Yes and no. I apologize ahead of time for the lengthy response but this is a hill I am willing to die on. That thought process is contributing to the mass exodus in our profession right now. I don't speak for every coach but I can tell you the job of a high school coach isn't an easy one. I love football and truly believe it is the greatest game there is. It saved my life and I have seen it save many more. That is what drew me to this vocation; the opportunity to have an impact on young people and make the world a better place. Coaches give a lot and will continue to give of themselves but I think the public at large is failing to reciprocate. Rather, we continue to add more and more to the plate of our coaches. Coaches wear many hats: teacher, coach, advocate, counselor, administrator, nutritionist, recruiting coordinator, social media promoter, and etc. AND we answer to everyone...our assistant coaches, administration, school board, teachers, players, parents, media, personal trainers, college coaches, and etc. Many people demand our time and that comes with the territory. If our players are going to be successful and get where they want to be then we have to find that time to give. I have answered those emails for DT before and for many other social media sites because I appreciate anyone that is taking the time to promote our kids. To be honest I don't respond enough to them and I need to be better. I have met with over 30 college coaches this off season promoting our players. This includes driving players on 3 visits and attending a recruiting clinic. I will be driving players to college spring ball practices in the coming months and hosting a college day on our campus in May. I have prepared a recruitment sheet for all 18 players that expressed interest in playing ball in college. I will do everything in my power to get a player to the next level. To give you a view of a typical week for a coach here are the duties I performed in the last 7 days. This does not include any family or grad school duties. ran weights before and after school. At the school building from 6am-6pm. taught school - my day job that pays the bills and has it's own set of standards and expectations offensive staff meeting Tuesday - If you have coached before you know those meetings are never short attended 2 athletic events to support our athletes visited 3 elementary schools for our reading program visited a middle school to pass out spring and summer schedules during their lunch periods promoted accomplishments by our football and weight programs on multiple social media sites attended a football clinic in Cincy on last Friday - was only able to stay for 4 hours due to an obligation at home but wanted to meet the new Valpo coach in person and see the Pitt DL coach who was incredible! 2 media interviews concerning new transfer rule and another media interview concerning concussions I tell you all of that to tell you that I am consistently told via social media that I am not doing enough to promote my players. Some of my players are being told, outside forces and handlers who stand to make a profit off of them, that I am also not doing enough to promote them. Maintaining a "we" over "me" culture is beginning to feel insurmountable at times which I believe is due to landscape of college football and now the landscape of Indiana high school football where we just opened the floodgates to allow more bad actors into the recruiting arena. We face constant scrutiny and negativity, even when we are winning. In the end you are what you put your time to. At some point every coach has to decide what that will be. I am a husband and a father of 4 boys. I am in grad school to prepare for a life after football to ensure my family can be provided for. My wife is a teacher and a coach. My kids play youth sports and I coach them when I can be there. My 8 year old is going through 1st communion preparation right now. My 5 year old is pumped to learn to ride his bike when it gets warm. My 4 year old starts baseball this spring. I still have one in diapers who will be diving into potty training soon. A lot of positive things. Things I hope each one of my players and students get to experience some day because a life full of love is the greatest gift we can receive. Please do not read this as a complaint as I wake up every day with gratitude for the blessing of being an educator and coach; I am truly blessed. I have always felt personal stories have power and I thought sharing mine here could create some empathy for my peers. I will keep fighting the good fight for as long as I can...but some day I will get tired and will have to make that decision on whether fighting the negativity is still worth my time as well. In the end I guess my point is...where would you put responding to an email for social media gratification on your list if you were me? I appreciate you all and everything you give to the game of football, even if it only opinions. There are some great people on this site and this site does matter. You are a part of the Indiana Football Community and our community is better for having you in it. God Bless

DT has always been a captalist in his mindset when it comes to GID and now facebook, he wanted to make this a paid site, he has made offers, has been refuted and went the route of facebook, more power to him, no stress from this seat, his model is not the model we believe in here, thats okay too, The reason he is using the GID name is to attract noise to gues what, bring in more traffic, more traffic, more pennies he makes, its not that hard of a concept. Wish him the best, no ill will from me, just not our style of what he wanted from this site, so it goes. I have had many coaches also reach out to me with negative view points on his surveys and how he goes after coaches on facebook even on the "hot seat". you know guys who are getting paid $7k-$12k type stipends because in HS football that is something that should be bantered about. Here's the backstory ... he has spent years trying to take this site over, even when TA was running things. He was jealous of all the attention TA got and how big of a deal the GID was and wanted to use the GID to improve his personal brand, all while telling us we were doing it wrong. When TA passed away, he swooped in - several times - to try to make himself the "editor" of this site (even calling himself that), while posting a bunch of false rumors and "topics" that were not good for HSFB, such as his long drumbeat for "contraction." During one of the times he was claiming to be the site "editor," he began spamming head coaches, using our name, and writing them almost daily demanding they respond to his questionnaires. He couldn't help himself. He's tried to create multiple alternate sites, but none of them have worked. After his last ban here, he tried to get involved with another statewide site, but they quickly got rid of him because he told them they were covering the wrong schools (basically, he told them in very crass terms they needed to stop covering urban schools so much). That's why he puts "Gridiron" in everything - he has badly wanted to "replace" the GID since he can't take this place over.

