  1. And it is hard for us old guys to find a job these days. There are openings but districts wont pay for an "Experienced Coach" Or if you want to be an assistant you get, "I would love to hire you but the admin says we cannot afford you." Also if you teach in a "good paying district" you cannot go home to your wife and say good news! I am now the head coach. it only cost me 30 to 40 grand in teaching salary. There are a lot of coaches post 50 who can still get it done. And they are experienced educators.

  2. I don't think most people understand that most schools are somewhat limited when hiring a new HC with what teaching positions the school has open. Coaches typically need a teaching salary to make a move, and schools have budgets, teachers unions, and the constant nagging questions of other sport coaches and parents of "why did football get X,Y, or Z?" It's not always as simple as "the best coach that applies gets the job".

  3. I like the OVER 45.5 ND 31 Penn St. 28 haven't got a feeling on other game Too much money, don't see it, but I do see this happening down the road in next 10 years or less a full divorce from NCAA of the P4 and a 2 tier system, like DIVISION 1A, where its the power 4 playing for the opportunity to make the playoffs, wether 12 team or 16, but most make sense to get to 24, like the current FCS model. HUGE obstacle is imbalance of schedules, fact SEC refuses to play more than 8 "conference" schools, then whines when Big 10 who plays 9, has more teams in the playoffs. Strength of Schedule needs to be completely wiped off any formula for seeding. Everyone plays 12 games amongst the power 4 leagues/divisions. Set it up just like NFL does, with quadrants perhaps or pools to win that gets into the seeds, etc. Folks, this is pro football now, can't act like its the Reggie Bush era Yes, if you see above Love the idea of reseeding no matter how many teams are in the playoffs, 12, 16, 24 etc BTW: FCS championship game is tonight

  6. maybe the group of people should take an introspective look at why exactly they all feel the need to jump the same guy in every thread, who has attempted to steer conversation back to topic multiple times. didn't read whatever the message in question of bobrefs was, don't think hes a racist, don't particularly care that temp called him one.

  8. How many of that 19K you think came from when it was spammed with explicit content? I didn't have many issues with DT he was a pretty good dart thrower! There were a couple of issues through the years I had with him. He definitely was under the impression the GID would be nowhere without him, yet it is still standing.

  10. Just an intermediate step in the evolution to college players as salaried employees of the institution.

  11. I've watched some of the FCS playoffs and I've been impressed with Montana State. I'll probably watch at least some of that game tonight.

  12. perhaps if you had read the entire dialogue, you'd have better perspective to go with your opinion. Just hope the mantra on GID doesn't become one that allows people start crap in the first place by alleging ridiculous accusations, even go as far as lie about others, and then when it gets hot, just try and steer the conversation back to the topic....and get credit for doing so.

  13. Can his cousin leave OSU after his freshman year?

  14. Great question...but seems there are other cultural challenges with the team, if one prescribes to McAfee's view. This is the Colts defensive captain's antics following their "impressive" win over a 4 win team in OT. Makes me question the overall leadership and maturity of this team. https://www.outkick.com/sports/zaire-franklin-pat-mcafee-suite-video

  15. Ballard, early on in this years as GM, chose Perris Campbell instead of Terry McLaurin. It was a huge mistake, not because McLaurin was a Indy native, because he was vastly more talented than Campbell. Yesterday, Terry McLaurin caught his 13th TD pass of the season, setting a Washington franchise record. Of course I like Terry because I know him, and his dad, from his time at Cathedral, but that's just a side issue. Ballard has gone on to make many other blunders, and some really great moves, such as choosing Jonathon Taylor, but overall the team has suffered since Andrew Luck's late decision to retire, 3 weeks before the season began, and the team just tried for year's to plug in old and inferior replacements. Then the Anthony Richardson pick, someone with just one year of experience as a college QB. That choice is still up in the air, mostly because AR, with all his size, seems to be very fragile. It's just time for Ballard to be replaced by someone with a different view. It's been enough time for Ballard to improve this team. It really hasn't happened.

  16. ESPN 1000 this morning said Bears are interviewing Mike Vrabel this week, got permission to interview Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn as well as Thomas Brown next week along with Anthony Weaver. That’s just what I heard on the way in, out of those names Ben Johnson and Mike Vrabel are the ones that excite me the most but got to think they go with an offensive guy that will benefit Caleb in the long run. Nagy and Aaron Glenn being mentioned in New Orleans. Can’t believe someone wants another go round with club dub.

