  1. Let me just preface this by saying this is meant to be a fun, imaginative idea. Before anyone spouts off about how the money could be better spent on real world things, get it in your heads that not everything has to be so serious. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming… If I had Elon Musk’s money, I think it would be cool to have a TRUE Indiana high school sports network. I’d split the state up into nine regions (see pic below of a rough idea on what that could look like). I’d get a digital tv channel and have sub-channels to go along with it. Those of you with antennas know what I’m talking about. For example, 50.1 would be for northwest Indiana. 50.2 would be for north-central Indiana. 50.3 would be for northeast Indiana. And so on. Each region would have their own broadcast teams and would air a game of the week each Friday night during the football season. If two teams from different regions played each other then the regional channel of the home team would broadcast it. Other weeknights or Saturday mornings/afternoons/nights during the fall would broadcast boys/girls soccer or girls volleyball. In the winter, six days worth of boys/girls basketball would be broadcast. In the spring, six days of baseball, softball, or boys volleyball would be broadcast. On Sundays, each region’s channel would have a studio show with a panel containing a host and analysts (media member from the region and a former player and/or coach) discussing their sport of expertise. For example, in the fall you’d have an hour-long block of football, an hour-long block of girls volleyball, an hour-long block of boys soccer, and an hour long block of girls soccer. To fill the rest of the time throughout the week, I’d air the following: 1. Pre-taped interviews with coaches and players. 2. If enough independent footage existed, highlights of games from the day or from the previous night. 3. A ticker showing all scores from the day or the previous night. Upcoming games for the night or the next day would also be shown. And to top it all off, each region would have their own website dedicated to high school sports coverage of their whole region. This would also include the other IHSAA sports like tennis, golf, cross country, track & field, wrestling, gymnastics, and swimming. If you’re still reading at this point, what other ideas would you have to expand upon this? Or if you had Elon’s money, would you spend it a completely different way to promote/support Indiana high school sports?

  2. I would immediately triple the game fees for all athletic officials at the high school level and below. And I’d give the IHSAA enough money to hire a new assistant commissioner whose only job was to oversee officiating, and give him or her enough of a budget to do the job right.

  3. Jennings County wins 41-20. Not sure what Burton said to them at the half but they outscored Madison 41-7 in the second half. A completely different team.

  4. Yes Center Grove has always had money and resources well before Coach Moore. The 2 largest impact things that Coach Moore brought to Center Grove (aside form running the Wing T) 1.) Speed Development - This was a must when competing with the likes of Ben Davis and Warren Central on a regular basis joining the MIC. He had also become the HC of Track to develop speed. It now is very common for CG to be amongst the top in speed and that started with Moore. 2.) The Youth League - CG Bantham football is what many want to emulate, he put a lot of time an interest in the youth league and when it comes to the Wing T by the time the kids are in HS they could probably run Coach Moore's system in their sleep it has been etched into them from a young age.

  5. Not automatically no, but a lot of the time it's implied, especially if it's two evenly matched teams.

  7. For all teams in the state, I'd match their gates and concessions for the regular season as a donation to their schools. Maybe it'd be a way to get communities to increase folks coming to the games. Increased gates and concessions would help football, not to mention butts in seats, and the added matching could go to schools to help them in non-sports areas too. For every school, I'd upgrade their sports facilities/equipment, with a realization that an endowed maintenance fund would also need to be established for upkeep, and also put an equal amount into non-sports activities for the schools. Additional stipends to round out coaching staffs for schools that were limited, plus equal matching for academic area personnel for the schools too.

  8. Not 100% sure who RP had all summer, but a subscription to the Lafayette Courier Journal would have told you exactly who FC scrimmaged. I think they posted an article on every scrimmage they had like it was the Super Bowl of the greater Lafayette area. Hard Knocks WRC - Meet the Mustangs

  9. Okay. The Bull Dogs are no longer an enigma to me. The loss of a lot of talent from last season is really showing now after getting thrashed by Carmel, and they seem to have a passing game but not much else. They certainly miss Gino Prescott.

