was in high school, supported it when my oldest kids went to high school there, and now my youngest 2 kids go to school with the grandchildren of my classmates. I'm still supporting them.

  25. CG is what...2600 students? He wants to be sheltered from them but it's okay for CG to play Carmel. This is the typical BS I've read on this forum for years. Surprised to see a coach say the same thing.