WOW! Just read his tirade yesterday about everything his Facebook page offers. If this place is such a dumpster fire why does he continually steal topics and discussion material from here? His Facebook page is a lot like his content was here....it has "some" excellent stuff with psychotic ramblings and off-the-wall positions sprinkled in.

Sounds like a mean-spirited dig because the coach turned down a request for an interview. The issues that Frankfort has aren't at all tied to a "social media savvy coach" and for that to be insinuated is just plain silly ... and kind of points to the intent behind that post.

At the beginning of this past season, he took posts from here about practically every conference preview and pasted them on his page without giving credit. He did start giving credit later and even posted links to the topics. He made a huge stink after his last departure because users were posting his content here. He sent DK a message threatening legal action if that content was not taken down. It was taken down, but then he did the exact same thing, but somehow that was ok? I have never viewed him as competition in any way. Are you promoting the game and the kids playing it? Yeah, awesome; keep promoting. You will never see any of us go so far as to say this is the premier site, ignore his page.....never.

You can promote your players without responding to Tim's questionnaires. There's local and regional media and established people like the Indiana Football Digest, which all a much wider reach, and puts out a professional product that supports high school football without criticizing and badmouthing coaches and programs. I'd venture most coaches don't respond to Tim's questionnaires. The program I work most closely with completely ignores him and is one of the most widely-covered and promoted programs in the state.

That type of post has been common. If you don't do an interview (The reality is the "interview" is a questionnaire sent in a mass email to head coaches @Coach Nowlin can back that up as well) with dt, then it equates to you not wanting to promote your program like you should.

Bet this system is calibrated to the KC Chiefs benefit...... 😉

I'm not saying DT is perfect, as pointed out by @Irishman, just saying the guy has good content and promotes the greatest game in America at the greatest level.

Fort Wayne would finally get a much needed interstate moving west out of the city toward Chicago. Wouldn't have to worry about Indianapolis sapping more than their fair share of state funding for a change. Just sayin.

Good luck to Coach Coffer. NC is a very difficult job ... you're a 6A school with some talent in the halls playing in one of the toughest conferences in the state, where a lot of the talent in Washington Township is playing for Brebeuf, Chatard, Heritage Christian and Cathedral ... all of which are located in or just across the line from the district. Finding a way to build a program and keep some of that talent "home" at NC has been a challenge for coaches for the last 30 years, since Derrick Mayes and Eric Allen graduated.

More than likely, yes. The opinion stated in the screenshot is based on a coach choosing to not do just one interview. That does not equate to a coach not wanting to promote his program. There are plenty of other things to do promote a program.

I would bet every dollar/ asset I own that he and his HPG recruiting portal have helped ZERO student-athletes become recruited/ recruit-able. Probably the part of his recent posts I personally dislike the most. Even the worst of the worst HS football coaches can connect student-athletes to "small college football coaches." Hell, some of the GOOD coaches who struggle at getting their guys recruited can STILL get kids connected to small colleges/ coaches, and do. I agree with many others that said he does supply SOME quality content, but there is A LOT of cringe worthy behavior and content posted on that specific site.

I had 2 bouts with him back in December and earlier this week calling him on his lack of professionalism and integrity. I do think that it is awesome that he does the interviews and give him credit where it is due. The problem is he says that he says he helps athletes with the recruiting process, but doesn't show it. He spouts his mouth off in an attempt to be like Stephen A. Smith and tells people to pull their heads out of the horse's a** when he doesn't like an opinion that is opposite of his. And let's be crystal clear he does this about once a month where he tries to get his monthly interactions all in one night because he thrives on attention. Pretty narcissistic in my eyes. In my eyes, I would steer athletes away from him because he "saves professionalism for those who deserve it." Those are his exact words he told me before he blocked me from the page a couple of nights ago.

You should probably not try mind reading on this site Mr. Newby, it's not working out very well for you so far. Good luck in the future at interpreting words better. And please consider becoming a Booster here at the GID. It eliminates all those annoying pop up ads and it's to keep the site functioning from a technical standpoint. We don't have the vast resources of Facebook to pay the bills for us here. The idea that this site and his Facebook page are “competition” is weird to me. How is talking about high school football “competition”? The way I see it, come here if you like it better. If you like his stuff better, go there. If you like both, then you’re free to go back and forth. But whatever you do, remember it’s about the kids and the game we love. That should be the focus.

I've always enjoyed reading his content, but I understand and respect your position with him. The meek shall inherit the earth. Always best to take the high road.
