  1. Salem schools just posted their upcoming school board agenda. Roger Pennington is on the agenda to be approved as the Head Football Coach. I thought he did well being thrown into the fire last summer. Very good hometown hire!

  3. Not much in the way of rules changes this year. Really, only 2: Prohibition on Slapping the Head (Rule 9-4-7): The rule prohibiting players from slapping an opponent's head now applies to all players (both offense and defense). Previously, this rule specifically restricted defensive players from slapping a blocker's head. Play Cards on Belts: Players, including quarterbacks, are now permitted to wear play-calling cards on their belts, in addition to the previously approved wrist or arm locations. One Point of Emphasis of note: Helping the runner. The “anti-Tush push.” We are awaiting guidance on just how they want this called. The actual language of the POE is not available yet.

  5. " Effective in 2026, tooth and mouth protectors a) shall not include any attachment(s) that do not serve a purpose and function in protecting the teeth or mouth, and b) shall not include anything that is a health or risk issue and could pose danger to themselves or other players." Does this mean those second dangling mouthpieces are illegal, or is this referring to something different?

  6. https://reason.com/2026/02/05/mike-johnson-wants-to-spare-ice-the-hassle-of-getting-the-right-warrant-before-forcibly-entering-a-home/ Which brings us back to Johnson, who whined, "imagine if we had to go through the process of getting a judicial warrant." But if an ICE agent has the time to obtain a piece of paper signed by a superior in the executive branch before heading out to bust down somebody's front door, then that agent also has the time to obtain a real warrant signed by an actual judge. As the Supreme Court instructed in Lange, "when the officer has time to get a warrant, he must do so." The "sanctity of the home" demands it under our Constitution. Disgusting.

  7. I'm cheering for the Seahawks just because they aren't the Patriots. My wife and I used to play Choctaw Bingo every Friday night.

  8. Seems like common sense and completely agree. Unless the kid's carrying the ball on every offensive play, he should be blocking any time he's not touching the ball. Your QB will appreciate it as well as the back who is carrying the ball and even some of your linemen.

  9. I have seen several clips that could back this up at the youth level...You have parents that want to still be players, running around and barking..both mom and dad's.. from an outsiders view, they look like idiots and I wonder who in the world would allow their kids to be coached by these type of adults...Mostly travel teams that want to pound their chest and say we have a ring from this tournament that we paid to play in..i stopped arguing with a co worker who swore his travel team was top ten in the country, no matter how many losses they took..i realized not to argue with a fool, from a distance people can't tell who is who..

  10. I agree - you don't literally have to be in education, but you need to have the mindset to grow kids beyond sports - teamwork, dedication, hard work, fun. We've been trending toward "me me me" mindsets in athletics and in my opinion - it is dangerous. The "educator mindset" as a coach is a desirable trait.

  15. I think you took my original post about the schedule as a criticism, which was not my intention. I clapped back a little bit when I read your reply, and finished my follow up with the comment about spelling it out to solve the puzzle as a Wheel of Fortune joke. It obviously did not land, so that’s my bad. It’s the offseason. Coaching changes, schedules for next season, rule changes, and player recognition are common topics of discussion during this time of the year. It also isn’t unique to Rensselaer. There are other ongoing topics on this forum related to schedules (SAC non-conference games). This thread just focused on Rensselaer’s schedule because of the original message about the Bombers leaving the Hoosier Conference.