  16. Exactly. I had zero interest in listening to Flus' pressers. Just vanilla answers that never really go the point or gave you an idea of how Trus was handling the situation. Johnson is a breath of fresh air. I look forward to watching this team improve throughout the year. I do wonder who he was calling out on offense for they way they play when the play isn't going their way. My money would be on Moore.

  18. I would have a dome or covered stadium built for every single high school football team in the state. I would give them the option on whether they wanted natural or artificial turf on the inside, and let someone smarter than me figure out how that would all work. I would then pay for any maintenance needed going forward on every teams indoor facility. With the money I had left over I would pay @Donnie Baker mom, Phylis, back for all the sticky ones he has stolen from her over the years to pay for his GID booster membership, his nudie magazines, and any other thing that Mr. Baker himself would only ever buy that most other people would probably never think of purchasing.

  20. If you are a spread team or looking to see what your defense can do against the spread, summer scrimmages are great. When you are foot to foot, double tight, double wing, summer scrimmages don't really give you much to go off of. Quick whistle for a pile of bodies that you can't even tell what is happening in the middle of it. Like stated above, it's great for some things, but until you strap them up and go at it under the lights, you never are going to truly know what you have.

  22. Agreed on all fronts. I’m sure they’ll try to combine SW and NF again soon. If/when that happens, it would help football. Big Coach T at Northwestern has a solid young core. Would love to see Cass get back to their 2000s days. Seagraves, Bowser, Mannerings, O’Brien were some TOUGH squads

  23. Ev. Memorial would have free tuition and an incredible football stadium on campus. It actually wouldn't even take Elon-type money.

  24. Agree. I have a relative that works for a real estate closing company that primarily deals with that area. She told me several years ago that area west of Plainfield was the next to boom.

  25. Well... you'd hope. Good crews, sure, that's definitely the case. I can see that, maybe, there would be an issue locating if a ball is trapped or not if you were to move him. But, imo, the positives would still outweigh the negatives. I was -19

  26. Broadcast licenses don't work like that. You'd have to find open channels in each area and apply for licenses in those spaces. Channel 50, for example, would only service one area. You couldn't split up the digital channels to show in different areas of the state. So, for example, Channel 13 in Indianapolis has digital channels, but they only show in channel 13's footprint. With the internet and the amount of people doing podcasts and things, the cost of equipment, etc., you really wouldn't need Elon's money to do this sort of thing any more.

  29. Guess in your definition "giving a team all they can handle" means playing 3 quarters of a game. OK...I read you. Hardest hitting D ever that gave up 500+ total yds. (300+ rushing) That's certainly a ribbon to be worn. Look, lots of respect for the Carroll program. But you've embellished and left out key facts of the game. But, sometimes homers do that. I understand. Go back and look at enrollments when CG won a number of their largest class state titles and tell me what you see. Regardless of today's enrollment, CG and Westfield are 16 and 18 respectively. Carroll and Homestead are not that far behind them. I think coaches can and already have done excellent things with programs those size.

  33. Rochester 42-13 Manchester 28-14 Northwestern 33-12 Mac 57-whatever Mac wants the Peru score to be Wabash 21-20 TRC sure has been in a steady decline from 80s-2000s. About 30 years in there where 4-5 teams played some really good football on any given year and several deep postseason runs/state titles. Downturn started with the Oak Hill/Wabash flip in the fall of 06.

  34. Such an incredibly hard position to play at the highest level along with the unreasonable expectations put on these players so early as well. So many are so quick to annoit QBs busts or chosen ones....... takes so much to be successful at that position and many of those items have zero to do with QB themselves

  35. I was a fan of Jones in college, and before anyone knew the name of Jordan Love, I felt like Jones would be a great fit for the offense Green Bay has. He has Rodgers' ability to move around the pocket and Favre level arm strength when throwing. I am happy for him to see him doing well to start here and think the confidence he is gaining will only make him better.
