  3. In case you don’t know it, and probably don’t, I was able to retire and travel across the fine land of ours. I came across many interesting high school nicknames from far and wide: River Forest (IN) Ingots, Bloom Township (IL) Blazing Trojans, Rhinelander (WI) Hodags, Kingsford (MI) Flivvers, Austin Westlake (TX) Chapparals, Aspen (CO) Skiers, and yes the San Dimas (CA) Dons. More importantly, I found some great golf courses…

  4. I'll help organize a TGD Poll this season, if someone else commits to helping and we get 8-10 voters per class. Alternatively, we could do a 1-3A poll and a 4A-6A poll to keep things manageable. If you are committed to voting every week, sound off. We need fans, coaches, media, officials, former players, etc... from around the state. Voting is anonymous (only the other pollsters see the way you vote). It's previously been done in a Google Sheet and that's probably how it would be done this year. No preseason poll obviously, we would start next week with all votes in by Sunday or Monday night. Who is interested?

  5. Hmmhh.. BC was 2 yards away from making it 28-0 at the half. I missed when Corydon threatened to score... at all? No kidding this isn't BCs team from last year lol... "be ready for a quick exit in the tourney this year" name names.. who's that team that sends BC packing early? Here's the sectional-- Providence, Mitchell, Pekin, Salem, Brown Co, Switz Co, Clarksville.. Replacing 17 starters from our best team ever? And 4 rotational guys out right now from injury, rotating in 5 SOs, week 1 on the road, vs a senior laden Corydon team.. being up 35-0 with 16 mins to go in the game... yes, all things considered. It wasn't an onside kick to start the half.. its a squib kick.. Conyer is just really good at that. Did it in the semi state last year, too.

  18. Pretty sure this is the first opening night since I was probably in 2nd-3rd grade, I had older brothers playing, 53-54 years, that I haven’t been at a Football game. And believe it or not, I’m looking forward to sitting on my fat ass listening on the radio. Hey man sitting on the back deck with a bottle of Makers and a nice cigar ain’t all bad either.

  20. Although I’m trying hard to keep this non-political, this next one proves I can’t: the Effingham (IL) Flaming Hearts. Being they are located in that heavily taxed state, Bleeding Hearts would be more appropriate. Business as usual for the Freeburg Pretzels, Lake Forest Scouts, and Schaumburg Saxons…

  21. My cousins went to Chatard. Grandfather went to Cathedral. I'm not Catholic, but if we would've stayed in Carmel (moved to Santa Claus when I was four), I might have gone to Cathedral or Chatard. Dad went to Emmerich Manuel, Mom went to North Central (with Babyface).

  26. Well I was planning on going to the East at Mooresville game with a buddy tonight but he had to back out because he and his family are moving tomorrow. I’m unable to drive right now due to an injury so I’m going to have to wait until next week to attend my first game of the 2026 season. Looks like I’ll be listening on the radio and following along on social media for scores of the other games.

  30. Well, that stinks for Hoosier fans. I feel bad for them, as injuries their senior years cost them NFL opportunities. Was hoping for them, they would shine and get another shot. Guess we shall see what the future holds.

  35. This topic blows my mind. Can't make an NFL roster as a UFA? Then go BACK to college? Sure, it you're working on and advanced degree or just trying to finish out your Bachelor's. But, to play football again? What a joke.

  36. Knox @ North Judson- NJ looking for revenge after last year's loss to the county rival. I look for a lot of scoring early but the Jays to settle in on D and get some stops. Jays 38 - 22. South Central @ Wheeler- Wheeler has some great skilled players. Looks like they may have a strong air attack this season. SC starting a young team this year. Wheeler 56 - 6. LaVille @Triton- Close one here. I look for Laville to sneak out a W against their rival. Anxious to see how the new coach settles in. Laville 24-20. Central Noble @ Culver - CN looks to have a bounce back year and Culver still chasing some consistency in their play. CN 30 - 20. Caston @ Whitko - Caston has the potential to compete this season in their conference. They will be a hard-hitting team and I think they pull off a convincing win tonight. Caston 40 - 13. West Central @ Winamac- Will Winamac bounce back after the big loss to county rival WC last season? Not likely as WC returned a big portion of the team. WC 40 - 20. Northfield @ North Miami - NM graduated some solid talent but seem to be figuring something out. Curious to see how their younger guys step up. NM 22 - 14. Pioneer @ Lewis Cass - This is the most intriguing matchup as Pioneer lost a lot of their production from last season, but then again, it's Pioneer. They will be ready to roll heading into this season and looking for a chance to head back down south. Lewis Cass brings back a lot of talent with the exception of their +2000 yard back. Coming off a strong 8-4 record and ready for revenge after the 0-28 loss to Pioneer last season. Hard to pick against the panthers, give me Pioneer 28-22.

  37. Not surprised, a few years ago a neurologist here in Fort Wayne told me that High school football is slowly going away. He stated that concussion are the biggest threat. I know Dwenger's numbers are down. Mostly because several want to focus on Rugby. They play 8 man out in the western parts of the country. Honestly i have gotten board at games, the game has changed. With Lacrosse getting popular i wonder if that will replace football in 10 to 15 years. Hope not. Schoolsports gear Educationalresources

  40. Alight Alright Alright Now. The squirrel has been more patient this week stuffing nuts into my mouth and seeing what nutballs of predictions I would Make. First off I'm glad to be back I love the WRC but THERE SOME NUTTY CONCLSUIONS ALREADY being made. We will talk more about it. Attica at Faith Christians- I like Coach Dean and the Ramblers in this game and with ease too I might add we will see what the tape and box score says following the game Carroll at Seegers- I don't know much about seeger but know carroll is a good program with good athletes, seeger has homefield so it might be close given Carroll by a score. Covington at Tri County- Give the Torjans on the road by a couple scores Crawfordsville at Parke Heritage- Cville is physical and they get off the ball I like the woofs this year but it won't matter this week it will be closer this year but I like the Athenians by 2 scores. North Central at North Vermillions- I think both teams will struggle this year but I'll give the nod to NC after the win last year. Interesting to see how NV will be this year Riverton Parke - Linton at Rose Hulmans- ALRIGHT LISTEN UP YOU NUTBALLS. I think this game will be a great game. I'm not gonna take the Miners to blow out the Panthers. FOr two reasons 1. Linton is down this year talent wise and RP might be going through the greatest run of athletes to go through their school. 2. Will be physical and a fast game families might get home before the engineers and their nerds start coming up for move in. I think this game will be 1-2 scores but in my opinion the Miner coaching staff will be the main difference and no offense to Sanders and his crew who I do think are a good coaching staff but staff to staff there is no comparison give me the Miners in a physical close game. I would say 34-23 Southmont at Fountain Centrals- Tough opener for the Earls give me the Mounties by a couple scores West Vigo at South Vermillions- What a return for the Crabtrees and the Vikes to Clinton. SV will be ready to play and extremely motivated after the week their program has had. West Vigo will be ready to kick off the Crabtree era and will be ready to play. I like the Wildcats to win by 2 Scores. I think the difference will be some athletes on the back end for the Wildcats. Those are the picks. Again I like to swallow Nuts but I am not NUTS!!