  17. Some may see it senseless fighting....it beyond ticks me off when a fellow long time respected member is singled out for racist comments by another that is far from being "free of sin". The same individual alleges multiple cases of racist comments with is just pure bunk. Its a pattern that I hope we all take offense to when labels are placed on people that are both undeserving and coming from an individual that has issues of his own. I'd done....but I will darn sure stand up for an attack on good man.

  18. You started this entire mess by calling another out for racism. You stated his comment "was even low for him". If you are going to claim repeated cases of racist comments by another forum member, back up your claim. I've been a member of GID for years, much longer than you....I have NEVER seen the individual you are accusing with a history of any racial comments. I think you are flat out embellishing or even lying in an attempt to justify your ridiculous claim. You stirred the pot by calling someone out for racism, (when you could have privately shared your concern) you've made repeated comments about wives, and just recently made a joke about Bob and I in a relationship. You absolutely stir crap. You have a history of starting crap, then retreating into a victim state when you are called out. You are no victim, you are not the spokesperson for morality, and you are certainly not innocent. We have to endure your "tactics" when discussing sports topics....but we shouldn't have to put up with baseless accusations smearing a member of this forum that is well respected.

  19. this aint really what I do here. offseason sucks but there has to be something funny or interesting we can argue about rather than just senseless fighting right

  20. Going round and round on sports topics is one thing. Senseless drivel and accusations end up nowhere. When do I get my booster status updated?

  22. I read on Twitter today, that some Colts fans brought in signs that said "Fire Ballard". They were promptly removed from the stadium. Colts ownership and leadership simply does not get it.............

  24. There is typically a ripple effect, but any more it hinges on what teaching openings a school will have. Those start popping up in larger numbers in February.

  26. Never believe anything you read from coaches or the media when talking about rules. This was NEVER about 11 on and 11 off. If that's what Coach Smart thought was the issue in 2017, he is completely wrong. The actual issue is players leaving the field and returning during the same dead ball period or substitutes entering and then leaving during the same dead ball period. This is one of those things that's a foul in both NFHS and NCAA rules, but in most cases, it's hard to keep track of which players and leave and enter on each dead ball. It's much more obvious in a situation like this. It's still rarely called though, especially now with the substitution match-up rule in NCAA. I've learned this week the B1G/MAC supervisors have told their crews not to call it in a situation like this, but the SEC. In that regards, Coach Smart was correct in his statements. He's the co-chair of the NCAA rules committee so he should know it better than he does, but this is something that comes up rarely. This very specific play though was not an issue with this rule however. The reason is because there was an officials time out for replay review. That means anyone that enters the field after the review can become replaced players. There was a review so that's why the crew would not have a flag here even if they were enforcing the rule as written. That's an example of subtlety I wouldn't expect a coach to know. When situations like this happen, it's likely to be a point of discussion with the rules committee. If nothing else they need to get the conferences on the same page. I wouldn't be surprised to see the NCAA drop the rule entirely since the substitution match-up rule make it obsolete. If Notre Dame had done it too late in the play clock and the play clock expired while Georgia was matching up, that would be a delay of game foul on the offense. You'll notice the U stayed on the snapper telling him he couldn't legally snap it, but backed away with plenty of time left on the play clock.

  27. Jimmy Carter dead at 100: https://apnews.com/article/jimmy-carter-dead-latest-66b988ca038d9d8e738a5984ed96c076 Truly an American Icon, possibly more famous for his charitable works like Habitat for Humanity than for his Presidency. He will be missed.

  28. McMarthy would be better than last 4 guys they hired, just sayin, Vrabel is being tied with Tommy Rees as OC in New England according to my source in Boston who follows along quite a bit Kaftka would be personally GREAT for me, a very good friend is very friendly with Coach Kaftka....oh yeah.....that would be clutch, oh that reminds me, @temptation, you be a good boy in 2025, I know the DL coach who just finished year 1 in Michigan this past year, former SJC HC, I maybe able to get you a few blades of grass from THE BIG HOUSE for your collection of Wolverine swag. 🙂 I still trust Poles, I understand the magnitude of each move in the NFL especially the Chicago Bears market, I am far more patient then others on this, I believe he is the right guy, but moreso, I BELIEVE that NON STOP CHANGE is very unhealthy that is why I envy the Rooney's and Pittsburgh Organization, my #2 in my heart of the NFL.
